CHAPTER FOUR
HOW TO BE A GROUNDER
"it takes two to tango"
˚✧₊*⁎⁺˳✧༚

Dylan was suprised. In a good way.

It was nearing the end of the day when Lincoln and herself had finally arrived at the village he had been telling her all about. It wasn't too big, maybe just a little bigger than the camp they had at the drop site. But the cozy little village was beautiful.

It was located just by a lake and stunningly green plains that resembled the many pictures, drawings and paintings she had seen on the ark. They stretched for miles upon miles, some covered in flowers others don't. Lincoln had to snap Dylan out of the daze she got caught in when simply staring at the astonishing scenery.

The village was by the foot of some moutain. The people there barely batted an eye as Lincoln and Dylan arrived. Of course, Lincoln had managed to alter Dylan's appearance to better fit in there. Her hair was now sporting a few braids that reminded Dylan of the ones in Anya's hair. As well as that, some dirt was smeared around her eyes to make her match Lincoln's 'make up' better. Dylan had caught a glimpse of her reflection in the water earlier on, and she couldn't deny. She looked like a freaking bad ass.

The mosquitoes bites had thankfully gone away rather quickly after the ointment had been applied. Lincoln had insisted that there was a broader variety of stuff to choose from here in the village in case something else happened. One thing he couldn't stop talking about was seeing old friends again, and how beautiful the small village was. He even mused about the market they had. It was small, but it had a suprisingly big stock.

The ground was soggy and covered with mud. Earlier on the day it had been raining. It was a feeling Dylan could never get used to. She had actually stopped just to dance around in the rain, eventually forcing Lincoln to join her. He wasn't the best dancer and he preferred to watch Dylan in all her euphoric feelings. It was like all her worries slipped away for a moment.

That's till she slipped and fell face first into a mud pool. Let's just say it ruined her vibe.

"Lincoln!" A voice soared through the air, reaching the two standing in the middle of the village. A man wearing a huge smile took of running towards them. His grin almost reached his ears as he pulled Lincoln into a tight, brotherly hug. "Long time no see."

Lincoln had only managed to teach Dylan how to introduce herself, so she had absolutely no clue what the other grounder had just told him. For all she knew, he could be telling him how she looked like a donkey.

The man, like Lincoln, was tall and strongly built. He sported a beard that was a mixture of grey and black hairs, which matched the hair ontop of his head. He looked a few years older than Lincoln, but he couldn't be older than forty.

After the two pulled away from the hug, the man let his gaze fall on Dylan. "Who's this?" Dylan looked at Lincoln for help.

Giving a slight nod, she answered. "Ai laik Dylan kom Skaikru." Her pronunciation was probably horrible, but judging by the stunned look on his face, he had understood her.

"Skaikru?" He repeated, to which she nodded. "You brought a sky girl here? What were you thinking." The smile he flaunted seconds ago was gone as he glared at Lincoln.

"She's different. We can trust her." Lincoln assured. The hardest part of getting Dylan integrated would definitely be the part where they got the others to trust her. The village had probably all had to hand off soilders to fight against these teenagers from the sky and a lot probably died. Chances were, Dylan wasn't going to be welcomed with open arms straight away.

The grounder simply gave a curt nod in response, motioning for the the two to follow them. Dylan shot Lincoln a look, following his lead.

Dylan was feeling very alone.

Ontop of missing her friends, she now had to sit on this stupid tree stump watching Lincoln surrounded by people ecstatic to seem him. Don't get it wrong, Dylan was happy for him. The way his face lit up when a new person came up to him that he hadn't seen in some time mad her heart swell. She couldn't recall seeing Lincoln this happy before, which was kind of bittersweet. Bitter in the sense that she hadn't made him that happy before.

Dylan shook her head to clear her thoughts. People were happy, jumping around and laughing. Some music were being played in the background by this guy. The music was probably traditional to the grounders because it was nothing like Dylan had heard before. They had orchestrated some type of welcoming party for Lincoln.

Dylan enjoyed watching everyone happy to see Lincoln. Nine out of ten times she too was ecstatic to see him. Back before everything went down, Dylan felt bad for him. Bellamy, Clarke and the others wasn't especially accepting of him, and he had been labeled a traitor by his own people. Here, people just saw him as Lincoln, and they were happy to have him back.

Lincoln headed over to Dylan, grabbing her hand. "Join us." He said, but it sounded more like a question. Dylan shook her head.

"No thanks." He frowned at her response. "Don't worry about me, I'm good here! You go have fun." Hesitatedly, he dropped her hand, returning to the group of people a few feet away.

Dylan had a lot of stuff to worry about. She needed to learn how to be a grounder in a short amount of time. This included acting like them, talking like them and even viewing things like them. She would have to completely change, and she wasn't going to deny that the thought terrified her. Dylan just hoped it would change her as a person beyond recognition.

