CHAPTER SIX
DYLAN UNCHAINED
"let me be your woman"
˚✧₊*⁎⁺˳✧༚

So far a few weeks had gone by. It was a mixture of sassy comments from Dylan, heavy training with both Delphia and Lincoln, language 'classes' from another friend of Lincoln's and some messing around. The last part was for sure Dylan's favorite. Especially if it included Lincoln. Seeing him completely out his guard down and have fun was pretty amusing to watch.

Dylan could feel the improvement she had made, and everyone else could see it. She was faster with her punches, her kicks were more precise and she was getting knocked down fewer and fewer times. Lincoln made sure to be there to either assist or obeserve every chance he got. Dylan was becoming more and more like them, but she was still in touch with herself.

Well, at least to a certain extent. It was like Dylan was finally unchained, her inner beast now being released. As Delphia continued harshly showing her different techniques and tricks that would later prove useful in combat, Dylan was learning new things about herself as well. In reality, she never knew she could be this strong while still being herself truly all at once. Dylan absolutely loved feeling strong.

Unfortunately, Dylan had been feeling a lot of other things too. One of them being wrong. God did she hate loosing an argument. Usually she rarely did. But it was like Delphia had this unlimited source of knowledge and really freaking good comebacks to anything Dylan had to say. Everytime the two had gotten into an arguement, Delphia had won. It was really getting on Dylan's nerves.

Delphia kind of reminded Dylan of Murphy, only dumber.

That was another thing the girl had been feeling. Dylan Kane was missing her best friend greatly, so much so that it was starting to affect her sleep. Of course Murphy was constantly on her mind, he always had been, but this was different. Whenever she wasn't awake, she was dreaming that he was dead, and everytime she closed her eyes, she could see him dying.

Lincoln's theory that her friends was dead was slowly starting to eat away at her, chipping away pieces of her soul in the process.

The Kane girl had yet to catch wind of her friends being at this new campsite, not too far from where they were. Lincoln had gone out of his way to make sure she didn't find out. But his behavior had sparked some suspicion in her, which was why he was currently sitting across from her preparing to tell her about it. That, and the fact that he too had noticed how much being away from them and not knowing if they were well was haunting her.

This could only go two ways.

Number one, Dylan would get extremely upset, yell at him and storm off only to never return. Or, she could be ever so greatful he told her, decide to stay and continue training and they lived happily ever after or whatever. Knowing Dylan, it was probably the first. Lincoln was hoping for the latter, though.

"You know, not to brag, but I'm basically like a sick grounder lady who can kick everyone's ass." Dylam joked, a grin on display. They were both currently in their small cabin, chatting back and forth.

"I need to tell you something." Lincoln admitted, eyes locked in the girl. She was mindlessly adding a braid to her hair.

Dylan barely spared him a glance as she responded. "Fire."

The two still hadn't done more than sharing loving kisses here and there as well as cuddling every night, which by the way was by far Dylan's favorite part of their. . . situationship.

God, they needed to get a label or whatever.

Okay, fine, it wasn't like Dylan freaking Kane was the label type girl, but whenever she thought about herself and Lincoln she wasn't sure what they even were. They were definitely more than friend, at least that's what she thought. But they weren't friends with benefits, because they weren't exactly doing the 'benefits' part. And they most defiantly were not in an actually relationship. So, what were they? Dylan would have asked if this was the ark, and he was just some boy. But, again, Lincoln was not just some boy and this wasn't the earth.

Having the 'what are we' conversation with Lincoln right now just didn't seem too ideal for Dylan. So, she was waiting to see where things got her. That, or Lincoln would have to speak up. 'Cause she sure as hell wasn't going to.

"I wasn't on a hunting trip." He blurted. Dylan paused whatever she was busy doing, finally looking over at him.

"Okay?" Dylan said, unsure of where this conversation was headed.

"Yes." God, please not be mad.

"Then what were you doing." Dylan interrogated, her hands no longer occupied with the braid in her hair.

"I was spying." He shortly answered.

Dylan laughed. "Really? On who? If you say any other girl's name I'll get mad." The girl joked. However, the joke didn't seem to lighten up Lincoln's mood. "I was joking."

"Don't be mad when I tell you." He suddenly said. Dylan's brows quirked up in confusion.

"Yeah, no I'm not going to agree to that." She admitted, hands firmly planted on her hips. "Just tell me it can't be that bad. What did you do? Eat a baby rabbit or something?

"I was spying on the camp." Lincoln said.

     "What camp?"

     "Your people's."

"What?" Dylan gritted her teeth together. "Who was there." She demanded.

     "Dylan, listen—"

     "Who was there." She repeated.

"I wasn't there long enough to see everyone, but Bellamy and Murphy was there."

