Chapter 19: Changing Roles
Stiles
Suddenly Kelsey got out of Theo's car and walk towards us. I was sure she had something planned to defeat Theo. To make him regret what he did to her. She would shut him up. He would finally fall, and we would have won.
But all my hope disappeared when she moved towards him and placed a kiss on his lips as he smirked. They pulled away, him wrapping an arm around her waist and her resting hers on his shoulder, both looking at me with evilness in their eyes.
"But... Kelsey, you were back." I knew my face was pale. Why didn't I suppose this? "You promised me."
"Did you really think it would be enough with one 'I love you' and 'We don't want to lose you', you fool?" Theo let out with a chuckle and Kelsey smiled at him.
"Kelsey..."
"We all love you, we don't want to lose you." She mocked my words and said four more before turning to smile to Theo again. "He's right, you idiot."
24 hours before
Liam
"What do you mean, 'No'?" Scott was refusing to save Hayden. He promised me. He promised he would save her and now he was breaking his promise. He lied to me. She was dying because we didn't protect her. She was dying because of my fault.
"Liam, look at her." He calmly said nodding at her. "She's too weak. It will kill her. We don't even know what the mercury's doing to her. We don't even know if it is actually mercury. This can't be the only way to save her life."
"It saved mine."
"You know, that was different. You were hanging off a ledge."
"You promised. You said you'd do everything you could." I said getting even angrier. The full moon wasn't helping.
"Which is why I'm not going to do something I think is going to kill her."
"Are you fucking serious?" Right when he said those words, it remind me of what happened in Mexico. When Kelsey was hurt, he could have bit her, but he didn't want to. Now he was doing the same with Hayden. "Are you doing this again? You didn't want to bite Kelsey back in Mexico."
"She lived."
"But Hayden is not Kelsey!" I don't know whom I was talking to. I was yelling to Scott but it felt like I said those words to myself. I was so angry. Angry with Scott, with myself, with everything.
"There has to be..." Scott started breathing heavily; his asthma wouldn't let him talk. "There has to..."
"Scott." Theo called him behind us and threw him an inhaler. Scott shook it up and breathed it in.
"There's another way to save her."
"Guys, I don't know what the statistics are for surviving a werewolf bite, but she's definitely not surviving this." I turned to look at Hayden in Theo's arms. She was panting more than before and looked paler. "We need to do something."
Kelsey
I sighed again and looked through the passenger's seat window. I felt myself getting sicker with every second. I looked up at the night sky from inside of Stiles' jeep. Some clouds moved away from the moon, showing how full it was. I hated full moons. Even though I could stay in control, I was nervous about this one since it was a super moon. This wasn't like the last one, at least that night I had fun watching Liam being chained to a tree. Ugh, now I was thinking about Liam, not really what I needed.
"Hey, are you okay?" Stiles interrupted my thoughts, and I mentally thanked him. I glanced at him, and he returned me the look intermittently as he didn't want to keep his eyes out of the road. "You look pale."
"Yeah, I think it's the super moon." I said sighing and rested my head against the window. "At least I'm not roaring at everything I see."
"I guess this is better." He let go an empty laugh and everything went silence after that. We were still wet from the rain, which had stopped now. Stiles couldn't stop tapping the wheel with his index finger and his heart was beating really fast. I knew he was overthinking his conversation with Scott and I had to distract him with something. I used the first thing that came into my mind.
"You know, I'm sorry." I said to break the silence. I was trying to apologize for kissing him. I really didn't like saying it.
"For what?"
"Uhm..." I felt my cheeks heating up and I knew I was blushing. He wasn't going to make me say it, was he? "For that thing that happened before."
"Don't worry, Kels." He placed one hand on my shoulder while keeping the other one on the wheel when he saw I was embarrassed for my actions. "I know it wasn't you."
