Chapter 4: "Oh, That's A Wolf"

Kelsey

Liam and I got out of the locker's room holding hands. We had to go to our next class, but when we passed by the library, an angry Stiles came out. He almost bumped into us because he didn't see us. Once he noticed it, he walked to us.

"You two, meet me in my jeep after school." He just left without saying any other word.

And after school we did as Stiles told us. We stood next to his jeep waiting for him, for about ten minutes.

"Okay guys, let's go." He said going around the car and Liam and I shared a look.

"What are we going to do?" I asked him.

"You'll see." Stiles replied and got into the car, but when I was going to do it too, he got out. "You," He said to me. "to the back seat. And you, Liam, to the front seat."

"Why?" Liam frowned.

"Rules are rules."

-

Okay, I didn't think that nobody would like to watch someone do absolutely nothing for three hours. And I was right. Stiles made us wait for Theo to do something, which didn't do, for three long and bring hours. He needed us to listen from his backyard, but we only heard him playing video games. It wasn't until Theo went out of his house and grabbed his car. We had followed him to the woods, and by then, we had lost him.

"I told you he was up to something." Said Stiles walking in the direction he said Theo had gone. Us following him.

"We just spent three hours watching this dude play video games in his bedroom." Liam complained.

"He better be out here covering up a mass murder." I mumbled but Stiles apparently heard me.

"Let's find out. You still got his scent?" He looked back at me. Honestly, I was starting to think that Stiles was getting a bit obsessed with Theo, and it was affecting him, since we didn't believe him. There was a really little chance that what he said was true. But Stiles was that stubborn.

"Don't need it." I simply said. I felt how Liam stopped behind me. "What?" I turned to him and I noticed he had a really guilty look on his face. "What's wrong?"

"I forgot, I was supposed to meet Mason at the school gym." I stopped immediately when I heard him. Mason was starting to get pissed off with Liam always leaving him aside.

"Okay, why didn't you just tell him?" Stiles simply asked and we both looked at him.

"Tell him what?" Said Liam.

"Anything."

"He can't just tell him anything." I defended my boyfriend.

"Why not?"

"Because I haven't told him everything." Liam finally said and Stiles looked at him in disbelief.

"Still? We said it was okay."

"Yeah, but it's not that easy. It's a lot to accept." I told Stiles. If my best friend came to me and told me he was a werewolf I would freak the fuck out. But It's true that it's better if he knew, and eventually, he'd get used to it.

"C'mon Kelsey, he watched my dad blow up a Berserker with a land mine." Stiles reasoned. "I think the groundwork's been pretty thoroughly laid for acceptance. Scott and I have been through this. Okay? More than once." He looked at Liam trying to give him courage "It's always been better when they know."

"But what if he freaks out?" Liam started listing consequences it could suffer as we started walking again. "What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he tries to stab me with something silver? Or what if-"

Suddenly, Liam shut up, and that made Stiles and I share a look. We both looked back to find a hole in the land, which came out of the nowhere, and Liam at the bottom of it.

"What the hell are you doing?" I asked from above, grinning.

"I-" Stiles was about to say something but shut up and looked to his left, since I was on his right. "There he is." He said, referring himself to Theo. "Hurry up. Stop screwing around." I laughed at his last comment and looked back down at Liam.

"Are you okay there? Do you want me to get you up?"

"No," He said from the hole and a couple of seconds later he was up in the surface again. "I'm fine."

"Come on." He heard Stiles saying to us. We followed him and hide behind a bush. We could perfectly see Theo from here. He was on a bridge, holding something in his hands. "Try and get his scent." We nodded and concentrated. Oh my... Theo smelled great. Okay, that just sounded... whatever. "Get anything?"

"Soap." Replied Liam. "It's nice."

"It smells good." I added in a sigh.

"Not his soap, his emotional state. Chemosignals, remember?" Stiles jumped.

"Oh, yeah." Liam and I nodded and tried to get something. "Okay. He's sad."

"He's sad?"

"Well, not just sad It's more like grief." I specified.

"Grief?" As Stiles said that Theo took out a white flower and threw it down the bridge. I felt he got sadder as he did that. "Oh, my God! Go! We have to go."

