------------------------------------------------
Backstory (I haven't finished my plan yet so it will be unfinished. Bullet points because, effort man).
- Born to Rainpetal with a mutation that made her mute, brought on by an accident when Rainpetal hurt herself from grief as Duskstorm was exiled and he murdered Redhawk
- The story ignores her kithood, but it is implied that she has always been separate to her brother, Birchpaw and her friend Flickeringpaw. Birchpaw attempts to throw half-hearted insults, but he can't keep it up for long and Flickeringpaw always scolds him for it.
- Softpaw, Birchpaw and Flickeringpaw become apprentices together, Birchpaw's mentor is Puddlespirit, a kind young warrior, while Softpaw is apprenticed to Blackfeather, a bitter and stoic tom who only wants to train Softpaw for the glory of making her like Mouseflame, a skilled and fierce warrior she-cat.
- Softpaw is forced to endure Blackfeather's hellish training, where he only softens for a few moments. During one training session, Puddlespirit runs to them to tell them that Duskstorm is attacking the camp with his rogues, and they sprint back.
- Blackfeather orders Softpaw to stay with the kits, and she shows good comforting skills and kindness, managing to calm them down enough to hide their cries from a grey furred rogue outside.
- Birchpaw doesn't appreciate her efforts calling her a coward. Softpaw wonders why he's so angry, until she sees her mother's blood covered body on the ground. Duskstorm confronts his kits, revealing his parenthood to them. Softpaw is overwhelmed and collapses, quickly being rushed away by Rosepool, the medicine cat.
- In her dream, Softpaw sees her mother in StarClan, and to her surprise she is able to talk in this vision, and desperately tries to babble out everything she's been desperate to tell her mother all of her short life. Rainpetal smiles and silences her, saying she knows everything her daughter is going to say. She sends her back into the waking world with advice to always stay true to who she is.
- Birchpaw has an argument with Duskstorm about his selfishness and cruelty, attempting to attack the tom before Rattlestar attacks him himself, Hailpelt helping to chase the tom and his remaining rogues out of the camp. Softpaw wakes a few days later, with the camp now treating her and Birchpaw with both some sympathy and some suspicion.
- Duskstorm and his rogues are seething over their defeat, but are optimistic about Thunderclan's lower numbers. He believes his 'new' kits are nothing compared to Blizzardflare, and decides they deserve no sympathy, truly having lost his mind.
- Softpaw now has no mentor, with Blackfeather refusing to train her. Rosepool offers her a position as a medicine cat, but the she-cat isn't interested and instead resorts to sitting around miserably, trying to feel useful and failing.
- Rattlestar cannot find a mentor for her and gives up by dawn.
- The next day, the clan find their defences ruined and entrances half broken. Someone loudly announces that a cat may be spying on them, and their accusations start flying, mostly pointing to Softpaw. Waveflower and Rosepool comment that she couldn't possibly give the information if she can't speak, but they are ignored by the angry cats. Softpaw is then exiled, being declared a burden anyway.
- The she-cat unhappily wanders the forest, knowing she'll be dead soon if she doesn't find a way of fending for herself. She falls asleep in the middle of nowhere, before waking up to a grinning face of a grey and white she-cat with yellow eyes called Spark.
- Spark tries to ask her questions, but the she-cat points to her throat, and Spark realises her muteness, before giving a long monologue about her great great great great grandfather's muteness and Softpaw nearly falls asleep again to the babbling she-cat's words. Spark snorts with laughter, and offers her a place to stay out of kindness. Softpaw is reluctant at first with Duskstorm's tyranny surrounding the area, but she eventually agrees out of desperation.
- Spark takes her to a warm, hollowed out tree, and night soon closes in. Spark talked to Softpaw all day long, never seeming to get tired by the lack of response. Softpaw gapes, no-one had ever been so friendly to her, apart from Flickeringpaw. Spark grins at her expression, before announcing they should sleep. She curls up uncomfortably close to the she-cat who tingles with embarrassment. Spark continues grinning, making a point of tucking herself into the she-cat's side. Spark doesn't know her name, so she resorts to calling her 'Feather,' for her fur.
- The she-cats enjoy the peace of the forest, bonding as Spark begins to learn Softpaw's subtle ways of communicating, while Softpaw enjoys Spark's friendly nature. They have tranquillity for a few moons, with Softpaw beginning to feel a tingle in her chest every time she's with Spark. The following night, instead of Spark tucking into her side, Softpaw moves first, surprising the she-cat, who then smiles. 'I've never met anyone like you Feather.'
- They wake to horrible screeching, Softpaw realising it is ThunderClan. They are being brutally attacked by Duskstorm's rogues, and she blindly runs towards the camp in horror. Spark races after her, impressing the ex-apprentice with her fighting skills as she defends the she-cat. Spark realises this must be Softpaw's home, and promises to help her, knowing some cats who could help. Spark takes her to a street alley, where many cats welcome Spark warmly. She asks them to fight, to which they ask for a reward. Spark offers them her secret hunting stash she's been sharing with 'Feather' and they greedily agree to fight.
- The large amount of cats go back to the ThunderClan camp, outnumbering Duskstorm and his rogues. They aren't welcomed by the TC cats, but continue to fight, the hope of food rather than being constantly skinny in their minds. Eventually they overpower the rogues, saving Rattlestar in the process, while losing a few cats. The street cat leader is devastated by the loss of his brother, and they stop fighting, fleeing into the forest. Duskstorm threatens Softpaw and Birchpaw again, but Hailpelt rushes in and kills the tom himself.
- The Clan ask who Spark is, to which the she-cat replies she is 'Feather's' friend. The cats snort, saying her name is 'Softpaw,' and she was a 'filthy spy.' Spark growls at them, asking if a spy would defend their clan, as Softpaw had been copying Spark's fighting moves throughout the battle. They seem ashamed, and offer to let Softpaw back into the clan. She refuses with a shake of her head, gesturing to Spark.
- Rattlestar seems to understand, insisting she have a warrior ceremony first. She gestures to Spark again, and the cats seem outraged at the idea of giving a loner a sacred ceremony. Rosepool reminds the clan how they help, and the cats reluctantly agree.
- Softpaw is named Softfeather after her kindness and Spark's nickname for her. Spark is named Sparkflame for her fierce nature. The two then flee the clan together, leading a peaceful life in the woods, far away from the clans. Birchpaw isn't too devastated by his sister leaving, but he visits every once and a while. The two she-cats eventually become mates, and live hassle-free.
I know, 'boo' a happy ending and a little rushed, but I'll develop it later as its not really the full story, just a quick summary. More happens in between.