"It was like..." I let out a sigh as I tried to explain Stiles my experience. Everything I had done, I hadn't thought it first. I just did it, even if I thought it was wrong, my body took control and did it anyways. "Like I couldn't do anything to stop it. It looked wrong, it was wrong but I still did it. I felt so-"
"Uncontrollable." He finished the sentence for me, but the way he said it made me shiver. I was scared to look at him, but I did it anyways. For a moment, his face was completely pale. He had a lot of dark circles under his eyes and was smirking at me. I rushed to pull away from him as I shook my head with my eyes closed. When I opened them again, he was staring at me confused. He was fine. It was because of the full moon. That wasn't happening, not again. I hallucinated, he was fine. It was the stupid super moon.
"Are you sure you are okay?" I threw my head back after nodding at his question. Fucking full moon, it was mentally damaging me.
We drove in silence for a few moments before the jeep engine started making really strange noises. They where getting louder when smoke started coming out of nowhere.
"What...?"
There was that much smoke Stiles had to stop the car. I tried to get it out of my face with the help of my hands, but it just didn't work. I heard Stiles getting out of the car and I followed his actions, but when I tried to the door wouldn't open. My eyes started to itch and I was coughing a lot. I was about to break the window glass when the door opened and I immediately jumped out, still coughing.
We stood observing the jeep. It was totally torn apart. Poor jeep. I didn't realize Stiles had the spanner that Scott had given him. He was staring at it furiously. Suddenly, he lifted up his arm to throw it away, but then put it back down just to turn around and hit the jeep with it. It broke the windshield and fell to the ground.
I watched how Stiles, tired, sat resting his back on the jeep. I sat next to him, neither of us looking at each other. He missed Scott. He missed everything being normal and not so complicated. I missed that too. I missed having fun with them and not having to worry about nobody getting hurt. I missed Liam too.
I missed him.
-
Eventually I fell asleep. But I had a feeling Stiles stayed awake all night. That really worried me, because it meant that he had been overthinking, and that was the last thing he needed. I had called Malia when I woke up and thankfully she came to pick us up. Stiles called the tow truck and they came a few minutes after Malia. They took the jeep away and it kinda made me sad.
"Malia, can you take me home, please?" I asked her as we got inside her car. I sat in the backseat and Stiles on the passenger's seat. I didn't know if I was ready to be in a car driven by Malia again.
"Sure." I sort of lied when I asked her to take me home. Yeah, I was going there to change and eat something. But actually, I had some things I had to take care of not exactly at home.
"Can they fix it?" Malia asked after a few minutes of being driving. She shouldn't get distracted while driving.
"There's not enough duct tape in the world to fix that thing." Oh gosh, why was he replying? Did he want us to die or something?
"Maybe you should try something other than duct tape."
"It's got a bad alternator, you know, needs all new belts, transmission's going. The brake pads are basically metal on metal." He explained. Well, if we were alive so far, it actually meant Malia had gotten better.
"How come you let it get so bad?"
"There's been a few distractions, if you haven't noticed."
"I notice." Malia looked at him for a moment before looking at the road again. "More than you think I do."
"Uh, I didn't mean it like that."
"Am I taking you home too?" She changed subject after Stiles' mumbling.
"No." He told her. "Sheriff station. I gotta talk to my dad."
-
I had to do this for the pack.
It was for a good reason.
"You know what's coming, don't you?" Theo asked Lydia, making her turn around and gasp in surprise. I was trying really hard to contain myself. I tried to keep calm and not raise my heartbeat. Theo couldn't now what side I was in.
"Someone's going to die here." Lydia almost whispered. She was looking at the both of us. But I couldn't look back at her. I knew what was going to happen to her.
"You're right." Said Theo as he got closer to her and I imitated his steps. The library was empty and there was no one around who could hear us. The cops were here, but they were in the other side of the school. So, unless one of them came in by accident, no one would see us. "But I can't let you tell anyone."
"Why?" She was so confused. I knew I would break up crying if I looked at her.
