Chapter 5
With careful steps, Kingston approached his target. He focused his eyes on the red pouch hanging from the waist of the man. Once he was close enough, he grabbed the pouch in a quick move and started walking away briskly.
"Where are my coins?" the man's cry came.
"I saw that kid take it away," someone in the crowd replied.
Kingston turned back to find someone pointing at him.
"You give it back, little thief!" the man shouted, giving him a chase.
Realising the danger, Kingston started pushing past the crowd hurriedly to escape. However, very soon, everyone was alerted about him.
With no other option to do, Kingston quickly climbed up a stall, ignoring shouts from the owner, and jumped up to the roof of a building from it.
The man he had robbed eyed Kingston with a glare in eyes as he jumped to the roof of next building. The man had given up hopes of catching Kingston.
Kingston might have managed to disappear but all of a sudden, an arrow planted itself to his legs. The pain was too much for him to bear. His eyes started shutting down and he slipped off the roof.
The fall would have broken all his bones, if not killed him. However, a pair of hands stopped that from happening.
As his vision started to clear up, Kingston found himself surrounded by guards. His reflexes immediately made him get up and try to escape but a kick on his leg stopped that from happening.
Groaning in pain, Kingston looked up to see a well-armoured man standing in front of him. He wore a red cape bearing the symbol of Lamitan Kingdom.
Being a thief, Kingston was well aware of everything about his area. He knew the man standing in front of him was the captain.
"Listen here, little boy. My men are getting tired of chasing you rats. I know you belong to a guild. So, I have an offer for you. If you lead my men to your guild, I'll let you live," the captain said.
"What if I don't?" Kingston replied.
The captain bought his boots to the neck of Kingston.
"Boy, you will die too young if that happens," the captain warned.
"I'll lead you there,"
"Glad we came to an understanding," the captain helped Kingston get up, "You lead us there now. We'll be following you from close behind. Try to do something and the next arrow will go straight to your neck."
In a situation like that, Kingston had no other option but to do as the captain said. He led them to a slum area in Lamitan where the biggest structure was an old looking mansion having a huge door and tall walls to hide the courtyard from the outside world.
Kingston gestured the captain to hide as he knocked at the gate of the mansion. A boy of his age opened the gate slightly and peeped at him through it.
"Is nobody around?" he asked.
"Yes," Kington replied.
The boy opened the gate a bit more for Kingston to enter. However, as soon as Kingston entered, he knocked down the boy with a punch and opened the gate wide for the Captain and his guards to enter.
In front of the old broken mansion was a huge courtyard in which many other kids like Kingston were sitting. Their master, Berda, was also there, training the kids to steal.
As soon as the guards stormed inside, chaos spread across the courtyard. The kids tried to run away but had nowhere to escape. Finally, everyone inside the courtyard was caught. The master received the worst treatment. He was kicked on his face five times before getting dragged by the guards.
As Berda was dragged away, he locked eyes with Kingston. "I raised you when there was nobody left. I fed you, boy. This is how you chose to repay me?"
"Quiet," the guards kicked him once more. However, the message had already reached Kingston. He watched as the guards took away all the people he called his friends.
"You did good, kid," the captain punched Kingston on the face with steel gauntlets, making his nose bleed.
"Guards! Take him with others!" the captain commanded.
Kingston refused to give up. He kicked the nearest guard to him, got up hurriedly and dashed away. He had betrayed those who trusted him and met with the same fate.
While other Siligon Warriors preferred horses, Kingston had no use of them. Why use a horse when you can run faster on foot?
Running through the jungles, it didn't take him a long time to reach the Rehena.
It was not even half as impressive as Lamitan and Mayton. However, it was pretty in its own way. The lack of beautiful views Rehena had was compensated by beautiful people.
After her husband had been killed in the Great War, Queen Pheeona became the first-ever female ruler in the entire land. When she took the crown, Rehena was on the verge of getting defeated. However, with her taking the command, Rehena managed to survive the Great War. She was famous for being the kindest ruler in Siligon.
While Kingston had visited Rehena a lot and admired it greatly; something about it was different that day. The beautiful thing about Rehena was the harmony in which the people live. Fights and revolts took place there too but quite less compared to other kingdoms. However, the streets of Rehena weren't populated that day. Those few people who were outside were avoiding conversations with each other and on alert at all times.
The instructions he had received were to head to Queen Pheeona's palace and Kingston decided to stick to that.
The crystal blue walls of the huge palace with a high tower protruding from it and the floral flags that hung from all windows used to be the busiest area in Rehena. However, no crowd could be seen that day.
The guard recognised Kingston immediately and granted him access inside.
"Queen Pheeona is waiting for you in her garden," the guard said to the Siligon Warrior.
The garden in front of the beautiful palace was famous for having the rarest flowers in all land. Flowers in all shapes and colours could be seen there.
Kingston spotted Queen Pheeona and her commander standing upon a small bridge above a lake and discussing matters.
"Hello, Siligon Warrior," the queen said as soon as she spotted Kingston. "Meet Reba. She leads my army."
The queen looked like a fairy, dressed in a beautiful white dress and having curly hairs. In contrast, Reba had brown skin and her hairs were tied into a ponytail. She was dressed in heavy armour.
Siligon Warriors never bowed to anyone. However, Kingston chose to give a bow to the queen.
"Two days ago, I made a policy in my kingdom to reduce the tax that our lower class was forced to pay to the upper class. The lords weren't happy with it. They are paying the lower class now to revolt against the very same law made for them. Thus, the lords have raised an army of innocents. I tried to talk them down but yesterday they attacked a market and killed so many people there. After thinking about it, I have come to the conclusion that, even though they are innocent, it's best to kill them and end this rebellion before more innocents join," Pheeona explained.
"They are holding that market. Your orders are to go there and kill them," Reba said.
"Got it," Kingston replied.
His inhumane speed allowed Kingston to reach the market within a matter of a few seconds.
At the intersection of many lanes, the market was a huge area with many stalls. It was barricaded from all sides.
An army of more than fifty soldiers had occupied the market. Half of them were on patrol while the other half took a rest.
"Intruder alert! It's a Siligon Warrior!" the guards spotted Kingston almost immediately. Immediately, the entire army inside the market was alerted of the Siligon Warrior outside.
A volley of arrows was launched at Kingston. However, his speed allowed him to escape them easily.
Kingston easily jumped up the barricade and entered the market area, killing an archer in the process. The entire army regrouped in front of Kingston.
Kingston smiled, adjusted the hood on his head, and charged at the army. He tore through an entire army line, killing them within a blink of an eye.
"He's too strong," one of the soldiers said.
"Scatter and then charge at him together," another commanded.
The rest of the army obeyed commands. While the tactic was the best possible way against a Panther, it still wasn't enough against Kingston.
Everyone who approached Kingston got a taste of his sword. Kingston's fighting skills were simply too much against a poorly trained army. Very soon, half of the army was killed and the other half regrouped once again.
"You guys stand no chance," Kingston smirked.
The army still refused to give up. They attacked Kingston together once again in unison.
Kingston unleashed his special move, spinning around with the sword in hand. The army was badly slaughtered against Kingston's spinning blade. The remaining army was killed within seconds. It was another victory for the Leader of Panthers.
With three more successful missions, it was time for Kingston to return back to the Camp. However, when he did, he found it completely empty except for Godag and Lousia.
"Oh, Kingston! Thank god you're here!" Godag exclaimed.
"Something wrong?" Kingston asked.
"It's Gabriel. He met his end at last. And Kraigan has another news to share with us."
