Storytime
The kits, while condemned to the nursery, would pester their mothers for tales told throughout generations.
One such kit was Lionkit of WindClan.
"Mother, what does lion mean? Why is my name Lionkit? Am I a lion?" He would ask. Clovergrass would lean over him, her fluffy white fur tickling his nose, and lick his face.
"Such an inquisitive son I have! Well, dear.." She paused, taking in a breath and looking into the distance, wondering how to answer his questions. "Maybe the elders would know a better answer...Lions are huge, brave cats. They are our ancestors, and we respect them because we inherited all of their bravery. LionClan was an ancient clan from Long ago, full of lions. You are brave, smart , and as beautiful as a lion. You can do anything, my dear."
Clovergrass bent down to lick her son again, but touched empty air. Puzzled, she looked around. All that could be heard was the steady drip of the oily, cold rain pouring down from the sky. "Lionkit? Where are you?"
She shrieked. She practically flew out of the den, whipping her head back and forth looking around. She checked every den and asked every warrior. "Oh my, where could be be?" Marveled Sparktail.
"And the rain.." Falconburr added. "He might get sick if he stays out there for too long."
In desperation, she then checked the dirtplace, medicine den, and finally, the elders den. Clovergrass slowly walked in through the ivy clad entrance. "And then, with a roar, the Lions attacked!" Said a voice over the ignorant snores of a kit. Leafwind, an elder, sat in the corner with Lionkit curled up sleeping at her frail skinny paws. Seeing Clovergrass, she stopped and whispered, "I wondered when you would find him. He came asking for more stories, but fell asleep halfway through," she raised her mew, "The epic battle of LionClan and LeapardClan!"
"Story!" Lionpaw squealed. "More stories!" Clovertail stifled a purr as he pranced around the elders den.
"Keep it down! This elder needs his sleeping, and I can't when a kit's prancing all over my muzzle!" Said a voice beneath his paws.
"Sorry Volerush." Lionpaw said. "I just wanted to hear another story about the first clans, LeopardClan, LionClan, and all the rest. Leafwind was just.."
"Poor kit, no wonder you fell asleep." Volerush pitied. "Want to listen to a real battle story?"
"Yay!" Lionkit shrieked.
Leafwind purred. " If it's okay with you, I'm sure Lionkit would like to stay for stories."
Clovergrass sighed. "I thought I lost him. But as long as he is safe right here in the elders den, I'm fine with it."
She watched for a moment as Volerush demonstrated a battle move for Lionkit with red fur parting and shifting. "Just make sure he doesn't get too riled up."
