Chapter 3
That was the day my brother almost died...
Cats crashed through the bushes, attacking the cats. There was at least eight cats, including two apprentices that started circling us. One was a white tom with a dark grey tail and the other was a red she-cat.
"Looks like three Little kits walked out of camp Cherrypaw!" The white tom hissed to the red she-cat, who I assume was Cherrypaw.
"I think your right Snowpaw!" Cherrypaw hissed back, "shall we teach them a lesson?"
Snowpaw nodded and the two apprentices leapt at me and Firpaw, Snowpaw batted Firpaw down and started slashing at him, while Cherrypaw Bit my ear. I screeched and desperately bit her leg, making her leg go.
"Run Hazelpaw!" Heatherfall yowled, while battling a calico she-cat. "Go get help!"
Hazelpaw didn't need to be told twice, she instantly took off running back to camp, but Cherrypaw grabbed her, slamming her into the ground. While Cherrypaw was distracted by Hazelpaw I took off running. Fear gripped my heart, while I was nearing camp, i heard more screeches and yowls. These cats were in camp, and attacking.
"We need help!" I had yowled, three cats stopped fighting and turned to follow me, they were Stripedheart, Deadpelt and Blazeheart. I spun around, to show them were the battalions cats were, but then a white grey-bellied flung me into the side of the apprentice den. My head cracked into the ground and I blacked out.
I awoke only a few minutes later to see Blazeheart attacking the tom. My head spun, making me groan. I felt someone grab my scruff, at first I thought that it was an enemy warrior, but it was Stripedheart. He lifted me up like I was still a kit and stood me on my feet.
"Are you ok Rodentpaw?" He asked, I nodded.
"Who's that?" I meowed, pointing my tail to the white and grey tom.
"Cloudshade," he growled, "he once killed a Lightclan apprentice when he led a hunting patrol over to our side and was attacked, that's when he killed your mothers sister, Speckledpaw,"
I had heard of Speckledpaw, mum said that she was looked almost exactly like her but with green eyes. Mum said a Darkclan warrior killed her, that meant Darkclan was attacking. Blazeheart bit Cloudshade one last time and sent him running out of camp, followed by four other Darkclan warriors.
"Where is my daughter at?" Stripedheart asked.
"On the way down to Hollow Tree," I mewed, Stripedheart picked me up again and me, Deadpelt, Stripedheart and Blazeheart all run as fast as we could to where the small battle was going on. When we reached the clearing, Snowpaw and Cherrypaw were both taking on Quaildash. I looked to where Hazelpaw and Firpaw should be. I almost screamed, Firpaw and Hazelpaw were bloody messes. Hazelpaw lay, taking quick, shallow breaths, scratches littered her body, one of her eyes was closed and covered with blood. But Firpaw was worse, a large gash run across his stomach, accompanied with scratches, one of his ears were almost completely ripped off.
"Firpaw!" I had screeched. That's when they stopped fighting, Stripedheart dropped me and I scrambled over to my brother. He was still alive but losing blood. I glared at the Darkclan cats, Snowpaw was smirking, looking proud. So I attacked him, I had leapt at him, digging my claws into his back, making him screech, I bit down had on his ear, his blood flowed into my mouth, but I spat it out, disgusted. Along with blood, I also spat out half of his ear. The cats all gasped. A young apprentice who hadn't even been an apprentice for a day had ripped off an apprentices ear that had been training for five moons. He fell, we both crashed into the ground but I quickly scrambled to my feet, and held an unsheathed paw to his throat. He let out a whimpering surrender. The calico she-cat quickly crept forward and grabbed Snowpaws scruff. Then the Darkclan cats run off. With Clawedrodent and Mouseclaw chasing them. We had gone back to camp in silence, Stripedheart carried Hazelpaw and Quaildash Held Firpaw. Blazeheart and Breezesong supported Heatherfall, while I leaned against Feathercloud. My head still spun and ached.
When we got back to camp, the Darkclan cats were gone. Newly named Jaggedbone and Littlewind, the two Lightclan medicine cats, were running around camp treating cats. Littlewind run over to us and grabbed Firpaw and placed him in the medicine cat den, before grabbing Hazelpaw. I followed him in a saw him starting to chew up marigold, he spat the poultice onto his paw and stared putting it on Firpaw wounds. After that he chewed up goldenrod and placed it on, Firpaw winced. But he didn't put any on his stomach wound. As if sensing my confusion, Littlewind explained why.
"It is a risk of getting infected, and it's to deep to put any herbs on," Littlewind explained. I understood. Once Littlewind had put the cobwebs on Firpaw he turned to Hazelpaw.
"Rodentpaw, chew up that horsetail for me," Littlewind demanded, so I did. It tasted disgusting. I gave the poultice on Hazelpaws wounds and Littlewind spread them on. She winced when the juice sunk into her wounds. Littlewind put cobwebs on.
"How do you feel?" He meowed, Turning to me.
"My ear hurts," I whined, "and my head,"
Littlewind put cobwebs on my ear and other scratches.
"You'll need to stay in here for a few days with Firpaw," Littlewind meowed strictly. I groaned but obeyed.
Over the next few days, while my head healed, I wasn't allowed out of my den to even get fresh-kill! I was laying on my back, with paws in the air, batting at a loose bit of yew. I sat up when Jaggedbone entered the den.
"Good news," he said in his ragged voice, "you can go back to training today,"
"Yes!" I had yowled.
"No fair!" Firpaw growled, "how come he gets to? I'm healed enough!"
"No you aren't!" Jaggedbone hissed to him, "you can leave when your stomach is healed enough,"
I stood and left the den, smirking at my brother.