It was like everything went silent for a second. The past few weeks washed away. Suddenly her entire plan for the upcoming weeks had changed, she had other plans. Dylan froze for a minute, not moving a muscle on her body. Her breath hitched in her throat. The only thing she could think of? Murphy was alive. John fücking Murphy was alive and well. Dylan needed to find him.

Lincoln reached a hand out to touch the Kane girl's cheek, but she quickly pulled away. She spun around, grabbing a leather satchel that was resting at the corner of the room.

"What are you doing Dylan?" Lincoln asked. This was just what he was afraid of.

"I'm leaving." She shortly answered, stuffing whatever she believed she'd need for the trip into the small satchel. "I can't believe you didn't tell me."

"It's too dangerous, you're not ready?" Lincoln argued, grabbing the satchel from her.

"Give that back." She demanded angrily, reaching for the bag. With one small jump, she snatched it from his hands. "Try stopping me, you can't."

The girl disappeared around him, rushing out the door. Lincoln followed hot in her heels.

"Just sleep on it." He begged, his long strides making sure he was keeping up with her.

"There's nothing to sleep on. I need to find Murphy, and the others. You don't understand." Dylan spat. Soon enough they were in the stables.

     "I do understand—"

"You don't!" The girl interrupted. "You don't understand. Bellamy, Clarke, Murphy, Octavia? They are all my family, alright? I need to be there with them, for them. God, they probably think I'm dead! You almost had me believing they were!"

Lincoln couldn't stop the girl from climbing ontop of the horse.

"You won't make it on your own. It's to dangerous out there. You'll be dead before you're even halfway there." Lincoln argued. He was probably right, Dylan knew that. There were several threats outside of the small village. Wild animals, the mountain men, other grounders. . . But none of that mattered. Not now.

"Gee thanks for believing in me." The girl spat sarcastically. "Guess I'm aleardy dead then."

With that, the girl took off into the dark night ontop of the horse, the sounds of hooves crashing against the ground echoing. Lincoln sighed heavily, climbing ontop of his own horse.

No way in hell was he letting her do this alone.

"Are we even headed in the right direction?"

The were only two or so reasons as to why Dylan was currently putting her anger with Lincoln aside. Number one, she had no idea where this supposed 'camp' was located, but Lincoln did. So naturally he was going to be her tour guide. And number two, he had made the very much valid point that she'd probably be ending up dead without him. She still wasn't over him keeping it all from her, she wa s just hitting pause on the whole thing.

The two had been riding the horses for approximately one day. Probably less. Let's just say, riding horses was way faster then going every on foot. When Lincoln and Dylan had been headed towards the village, it had taken forever. But then again they did have to stop because of all of the mosquito bites Dylan had received.

The beautifully vibrant blue shades of the sky was like so many times before slowly easing into a darker color, signally that nightfsll was closing in on them. They had been riding nonstop since they had started. The only breaks they'd granted themselves had been to either pee, or to let the horses have a breather. They both agreed that when the night reached them they'd set up a camp and rest for the night.

Maybe it was adrenaline pumping through Dylan's veins that were keeping her from growing sleepy, but she wasn't feeling exhausted at all. The excitement of seeing her friends, and her father was the only thing clouding her mind.

"Yes, this is the right direction. Look at the surroundings. You should be able to recognize it." Lincoln said. Dylan groaned back.

"How am I suppose to recognize any of this? It's literally trees upon trees opupon trees!" The girl exclaimed. The small road they had been traveling on looked exactly the same like everywhere else they had been. The ground was covered in dead leaves and moss, the trees were tall and msgestic and it all reeked of wet soil.

"Pay attention to the details." Lincoln advised.

From there on, Dylan decided to keep her mouth shut. Instead, she let her eyes slip to the scenery around them. It was beautiful as always. Taking Lincoln's advice, the girl decided to try focusing on small details. Shockingly enough, she was starting to recognize a few things she didn't think she had noticed before.

She wasn't about to admit that to Lincoln, of course.

Dylan was feeling like an asshole. She got where Lincoln was coming from, and it probably was for the best to keep it from her for some time. Still, she absolutely hated being kept in the dark. It made her feel a scary amount of betrayal. Maybe it was all rooted back to her parents. Whenever there were problems in their marriage, they'd try their best to keep it from her. Unfortunately, it had only damaged her further.

After about an hour or so more of riding, Dylan sighed. It didn't seem like they were reaching camp tonight. Taking a break was groaning more and more tempting.

But just as the Kane girl opened her mouth to suggest it, she saw it. And it was completely flabbergasting.

Infront of her very eyes were one of the stations of the ark. Tall fences were built around it. Dylan couldn't belive her eyes. How in the holy hell was the Ark down at earth? How was any of this possible?

Excitement and nervousness was bubbling inside Dylan as they neared the camp. This was it, this was the moment she'd be reunited with everyone. She just hoped they liked Dylan unchained.
