Chapter 22:
Gorsepaw froze, holding up her tail to stop the other's from moving forward. Her ears flicked upwards as she made sure it wasn't just her imagination taking over. She looked around to figure out who'd spoken. A milky tom padded out of a bush. His fur seemed to be all fluff, a strange item hooped around his neck, and the scent of twolegs clung to the air around him. "Stop right there!" He hissed, his fur bushing up, making him look twice his size.
"Hey... I-I'm sorry... We're just passing through..." Gorsepaw meowed apologetically.
"Passing through?" The kittypet repeated unsurely. "I don't think that—three kits and three adults—would just be passing through. To me it seems like you're looking for some housefolk!"
"What?" Gorsepaw hissed while the other's held back. "No! We're looking for the clans!" The kittypet's eyes grew as wide as moons.
"The clans? I have a friend who talks about them all the time! He claims his name used to be... Ah, yes. Shatterfoot. But his name is different, now. He's Chip—like a chocolate chip! No? You don't know what a chocolate chip is?" He asked. Gorsepaw shook her head. "Oh. Not even a chip? Like... The potatoes cook up and hardened?"
"No. I don't." Gorsepaw said through gritted teeth.
"Oh... Okay." The kittypet sighed, his tail flicking sadly. "Anyways! I'll take you to meet Chip!"
He walked through the bush he'd come in, and as Gorsepaw began to follow, Shadow stopped her by resting his tail on her shoulder. She twisted her head around as much as she could to look at him as he spoke. "Are you sure you want to follow him?" He murmured, his gaze deep with concern. Gorsepaw nodded.
"Shatterfoot—I mean Chip—might actually knew the location of the clans. And if he does, we'll get there quicker."
Shadow dipped his head. "If that is what you wish."

They walked into the twolegplace, the vast nests looming over them as the kittypet blabbered on about how he came to become a housepet.
"And then my housefolk named me Butter." He explained. "Although I don't think I look much like butter, I decided to stick with the name. It reminds me of a buttercup! One of those pretty flowers. Aha! Here we are, at Chip's home." He flicked his towards a huge twoleg nest—the biggest one yet. "I'll be waiting out here, he doesn't like visitors much."
"Okay..." Gorsepaw meowed. "You guys stay here as well... This will be a clan cat to clan cat conversation. He'll probably like me better..." She hesitated before she plunged into the darkness of the nest.
