Chapter 1
Authors Note: I'd like to dedicate this book to @Featherstar1, who gave me the idea with her Warriors fanfic books.
"Hey, Anna!" I called. "Have you read Dawn of the Clans yet?"
My best friend nodded. "Yeah! It is soo good!"
The two of us were talking about our favourite subject of all time - Warrior Cats. It was our dream to become Clan cats, and we always kept up to date with the latest warrior news.
I grinned at her. "The next one is coming out here soon, but it's already out in America and Grandma sent it over. Do you want to borrow it?"
I'm a New Yorker, but Mum moved over to New Zealand when I was one. Now, my relatives in the US always send me the latest warrior books.
"Sure thing!" Anna replied. "Tonight is going to be soo fun!" She was staying at my house for a week, while her family is away on a business trip.
"Come on, let's go into the forest until nightfall. We can play Warriors and look out for ThunderClan!" I grabbed Anna's hand and led her into the forest. I lived in a place where the surrounding countryside was nearly exactly the same as described in Erin Hunter's Warrior Cats books. The four territories around the lake. One day Anna and I went exploring for the Moonpool. We actually found something that could be it!
We played in the forest for about 2 hours, pretending to hunt and fight like warriors. Soon night began to fall, and we could see Silverpelt, the Warrior Cats name for the sky.
"Look!" Anna cried. "It's the first star!"
A thought struck me. An old memory of a rhyme that Mum had taught me when I was very little.
"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, to have the wish I wish tonight." I said. Then in a whisper, I added; "I wish I could be a warrior!"
Anna glanced at me, then repeated the rhyme. I'm pretty sure she asked for the same thing.
"Hey." I said. "Full moon tomorrow night. How 'bout we go to the island and try to watch the Gathering?"
"Sounds good." Anna agreed.

The full moon was shining brightly as we made our way to the island. We didn't see anyone, but it would still be cool exploring it at night. We crossed the tree bridge, and leapt lightly onto the island. Then the weirdest thing happened. I glanced over to Anna and opened my mouth to say something, when she started shrinking! Her hands merged into paws, and her bright blond hair changed into a silvery-grey. Then I realised that the same thing was happening to me. But instead of grey fur, I was a flame-colored ginger she-cat. "O StarClan." I whispered. How the hell had this happened? Then it hit me. The wish I made last night. I wished that we could become warriors. It came true.
Now that we were cats, I could hear voices coming from the island. The Gathering was happening. I jumped as Anna flicked her tail across my flank.
"We shouldn't go in there." She warned. I nodded. Warriors had no love for strangers.
We turned tail and raced back across the bridge. Once we got back to Twolegplace, we stopped, panting.
"What do you think happened?" I asked. Anna shook her head.
"I don't know." She answered honestly. "But how can we change back? Can we go back to your place?"
"No." I answered immediately. "Mum's allergic to cats. She's going to be frantic."
Anna nodded sagely. "I think our only chance is to join the Clans."
"But-but we might have read all about them, but that doesn't mean that we can survive a warriors life!" I protested.
"We already know all the hunting and fighting moves inside out and upside down. What more do we need to know?" Anna argued back.
I conceded defeat. "All right. But we had better change our names. They'll think we're kittypets otherwise!"
"Good idea. I'll be Sky. I think you should be Flame. It'll suit you."
"Do you really think so?" I craned my neck to get a better look at my pelt.
Anna wait no Sky nodded comfirmation. "Definitely. Now, when should we go?"
I pondered this for a moment. "We should wait for the morning."
"Good idea. We can climb a tree outside of Clan territories and make our way to ThunderClan tomorrow." Sky said.
Tomorrow morning:
"Hey, Flame, wake up!" I was woken by Sky's soft whisper. I blinked, then was suddenly wide awake. Why was I sleeping in a tree? And why was Sky a cat? Then the events of the last two days came rushing back to me. The first star, the wish, the the full moon and the island somehow triggering our transformations from human to cat. Now, they were gooing to find ThunderClan!
"Come on, lets go!" I leapt nimbly out of the tree, then stalked confidently into the forest. I paused and turned around. "Well?" I called up to Sky, who was still in the tree. "Are you coming, or not?"
"Yes, just hold on a sec, alright?!?" She shouted back.
We made our way through the forest, when a strange scent made us halt.