The rest of the evening included more dancing, more music and more food. That part Dylan was eternally greatful for. She was starving and didn't really care if she ate like a pig. Back at camp food was barely on the table. When it was, everyone clawed some for themselves like animals. Dylan had really been affected by this.

When the food first had been served she forgot all her manners. She sprung to action, but fortunately Lincoln had grabbed her before she pounced some kid that was in her way. When it was her turn, she piled as much as she could on her plate, quickly and messily downing it all. This food was way better then that tuff meat Bellamy's hunting crew had been bringing back, that's for sure.

Lincoln and Dylan had been allowed to stay at this small wooden cabin at the very outskirt of the village. Dylan was feeling slightly nervous about staying in there completely alone with Lincoln. It wasn't like she was afraid he would do something to cross a boundary, or that this was the first time they were alone like this. It was the fact that they were both put in a warm and cozy cabin, with a comfortable bed, and Dylan was afraid of what she might do.

What if she overstepped a boundary that in turn would push him away? Sure, they have shared a kiss, but what if that was just all it was. Two people that got carried away when they saw each other alive. Dylan wasn't going to risk jeopardizing their friendship. At the moment, he was all she had. She just couldn't afford loosing him. Not now.

Dylan sat on the bed, her legs dangling off the edge. She was dressed in a 'new' set of clothes. They resembled what Lincoln was dressed in a lot. It was, after all, grounder clothes. Earlier on she had been put in a door with a tub and a cloth. It was the closest she had gotten to a shower. It felt nice to be clean and in new clothes. She hadn't changed her outfit since arriving down here.

Lincoln too was clean and dressed in new clothes. With his entire faced of all types of paints and mud Dylan could finally get a good look at him. His chiseled cheeks and incredibly sharp jawline reminded her of the Greek gods she had read about. But his soft skin and warm brown eyes made up for the harsh features. Lincoln was very. . . handsome.

"You looked like you were enjoying youself out there." Dylan started, jutting a thumb in the direction of the still on going 'party'. "Very unlike you." She joked, earning a small chuckle from the man.

"Yeah?" Lincoln slowly walked towards her.

"Yeah." She repeated, eyes locked on him. "You don't really strike me as a guy who knows how to have a good time."

Lincoln was suddenly right infront of her, close enough for Dylan to feel his breath fan over her face. The tension in the room was thick, and it made it hard to breath. Dylan kept her eyes glued to his face, not daring to let her eyes slip anywhere else. Lincoln extended his hand, letting it softly caress Dylan's cheek. A few lamps lit the room up, but the main source of light was the moonlight flowing in. It highlighted every feature on Dylan's face. Gosh, she was beautiful.

"I can have a good time." Lincoln said boldly, his face growing closer to hers by each passing second. Dylan could feel her heart skipping a few beats, her palms growing sweaty. Her body was going crazy from having him this close.

"O-oh yeah?" Damn it, Dylan thought, why the hell am I stuttering? Dylan never stuttered, ever. It sounded stupid and weak. And Dylan was anything but that.

She had no idea why having Lincoln this close to her was making her react this way. It wasn't like she had never been touched by a guy before. In fact, Dylan wasn't even a virgin. She could vividly recall how she had lost her virginity to none other then Bellamy freaking Blake. The two youngsters were each other's firsts, and had done it in a moment mixed with hormones and moonshine. Dylan hadn't exactly regretted how it all had happened, but still. Sometimes she wished it had happened on a bed of roses or something. A least in a little more romantic way than in her room in the middle of the night when none of her parents were home.

Lincoln forced the Kane girl to hold eye contact. Slowly, he moved his hand from her cheek and down to her hip. Unbeknownst to her, Lincoln was just as nervous, if not more. Shockingly, he was a virgin. All his life had consisted of constant training to be a soldier. Sure, there had been times where he could have done it, but he wanted to wait for the right moment with the right person. And Dylan was starting to feel more and more like the right moment.

When Lincoln took notice in the fact that Dylan wasn't pulling away from him, but instead gravitating closer, he took his chances. He dipped his head down. Softly, their lips met one another. It took Dylan a few seconds to respond. Soon enough their lips moved in sync against one another. Her hands slowly found their way around his neck, and with one tug he was ontop of her on the bed.

His hands safely remained on each side of her as the kiss got heavier. It felt like every little feeling that Lincoln had made her feel before was now intensified by a thousand, and he was feeling the same thing.

Okay, maybe this was more then just a little crush.

as you guys can see i will be straying away from the original story line for the sake of dylan and lincoln's relationship as well as for the sake of dylan's development. i want her story of turning more into a grounder bad ass to be more original and unique, as well as i still want to keep a certain amount of skaikru in her. for me, her just completely forsaking herself and her past just seems unrealistic and frankly is feeling unnatural. stay tuned for more my loves.
