Silverpelt gleamed brightly overhead as yowls of agony were heard from a mossy nest. A she cat writhed in the
moss, spasms racking her body. Her gray calico pelt was ruffled. A beautiful white she- cat with gray paws slipped inside the den, eyes furrowed in concentration.

She put down a bundle of herbs. "Eat the chamomile and chervil." The white she cat urged, pushing two herbs towards the yowling she- cat. The cat anxiously swallowed the herbs, calming down. "Im ready." The calico gasped, panting.

Outside stood a russet Tom and a stocky brown tabby tom. "Tanglefur, she's gonna be fine, and so are the kits." The tabby meowed, trying to reassure the anxious tom. Tanglefur looked over at the brown tabby. "Sorry Oakstar. I'm just really worried. What if they catch greencough?" The russet Tom anxiously paced outside the nursery.

Inside the den, curled up in their mother's soft belly fur, were three kits. The calico looked up at the other she cat, purring. "They're beautiful, Snowfur." The calico breathed. Snowfur ducked her head in embarrassment. "I'm glad you're okay Dapplefur." She twined tails with her sister. "Tanglefur, come see your kits." Dapplefur croaked.

The russet Tom burst into the nursery, purring loudly. "They're beautiful!" He exclaimed. Dapplefur nuzzled one of the kits, pushing it back to suckling. "This one should be called Silverkit." She said, touching a black she cat with a silver stripe on her back.

"This one should be named Stormkit." Tanglefur added, gently poking a ginger, white, and black calico tom. Snowfur glanced down at a pretty silver she cat with black paws and a white chest.

"This one should be named Starkit, for our ancestors that blessed these kits." She murmured, eyes gleaming. Dapplefur nodded, purring. She suddenly coughed loudly, startling the kits. "They're perfect." She rasped.