"What? Why?" I asked confused. Stiles had started pushing us away from Theo.

"Go! Right now. Just go." I didn't move at all, and Stiles knew that I was not going to unless he told me. "That's the bridge where they found his sister."

"What sister?" Asked Liam this time.

"The one that got lost and died from exposure. He's leaving a flower for her." My heart skipped a beat at the thought.

"Oh my God, that's so cute and sad..." I started to say but then realized what we were doing. "And so disturbing from us!"

"I know." Said Stiles and we started walking faster.

"That doesn't sound evil at all." Liam also pointed out and Stiles glared at him.

"I know."

We passed by the hole Liam had fell in before and we were on our way to the jeep. I really felt bad for Theo and his sister. I felt so guilty for being here, watching him. I couldn't even imagine what would I do if I lost my sister. I would not even be able to go out. Some trees away, we saw the jeep, but just then, a figure stood in front us. It jumped from the tree it was on and fell next to us.

"What you guys doing?" Theo smiled at us. He almost scared me. An again, he started at me for a while. Liam seemed to notice it too and moved a step forwards growling at him. "Whoa. Why do I get the feeling this kid's tougher than he looks?"

"Only when we let him off his leash." Stiles tried to scare Theo, but obviously didn't work. And less with that.

"Stiles, we were in Little League together." Theo chuckled. "Why are you so suspicious of me?"

"Because of these." Stiles showed him two pieces of paper. "One's a speeding ticket signed by your dad eight years ago. The other one's a signature on a transfer form to Beacon High." Oh, so that was. "They're different."

"Huh." Theo looked at it closer. "Yeah, they do look a little different."

"No, they're totally different. Signed by two different people."

"Stiles, please, you're being ridiculous." I though out loud in a mumble but I think Stiles heard me.

"So my dad's not my dad? Like he's an imposter?" Theo said with a little laugh.

"Yeah, something like that."

"Who do you think I am?"

"We don't know yet." Liam said this time. What was wrong with them? I couldn't believe it.

"Want me to give you a DNA sample or something?"

"No." Stiles replied Theo. "I don't have anything from the fourth grade to match it to."

"You know, Stiles," Theo started. "I came back here for Scott but I also came back for you. Someone like you. Someone who's willing to walk into the woods in the middle of the night to protect his friends. I don't have anyone like that, but Scott does. You all do. I know I'm in the right place. I'm meant to be here. I'm meant to be part of this pack."

I didn't think Theo was a bad person at all. If anything, we were the bad people following him around. Theo left on his own, with his car. When we got to the jeep, it turned out that Scott was waiting for us. He had come with his motorcycle.

"Found anything?" He asked all of us.

"Nope." I rudely said and Stiles glared at me. I was tired, hungry and I had a lot of homework to do since I spent all my afternoon watching an innocent person doing absolutely nothing. So Stiles wasn't going to hear me too happy that nigh.

"I fell in a hole." Liam felt the tension and tried to cheer things up. I held his hand and opened the jeep door to get into it.

"It was the bridge where his sister died, wasn't it?" Scott asked Stiles.

"Yes, it was." He replied. "Very embarrassing." Oh, took the words out of my mouth. "So we are gonna leave now." Stiles got into the jeep, but when he tried to start it, the engine started sputtering and then stopped. "Liam, just do me a favor, get in the car and turn the ignition when I say." Why couldn't I? I decided it not to say that out loud.

"Stiles?" Scott called him when he opened the car hood.

"Be with you in a sec. Try it." Stiles told Liam to start the car but it didn't work.

"Stiles."

"Yes. Okay, we followed him out here." Stiles finally replied Scott. "What do you want me to say? That I'm a stalker, huh? That I'm crazy, totally paranoid? That I'm ridiculous?" He said that last part a bit louder, to make sure I heard it. "None of this is new information."

"Now you're gonna try to at least give him the benefit of the doubt?"

"I give people the benefit of the doubt. I've given a lot of benefit to a lot of people."

"Like Derek? Kira? Liam? Kelsey?" I reckon Scott said my name, but not even I could heard it. He hadn't said it clear enough. Why did Stiles felt suspicious of me? What was wrong with him?

