The musky scent of thick and sweet pine mingled with that of a light and fresh breeze, both scents incredibly alluring, giving a strange air to the thin strip of barren land. The ground was cold and lifeless yet still covered in soft moss, a barrier between two sides of the same forest. Both the same, yet so different.

To one side of the barren strip the forest was blooming. Although it was night, stars sparkled endlessly and the forest was illuminated by a soft glow. Plants stretched out in the undergrowth, plentiful and rich. A pure place, untainted and safe.

The other side was far from rich and lively. Many trees were bare, showing weathering from endless past seasons and little promise to survive the seasons to come. A heavy mist lay upon the ground which was embedded with moss and grime, the low howling of the wind sweeping through the trees, creating a cold blast.

A small sign of movement showed on both sides. From the bright padded a small black she-cat. Her head was ducked and she moved at a hurried pace, settling down just before the start of the darkness as if to not cross an invisible line. The fur along her shoulders rose as noises sounded from the darkness before her. Her frantic slivery-blue eyes scanned the undergrowth, waiting.

A large and powerful tom crept from the trees before her, the mist having hidden his black pelt. He padded up to her, his golden-amber eyes burning into hers, his powerful frame towering far above her. The she-cat straightened up as he stopped before her, both cats freezing and taking each other in. It had been a long time. Too long. Time seemed to stand still before the tom spoke.

"Wildheart." He brushed his tail along her flank.

The she-cat leaned towards him and replied, "Blacksky." Her meow was silky and hardly audible.

Both cats leaned forward and touched noses in a sweet and pure greeting.
