Gorsepaw leapt away just in time as Cherry flung herself at her. The white-and-reddish-brown patched she-kit had opened her eyes barely even a day ago, and already she was running around. But... Lily, on the other hand, wasn't doing too well. She hadn't opened her eyes yet, and was practically attached to her mother, sticking by her side since the day she was born. "Get back here Gorsepaw!" Cherry squealed, skidding on a sharp turn and chasing Gorsepaw across the barn. "Hold up!"

Gorsepaw purred with amusement and glanced over her shoulder. "Not until you catch me!!!" But she slowed down just a little bit, realizing she was too fast for the newly born she-kit. Gorsepaw felt something slam into her side and blinked in surprise as she saw Lily blinking up at her with wide green eyes.

"Did I get you?" She mewled, her fur fluffed up.

"I guess you did." Gorsepaw purred, her ears twitching in surprise. Lily beamed, her tail held high above her head in confidence.

"Well... Well you won't catch me!" Lily cried after a moment of hesitation, and leapt away from Gorsepaw as the apprentice attempted to cuff the kit around the ears.

"Hey! Get back here you mouse!" Gorsepaw exclaimed, joining in the game and adding in her own touch from how she used to play with Jaypaw when they were in the nursery. A pang of sadness washed through her as she remembered her old home. Will I ever be going back to the clans? She thought, suddenly realizing that she had frozen. She blinked. Lily had ran off... Gorsepaw looked around, spotting a pair of green eyes flashing from underneath a stack of hay. Then, barely a whiskers length away, Gorsepaw saw Cherry slipping underneath the same stack of hay. Gorsepaw slunk forward, Lily seemed to be distracted by Cherry shifting in beside her. When Gorsepaw was a mouse length away, she scooped the two kits out from underneath the haystack.

"Gorsepaw!" Cherry squealed, scrambling out of her grip. "Why did you have to pull us out?"

"Sorry, Cherry... But.... You and Lily are the mice." Gorsepaw meowed, feeling the blood run up to her face.

Lily scrambled after Cherry, her gaze as bright as day. "That was really fun!" The brown specked she-kit exclaimed.

"Well, you opened your eyes just in time!" Gorsepaw purred, gazing down at the she-kit fondly.

"I did?" Lily mewled, glancing at Cherry. Gorsepaw nodded. "W-well... I thought it was time to open them..." She whispered, her tail flicking from side to side in embarrassment and joy.

Gorsepaw tasted the air... She smelt something very... Familiar.
