001. those who fall.
⸻ THERE WERE MANY THINGS IN LIFE OIKAWA TOORU WOULD NEVER ADMIT, one of them being that he was falling. falling for the random teenage graduate he had seen everyday since the first day of summer, when she had returned home to her family after studying abroad.
he would never admit that once he graduated, the sudden disappearance of adoring fans and enamored girls chasing after him, had showed him the ability that one female face could hold over him. the ability that only [last name] [name] had that summer when she passed watermelom out to the young volleyball players of 'lil tykes' volleyball team.
the way her lips curved into a smile as each child thanked her, the way she brushed her hair behind her ear, the way she bent her knees to be eye level of every young boy shorter than her.
she stood up, the container of fruit in her hands as the boys before her ran off laughing. she slowly turned, watching the kids run off as she caught sight of two other boys that stood in the corner of the small gymnasium with a white volleyball.
she approached them with a smile, the black haired child turning red immediately and the [hair color] haired boy reaching into the container to grab a freshly cut slice of watermelon.
[name]'s free hand moved to her lips, and from the side of her face, oikawa see a clear smile as she silently urged his nephew to grab a piece of fruit from the container.
his nephew gave in, grabbing a piece and then he grabbed the [hair color] haired boys hand, running off quickly out of panic.
she stood straight up once again and he noticed her eyes shifted, catching him staring from the side. he quickly turned to where his nephew had ran off to, the children sitting at a wooden bench and taking small bites of their watermelons- his nephews friend teasingly poking at him with inaudible comments that oikawa assumed were about the little crush the small boy had on their daily visitor.
a tap on his shoulder snapped him back to reality, the reality that the young woman had caught him staring and had decided to pay him a visit.
he turned, seeing the container inching towards him as she held a small smile on her face.
"sorry if the sudden snack is annoying! a lot of the kids were complaining about how hungry they are after practice since it ends towards the afternoon and they don't usually pack themselves lunch!"
the brown haired male stared, his cheeks slowly starting to flourish, but he refused it with every bit of willpower he had. he was oikawa tooru, he would never blush over such a simple act! he chuckled, "don't worry about it!"
[name] had smiled again, shaking the container for his attention, hinting for him to take a piece. "would you like some?" she asked, assuming that he hadn't eaten either- he hadn't.
oikawa shook his head, putting his hand up and shaking it hesitantly. "i'm not much of a watermelon person," he informed, catching how she nodded in understanding before snapping the lid on, a soft clamp only being heard between the two.
the [eye color] eyed teenager let out a soft hum, "i guess i'll have to buy you something else then!" she giggled softly, her hand moving to her lips yet again as if it would block out the sound of her precious laughter that was music to oikawa's ears every weekday.
he didn't know what it was about her. the fact that she didn't chase after him like every other girl? the fact that she only stood around to support the youth volleyball team? or maybe it was the fact that he couldn't have her.
he heard her phone ring before he could object to her spending any bit of money on him, her head turning to her bag that wasn't too far away and she sighed out softly, walking towards it.
[name] fell to her knees, rummaging through the bag as she pulled out her cellphone and blushed a bright pink. she slid the container into the bag and stood up, the phone moving to her ear after she tapped the screen. "hi!" she exclaimed, moving to the gymnasium doors that were parted to let in the cool summer wind.
she pushed the doors open wider, taking a step out and shut the door behind her.
oikawa stared, frowning slightly with slight annoyance.
out of all the things oikawa would ever refuse to admit, he would definitely never admit that he was falling.
