007. those who are growing up.

"[NAME]!" takeru yelled out, hopping off his porch to run up to the young woman who stood in the alleyway street with her little brother, waiting for her neighbor and his uncle to approach so that they could head off together, "you're walking with oikawa and i?"

[name] stared in surprise, but then smiled to the young boy, "well, i thought today i was taking you to practice, i guess tadame forgot to tell me oikawa was taking you!"

oikawa's eyes widened when he walked out of his sister's home, eyes landing on the [hair color] haired neighbor who was innocently standing with takeru and facing the house, watching as he shut the door behind him slowly. he felt his heart speed up with every step towards her he took, the immense heat making his anxious sweating much more worse.

"morning, oikawa!" [name] greeted happily, clapping her hands together with the usual grin that had made the coach blush madly.

oikawa grew red, hoping the summer weather would be a good enough excuse as to why he was not only becoming brighter than a tomato- but was sweating as if he ran the longest marathon ever created. his hand fell to his forehead, wiping away the drops that formed, "morning."

the two turned, walking down the alleyway as [name]'s brother and oikawa's nephew ran down, stopping at the end of the alleyway and engaging in their own little conversation as they waited for their relatives to walk down to meet with them.

the two adults walked in temporary silence, oikawa with his hands stuffed in his pockets and [name] holding takeru's small gym bag over her shoulder.

"so," [name] began, humming softly as she thought of some sort of conversation starter. usually, the two of them only really spoke at practices and their exchanges came naturally- now she had to actually come up with something. "this is our last summer as teenagers, are you nervous?"

the brown haired male looked over, eyes widening once he saw that she was already staring. "i-uh-i guess? i dunno, i don't really dwell too much on those thoughts," he admitted with a hesitated shrug.

the [eye color] teen's eyebrows furrowed slightly. the thought of him not panicking at the idea of being an adult absolutely shocked her. she was more than panicking, she was freaking out- losing her marbles. the idea of college was something that haunted her for four years and yet, oikawa didn't seem to care at all.

"how about you?" he suddenly asked, making her head snap up with wide eyes. he realized that he needed to explain his question, "are you nervous?"

she let out an embarrassed giggle before nodding firmly. "i'm more than nervous, i'm stressing," she spoke out truthfully, her hand moving to rake back her [hair color] locks that stuck to her sweaty forehead, "just the idea of actually having to be- act like an adult scares me."

oikawa laughed at her response, "really? i would've assumed you to be prepared."

she frantically shook her head at his assumption, putting her arms in an 'x' and swiping it away from each other dramatically.

the two laughed until they reached the two young boys, [name] sighing out, "what made you think i was prepared?"

the group turned the corner, takeru and taru running ahead on the pavement away from their caretakers until they were a decent distance to continue walking.

oikawa's thoughts were circling around the question she had asked. he hadn't really thought his response out when he told her that he believed she was prepared. it was just something he assumed, something that had popped into his head.

"well," he begun, his hand moving to the back of his slightly sticky neck, "you just seem very responsible, especially with how you act with the kids at practice," he explained slightly awkward. he cursed at himself at the lame response he dared to say, continuing to walk down the pavement with her by his side.

[name] shook her head, about to deny his assumption again until her phone beeped, making her dig into her pocket and pull it out. her face grew red at the message she had received from her boyfriend.

oikawa already knew who it was, he could tell by her face, the smile she only held when thinking of him, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear. he knew she was in love and he knew he stood no chance.
"is that semi?" he asked suddenly, surprising himself that he had even managed to speak.

"yeah," she gushed, pushing her phone back into her pocket, "he wants to hang out with taru and i after practice."

oikawa let out an 'oh', shifting awkwardly as they stopped at a green light, waiting for the cars to pass.

the light turned red and they crossed, holding the younger boys' hands as they walked before letting go at the other side.

"how long have you two been together for?" oikawa managed to let out lowly, hoping slightly that she hadn't heard the dumb question. he knew no matter her answer- he would only feel worse about his feelings.

"two years?" she questioned to herself before lifting up her fingers and counting, "yep, two years! we met at our grandparents' game night during the weekend and we got along really well," she explained, smiling at the memory of them two meeting, "i just wish i went to school here so i could've attended his games."

oikawa lifted a brow. she didn't go to his games?

"why didn't you drive to them?"

"my grandma didn't like driving too far, but semi didn't mind, he made sure to send me videos!"

oikawa didn't know if he should've felt bad for the ash blonde. it was sad that his girlfriend couldn't even see him in action. oikawa wanted to tell her that it was sad she couldn't attend, but the girl only interrupted his thoughts once she pointed at the convenience store only two buildings next to the gymnasium they were approaching.

"c'mon, let's get popsicles to eat while the kids eat their watermelon!"