"I was right about Peter." Stiles pointed out. "Try it again." The car didn't work yet. "You know, I bet you still think that there's something about him that can be saved."

"Maybe." Stiles exhaled before yelling to Liam again. "Try it again."

"Why can't you trust anyone?"

"Because you trust everyone!" After that, he hit the car with all his might. He held his hand as he tried to contain a scream of pain. I was really starting to feel bad for him too. I just wanted to go home.

"Are you okay?" Scott asked Stiles.

"I'm fine."

"You could've broken it."

"It's not broken." Stiles kept refusing.

"Let me see it."

"I'm fine."

"Let me see it." Scott grabbed his hand and placed his over it. His veins turned black, meaning he was taking away his pain. Stiles let out a relived sigh. I couldn't stand it anymore. Scott left before us with his motorcycle, and before Stiles got in the jeep I got off. I walked towards him with a serious look on my face. I said I couldn't stand it anymore, and I was ending that. He looked at me with fear in his eyes as he watched me walk in his direction. I felt his heartbeat raising, but the tension he was feeling and the necessity of getting into the jeep and leave me behind fade away when he saw my eyes were starting to water up.

"Wha-"

"I-I'm sorry, okay." I said with a cracked voice. That was the only thing I needed to say before he pulled me into a hug. His heartbeat had clamed down, and he really felt more relieved.

"Y-you know," He started, with his voice cracked up too. "You know I love you like a sister, right?"

I just nodded. We didn't like to have deep talks, and we weren't used to them, so that was really awkward. I decided to let it all go. Stiles was suffering enough, I would ask him all I wanted to know later. When he was feeling better, less stressed.

But I just felt I was leaving too many questions to be answered for later.

-

Stiles drove us to school so Liam could meet Mason and tell him everything. He told me to go with him, so he wasn't alone, and Mason knew there were more like us. As we ran to the entrance, Mason was already getting out of there.

"Hey." I said and stopped running to walk towards him. Mason looked at us, kind of surprised and incredulous, like he didn't expect us to be there, which I understood.

"Sorry I'm late." Liam apologized but Mason shook his head.

"Oh, no, you're not late." He said. "You missed it." I had never seen him this pissed off and disappointed. I worked out. For two hours."

"Yeah, I know." Liam tried. "I forgot." He looked at me. It was the moment we were going to tell him everything. I nodded to Liam and he looked back at Mason. "And I'm gonna tell you why. Actually, I'm gonna tell you a lot of things. A lot of hard to believe things."

"Really hard to believe." I added but Mason wasn't listening us, he was looking behind us.

"There's a wolf." He said and I looked behind too. He was right. There was a fucking wolf growling at us.

"Yeah, I'm getting to that." Liam hadn't notice yet.

"No." Mason said, starting to freak out. "There's a wolf right behind you."

I grabbed Liam by his shoulders and turned him around. His face got pale when he saw the wolf starting to move in our direction.

"Oh, that's a wolf."

We started running as fast as we could through the school halls. I was running behind Mason and Liam. The wolf kept chasing us and I decided to stop and turn to him. I pulled off my claws and growled at it. The wolf growled back and jumped forwards me, throwing me onto the floor. It stood staring at me for a moment. Before it could do anything, the wolf looked up away from me. A roar echoed down the hall. The wolf got off me scared and ran away panting.

"Kelsey." Liam helped me to get up, his eyes still glowing. He was the one who roared to make the wolf ran away.

"I'm okay." But, was Mason okay? I looked at him, who was looking at us in shock. His eyes were wide open and he couldn't move. I looked back at Liam, who was staring at Mason trying to catch his breath again.

"There's something I gotta tell you." He said but Mason finished the sentence with a smile on his face.

"You're a werewolf."

-

The wolf turned back into his human form, revealing a tall and young guy.

"She's a werewolf." He whispered to himself. He thought the girl was a banshee, that's what he had been thinking all the time, since he saw how they'd turned her. He had seen everything and he just didn't understand.

He ran his hands through his hair, distressed. That was really valuable information, it could change everything. He knew they were going to go for her if they found out.

Or if he gave her to them.
