1. The Best Day Ever

Grian POV

Life is a mystery.

Some things that you thought that you could always count on sometimes just disappear and POOF! You are left with nothing.

This is exactly what I was thinking as I flew through the Hermitcraft Season 10 server. I had just gotten my Mending book about ten minutes ago. You would expect me to be jumping up and down screaming "YES" at the top of my lungs, right?

Yeah, no.

It happened for about three minutes, and then the rush left. Just like that. Literally what is my life anymore? Okay, yes, you wouldn't really consider this the worst thing to ever happen to me, but suddenly all motivation left. Like a fragile piece of paper in the wind, let go of and now lost to the sea.

I land down onto the ground in the middle of the shopping district, taking in the sights.

Dear lord are the Hermits talented.

Every building that surrounds me- it just reeks of talent.

I wish I had that...

Nope! Nope- I stopped that kind of thinking months- no, years ago! No need to start that back up now. The voices in my head can stay quiet for just a little longer, at least until I'm back at the fishing dock with the comfort of the sea beside me.

Let's see... what was I doing here again? Oh, right!

I was on my way to meet Scar! He is going to tell me all about his exciting new forest or whatever, and give me a few building tips. To be honest, I may or may not be going just to talk to him and look at him and spend time with him and-

You get the point.

"Hey, Gri!" I hear a voice shout from above me. I glance up last second before I feel Scar pummel into me. We both fall to the ground and I feel my chest erupt in giggles. Scar really can be so silly sometimes, can't he?

"Scar!" I yell, rubbing my head as I sit up. Scar had already lifted himself up to standing position and offered his hand out to me. I graciously take it, but not without mentally noting how his hands feel. Not that it matters.

Scar glances down at me and I meet my stormy blue eyes with his emerald green ones. "Sorry Grian! I swear, I wasn't aiming for you... much." He cracks a grin, and I can physically feel my heart melt.

"Mhm Scar. Yeah." I tease, my parrot wings still shaking from the silent laughter in my chest. I watch as Scar glances at my wings with a worried expression. I have a quick double take. What was he looking at? "Scar?"

The Train Conductor looks up from my wings and his smile fills his face again. "Oh, it was nothing Gri!" Well as much as I can tell that it was clearly not nothing, I don't want to ruin what was turning out to be a perfect day with anything that could pose a threat. Today was going to be great!

I glance around. "Soooo... do you want to head on over to your base and start on giving me a few tips?" Scar readjusts the hat sitting on his head slightly from the fall which he still hadn't fixed.

"Hmm... sure! I would love to see your base sometime though!" Scar says smiling down at me.

Nobody wants to see my builds.

I smile. "Okay! We will have to do that sometimes then, won't we?" I watch as Scar pulls out his rockets and shoots up into the air. It's always been interesting how the others do that. Fake wings? Of course, I'm so happy that they get to enjoy the anomaly that is flying, but it's never seemed very natural to me. Of course, wings in general didn't seem natural to me back in High School and such.

High School.

The sudden internal mention of that wretched place causes me to wait a moment before shooting up into the air. But that... no, that wasn't today's problem. Today was going to be a just wonderful day!

I let my parrot wings fall out of resting position, feel them lightly brush the ground before propelling of the ground with a powerful blast. My eyes automatically shut. Ah, that feeling of bliss. Just shooting through the air with no rules, no worries in the world. Just having a single place to be free.

It's my happy place.

I open my eyes out of instinct and look around. Scar is probably waiting for me over at his base. God was he talented. Scar could build anything, and it would look fantastic. I sigh. Scar...

I start to fly over to his base and briefly pause above my own. The disorganization really was a problem... I really should work on that sometime soon. I spot the handso- the man waiting for me at the entrance to his base (It's a zoo now?) and I land down right in front of him. He seemingly looks at me in awe.

"How do you... how are you so graceful in the air? You just did like a million flips without hesitating once!" He says in excitement, tilting his head just slightly.

Did I really do that many flips? I hadn't even been paying attention. "Just avian instinct, I guess," I say, shrugging just slightly. Was it still considered avian instinct when you weren't born avian? Surely, right? Well, it's not like I could tell anybody about Evo and the Watchers anyways. It is my own problem that nobody deserved to even have on their conscious.

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts. Today is a GREAT day.

Scar smiles happily and starts yapping about something, but I'm too engrossed in his looks. The way that is long hair falls into his eyes when he excitedly jumps up and down, and the way that he uses his hands to talk- he just makes me, well, happy.

I don't always feel that way very often.

Suddenly Scar gasps, and I'm worried that he could tell I wasn't really paying attention. I look up from my zoning out and meet eyes with his. "What is it, Scar?"

He opens his mouth and says, "Is that what I think it is?" I pause, a little bit confused, before looking down and realizing that he could see the Mending book peeking out from my pockets just slightly. I smile softly and nod, despite the mild disappointment of having nothing to look forward to anymore.

Scar squeals in excitement for me and takes my hands, spinning me in a circle. It's a little disorienting to be honest, but I would give anything in the world for just another moment of it. He stops and clears his throat. "I am so very happy for you Grian," he says in a horribly monotone voice, furrowing his eyebrows. I can't help but giggle.

"Scar!" I say, playfully swatting at his arm. This man is going to be the death of me. Honestly, I think that I say his name more than I do any other word in the entire world!

Looking down at his communicator, Scar gasps. "Shoot! Grian!" He says looking up. "I forgot to meet Skizz for a PoePoe meeting! I'm afraid that I've gotta run!" I laugh as he pulls out his "PoePoe" horn and blows it twice- the ridiculous chant coming out in doubles, a single second apart, and I wait very patiently for the torture to end.

"Well, okay then! I'll see you Scar!" I say, a gigantic smile on my face. He waves a goodbye and then pulls out his fireworks, blasting up and into the distance. It's safe to say that my smile melts away pretty quickly. It's just another thing that I was looking forward to gone.

I force myself to see the sunshine though. Now I get to go and meet up with Mumbo! That'll be fun!

Today was going to be a good day whether I liked it or not.

...

Right?
