Chapter 1

  Grayheart woke to a white haze. Grayheart, the deputy of PineClan, walked to the entrance to the den to look out at the clan. It was sun high and he knew he had over slept. Why didn't they come to wake me up, he thought. Suddenly, he felt a tug at his tail. He turned his head with a snarl to see Mouseflower holding his tail in her jaws. " Get out of my way before I bite a piece of your tail off and eat it as if it were fresh-kill," she growled. Mouseflower never like Grayheart ever since he got in a fight with her mate from another clan. He stood out of the way and she stalked off. He followed her out and she spun around quickly and hissed," Who gave you the right to follow me, mouse-brain?" She turned in the opposite direction he was going watching him with a hostile glare. He spotted Pinestar organizing patrols. "Pinestar. You can give me my job back, that is if you want to?" He glanced at Pinestar with a nervous look. "Go back and rest. You've been working so hard, I'm giving you this day to relax." Grayheart couldn't believe what Pinestar was saying. Can he do that? Grayheart thought. He went into the medicine den to get advice from the medicine cat, Moongleam. He walked in the den and saw her sorting through the herbs. "Grayheart! What is it? Are you hurt? Do you need advice?" She glanced at him making sure of what he needed. " The second one. I need advice," he looked at the herbs and wondered what kind they were. " Of course I'll give you advice. So what kind of advice do you need?" She gave him a sympathetic look. He looked in to her green eyes and said," Pinestar gave me the day off, Isn't that against the warrior code?" She frowned and said," Pinestar is doing something nice for you, the least you could do is take it," as soon as she said that, she turned back to her herbs. He nodded in thanks and left Moongleam's den. He felt drowsy and his paws felt like stone. He was thankful his sister was the clan medicine cat. He wondered what he would do with out her. He padded over to the warriors den and went to his nest. He was tired so the least he could do is sleep.