"Do you smell that?" I whispered. Sky wrinkled her nose.
"Yes. It smells foul. Surely ThunderClan doesn't smell like that?"
"No-"
My answer was transformed into a screech, when a russet furred shape barreled out of the trees and flung itself onto me. I could smell its hot breath, and realised that it was a fox. Uh oh. For all the games that we had played when we were humans, I didn't know how to fight a fox.
The fox bared it's teeth and snapped at my neck. I screeched and clawed at it's belly. The fox howled in pain and let go. I scrambled out from under it and raced over to where Sky was watching in horror.
"Come on, we have to go!" I urged her. We crashed through the forest, hoping to alert a ThunderClan patrol to what was happening.
"Flame! Behind you!" Sky's agonised cry reached my ears just as the fox crshed into me - again. This time, I fought it, scratching, biting and clawing for all it was worth. Then, there was a screech of fury, and Sky launched herself at the dog-like creature. "You leave my best friend alone you piece of foxdung!" She caterwauled. She crashed into the fox's side and the two of them rolled over each other. "Sky!" I called out. I raced up to help her, and slashed the fox's muzzle. The fox released Sky and turned to face me. I glanced desperately around, hoping to see a ThunderClan patrol coming to the rescue. I didn't, but I did recognise this place. It was the training hollow! Surely there were some apprentices training there right now. The fox leapt at me, and I ducked underneath it's outstretched claws and ripped it's belly open. The fox's howl of pain was abruptly cut of as it crumpled to the ground and I fastened my jaw around it's throat. The fox flailed at me with it's paws, but it's struggles got weaker and weaker until they finally stopped. I let go of the fox and stared at Sky. She was gaping at me in sheer disbelief and awe. I had just killed a fox. I opened my mouth to say something, but the words died in my mouth. The fox hadn't been alone.
Four bone-thin figures loomed up behind Sky. She turned around, and we had a sort of staring match with the foxes. Then one of them, the leader, I guessed, barked a command and the foxes surged forwards. "Run!" I yowled. We turned and fled, but the foxes were faster. Within minutes, they surrounded us. Sky and I stood back to back. "What do we do?" Sky hissed at me.
"I don't know!" I hissed back. Then came the most wonderful sound in my life.
"ThunderClan, ATTACK!!" A ThunderClan patrol burst out of the trees and attacked the foxes. Confused, and suddenly outnumbered, the foxes turned tail and ran back into the depths of the forest.
"Brackenfur, Sandstorm, Cloudtail, follow them! Cherrypaw, send a message back to camp and tell Bramblestar to send four more warriors to help them. MOVE IT!" I stared in shock at the cat that had snapped out the orders. It was Lionblaze. After Firestar, he was, like, my favourite cat in the Warrior series. And now I was face-to-face with him! O StarClan, was this really happening?!?
Lionblaze approached us. "Who are you, and what are you doing on ThunderClan territory?" He demanded gruffly. I glanced at Sky. My best friend was trembling, and she was in no state to answer questions. I dipped my head respectfully.
"I am Flame, and this is my best friend, Sky. We are looking for Firestar. My mother, Princess, was his sister." Ok, so it wasn't really true, but it was a good story and if they asked us any questions about Firestar, we would sooo be able to answer them. He was my idle!
"Firestar is dead." Lionblaze said flatly. "And you are far to young to be Cloudtail's sister. You're barely old enough to be an apprentice."
"I was part of her last litter. Mother died three moons after I gave birth, and none of my littermates survived one night. Mother's housefolk threw me out, and I met up with Sky. We've been living as rogues for three moons now. I remembered the stories Mother told me about Firestar and ThunderClan, and how they had to leave the forest and travel to the lake. We tried to retrace the pace that the Clans took. We were hunting in the forest when that fox attacked us." I flicked my tail towards the dead fox. "I killed it. Then those other four showed up. We would be dead by now if it weren't for you and the others. Thank you."
Lionblaze hesistated. "Come back to camp with us. We'll see what Bramblestar has to make of your story."
And with that, the golden colored warrior turned and stalked away. "O, and Sorreltail? Bury that fox carcass will you? We don't need it stinking up ThunderClan territory."
"Yes Lionblaze!" The tortoiseshell answered. Sky and I exchanged looks. I shrugged and started after Lionblaze.
