Part 8: Comfort
Sandstorm padded into camp, no sign of the argument between her and Oceanheart in her expression. She dropped her fresh-kill into the pile. Cloudtail was already there, but he was whispering something to Dovewing, but Sandstorm paid no attention to it. Until she saw Dovewing glaring at her as Cloudtail padded to Firestar's den. Sandstorm waited for him to leave before she could go in and greet her mate. Once Cloudtail left, she started heading to the leader's den, but before she could, Firestar emerged from his den, jumped up onto High Ledge, and called a meeting.
"Cats of Thunderclan, Cloudtail had just informed me about an argument between Oceanheart and Sandstorm, which lead to Oceanheart running away in tears" he began, the cats from below started yowling in anger,"I will send a patrol to go look for her, and bring her home." he continued.
"Why should we go look for her? She'll just get in the way!" it was Ivypool,"She's just a mouse-brained kittypet, who doesn't even deserve to be in this clan!" murmurs of agreement rose from the crowd. Firestar was getting angry, he cared about Oceanheart, how dare Ivypool to insult her like this! He jumped down from High Ledge.
"If no cat will volunteer to join the patrol, I'll go myself!" he meowed, shocked meows came from the cats around him, "Brambleclaw, lead the Clan while I'm gone." Brambleclaw nodded. Firestar headed for the gorse tunnel and left the camp.
*Time skip*
Firestar was getting tired, his pads were sore and he was getting weaker. He thought he will never find Oceanheart, and was worried about her, what if she got hurt by an enemy patrol or worse. The sun was setting and it hid behind the trees. Firestar started heading back to camp, until he heard a faint mew, like crying, beside the lake. He followed the sound and recognize the beautiful brown tabby pelt. Oceanheart! She was sitting by the shore of the lake. Her head down and tail wrapped around her paws. Firestar padded toward her and sat beside her.
"Oceanheart?" he mewed. Oceanheart looked up at her leader, "Firestar?" she gasped, "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you, why did you run away?" he asked. Oceanheart looked down at her paws, "I'm sorry, it was so kit-like of me, I just couldn't bear listening to Sandstorm anymore, she told me that I was better off being hit by a monster on the Thunderpath and-" her voice trailed off, Firestar was getting worried. Did something happen to her on the Thunderpath? The moon was beginning to rise above the trees.
"It reminds me of my brother, Comet." Firestar looked at her, "He-He was ran over b-by a monster on the Thunderpath near my old kittypet home, I will n-never forget that horrible day." fresh tears formed in her eyes, and she broke down, crying. Firestar felt bad for her, she had lost her brother to those monsters, he remembered his first apprentice, Cinderpelt, she was hit by a monster, and was unable to become a warrior. She became a medicine cat, but died a warrior.
Firestar placed his paw on top of hers, to comfort her. She looked at him in surprise, and smiled. She had this new feeling for him, ever since the day she met him.
"Oceanheart, remember, your brother may be gone, but I'm still here along with the rest of the Clan." Firestar's emerald green eyes stared into Oceanheart's beautiful sapphire ones. Oceanheart blushed, as well as Firestar. Their tails entwined and eyes locked on each other. The cool evening breeze ruffled their pelts. Oceanheart finally figured out the feeling she feels, love. She gave Firestar a quick lick on the cheek and rested her head on his broad shoulder.
"I love you, Firestar." she mewed.
"I love you, too, Oceanheart." Firestar replied, "Will you be my mate?"
Oceanheart was excited, Firestar asked her to be his mate! She opened her mouth to say yes, but she remembered what Sandstorm said, "But, what about Sandstorm, she's your mate." Firestar frowned.
"We'll keep this as a secret from her." Oceanheart thought about this for a bit, keeping a secret from the Clan? Is that the right thing to do? She looked up at him, "Yes, I'll be your mate, Firestar." they smiled at each other, it was moonhigh now. Oceanheart got this idea.
"Hey, Firestar?" she mewed, "How about we sleep here tonight and head back to camp, in the morning?" she asked.
"Yes, that sounds good." they curled up next to each other and fell asleep, with their new lives as mates.