"Because I want you, Lydia." Theo said. He thought I didn't understand but I did now. "I want all of you."
"What are you talking about?" Now Lydia was looking only at me. "Kelsey?"
"Don't worry." Theo told her. Every time he spoke made me want to shut him up by punching him in the face. The fool moon was really challenging me as it only feed me with anger. "I'll give you some time to think about it."
And then he punched her and knocked her down. She was laid on the floor unconscious. I looked everywhere but at her face. I couldn't. I had to try my best to hold in my tears.
Theo looked at me smiling, as if he though it was still charming to me. I glanced back at him with the most relaxed face I could express at the moment. He got closer to me, not breaking the eye contact. I gulped when he gently lift my chin up with his thumb and index finger.
"Don't be nervous, love." He softly kissed me on the cheek as I almost put a disgust look when he called me love. He must have noticed my heartbeat and behavior. "This is the best for the pack. This is the best for you. Do you remember what we have to do next?"
Now we were going to hide my sister's body, text Scott with her phone and then lock him in the library with mountain ash.
"Yeah, can I stay here?" I asked Theo with a fake smile. "I'm feeling bad because of the full moon." The truth was that I didn't want to be close to him, but I got to control my heartbeat really well when I said that.
"Whatever you want, love." And as I widened my smile, he gently kissed my hand. Once again, I cringed when pronounced that last word.
Picked up Lydia bridal style and got her out of there. I stood there focusing on hearing whether he had got into his car. When I heard him start the car and drive away, I couldn't keep it anymore and I broke crying.
"I'm so sorry, Lydia." I said falling into the ground as I cried harder.
"Lydia!"
-
Theo was back, I was acting again and Scott was in the library. As the night came closer, I only got furious and more furious. My plan was to wait until the moon was at its highest point, so it will make me stronger, and I could give Theo what he deserved.
"Hey, Lydia?" Scott called her from inside the library. I was outside; Theo didn't want me to get locked in too. He finished the circle around the library with the mountain ash and then Scott noticed his presence. "That's not possible."
"You're right." Theo smirked. "A werewolf shouldn't even be able to touch mountain ash."
"You're a Chimera."
"I'm the first Chimera. It's the coyote part you don't notice. It's why Malia trusted me first, even though she probably didn't know it. You found the perfect word though, Scott. Because a Chimera isn't just a monster with different parts. It can also mean something impossible to achieve. An unrealizable dream."
"And they realized you?"
"They came close with me." Theo explained. "But we can't all be perfect. We can't all be true Alphas." I heard how Scott tried to reach him but was pushed backwards by the mountain ash. I heard him falling on the floor along with some chairs. "Damn. I felt that."
"No calls, Scott." Theo made the signal that indicated me it was the moment I came in Scott's view. He stood watching at me speechless and confused, like Lydia did before. "No Stiles, no Malia, no Lydia." I turned on the device that would make Scott unable to communicate with the outside. Just as Theo had told me. "You're just going to have to wait here alone for what happens next."
"Kelsey..." He stared at me but once again, I couldn't look at him either. "What do you mean? What's next?"
I gulped to make sure my voice wouldn't crack. I felt my anger grow slowly. I had to steel myself to look at Scott in the eyes and say what Theo wanted me to say.
"The Supermoon."

Okay, first, why. can't. nobody. stay. fucking. dead. on. Teen. Wolf?
I can't, I just can't, and now we have to wait until... what? January or March?
And second, okay, so, Hayden is dying, Liam asks Scott to bite her, Scott doesn't want to bite Hayden, Hayden dies and then comes back to life... That sounds pretty similar to the end of Can't Go Back (Prequel to this book). I mean! Dylan read my book in Houston Con and now this finale... :/
But yeah! Next chapter is the last one! And I'm sorry, but I'm gonna leave you in a cliffhanger :S
It's going to have good things, tho :)
