Chapter 2
Echo pulled on her white Converse shoes as she sat on the edge of her bed. Her wore blue skin tight jeans white a baggy, over sized, soft pink woolen jumper. Her long brown hair was tied up in a messy bun with a light amount of make-up on her face emphasing her deep blue eyes which had golden flakes flicking out from the pupil.
" Echo! Hurry up or you'll be late!" David yelled up from the bottom of the stairs as Echo pushed herself up and off the bed. She turned and walked to wards her bedroom door while grabbing the small black handbag she had packed with some money, phone and her lip balm. She skipped down the stairs with a smile planted firmly on her face as they boys watched her with their own.
" Morning!" Echo sounded off as she grabbed a piece of toast and looked to them with a raised eyebrow.
" Are we gonna go then?" She asked motioning towards the door. " Or we are gonna be late." She smirked using their own words against them. Euan shook his head gently at her as he grabbed his keys and they made their way towards the garage.
" You guys excited for your tests?" Echo asked as they drove out of the garage and onto the road. They headed towards the pack house where they would all begin their day.
" Years of training are a good thing to have behind us." Euan began as he continued to watch the road.
" We ain't worried about nothing!" David spoke cheerfully and confidently. It was only a five minute drive before they pulled to a stop outside the large modern house, mostly made from windows. Echo swallowed nervously as they all exited the car and closed the doors behind them.
" That's the orphanage over there. If you need anything just message or shout." Euan said to Echo as he hugged her and kissed her forehead behind moving for David to do the same.
" Good luck." Echo spoke to her brothers as they walked towards the pack house. Echo sighed with a soft smile before turning and walking towards the smaller building next to the pack house. She opened the door to her the laughter and talking of babies to teenagers. Echo smiled as she walked into the house and closed the door behind her. A middle aged woman popped her head around the corner and smiled as her body followed her. She was tall and slender with dyed brown hair and a few winkles here and there. Her soft and kind chocolate brown eyes sparkled as she stepped towards Echo holding a small baby in her arms wrapped in a blue blanket.
" You must be Echo? What a wonderful name. I'm Joanne, I run the Orphanage." She smiled as she stopped just in front of her. " I would shake your hand but I have this little one." She explained as Echo shook her head and smiled.
" Don't worry about it, he's adorable!" Echo muttered as she moved the blanket slightly to see the small baby boy soundly sleeping away in her arms.
" Well then, Lets show you around the house." Joanne said as she turned and walked through the room. " We get children from all over the country. When they is no where for them to go they come here. We have the largest Orphanage in the world as we have over fifty children currently living here. When they turn sixteen they can either move to the pack house or move to another pack with the Alpha's acceptance. Most seem to chose the latter as they want to find their mated one." Joanne said as they walked up the stairs.
" The floors are split, Babies and toddlers and on the ground along with the living room and kitchen. Preteens are one the first floor, teens the second and the top floor is our rooms if we have to stay and offices. Kids are not aloud on that floor unless with one of us." Joanne continued as they walked looked around the house with the children all around the place.
" Well, it's time for lunch." Joanne said as they walked back down the stairs and towards the kitchen where there was another woman with a apron wrapped around her.
" Gabby, meet Echo our new start. This is Gabby the cook." Joanne spoke as she bounced the bundle in her arms gently when the boy cooed. Gabby reached over and pressed a button which sent a noise rippling through the house and then the thunder of feet rushed towards the kitchen. Echo watched as lots of small bodies rushed to get their pick of food. Echo watched a younger girl standing in the corner watching everyone with her thumb in her mouth.
" That's Casey. She is our newest one here. Her parent were convicted of killing a human and were both killed for it. They council brought her here with the knowledge that she was abused and tortured by them. No one has been able to get through to her." Joanne said as she looked to the young girl who could be no older then five years old. She had blond hair and brown eyes and was wearing a white dress and black shoes. Echo huffed and walked over to her before gently kneeling down and smiling to the young girl.
" Hello, I'm Echo. What's your name?" Echo asked softly as the little girl looked up to her. Her brown eyes dull and void of any emotion. Something you should never see in a young pup.
" Casey." She whispered as Echo smiled.
" You must be hungry... Come on." Echo said and put her hand out for Casey to take. The girl hesitated but place her tiny hand into Echo's and they walked through the crowd to the table of food. Casey picked her plate and walked away from Echo to the corner of the room.
" That's a better start than anyone has had before." Joanne said with a happy smile. Echo nodded and as the day continued, she continued to understand and learn things about the pups. She walked outside at the end of the day to see her brothers waiting by the cars.
" Well, how did the tests go?" She asked them as they smiled proudly to her.
" We passed. We have been award the positions just under the third in command." They said as Echo squealed happily and hugged them both while congratulating them.
" I'm so happy for you both!" She said as they all jumped back into the car.
" How was your first day then?" Euan asked her as she smiled.
" Wonderful." Echo whispered as she looked out the window. " Absolutely wonderful."
