Chapter 19
I really do wonder if this plot actually makes sense. -S
John's POV
I watched Eliza run and turned away from the entrance. I pushed past everyone and slunk into the den. I tried to make Eliza see reason, but I failed. I sank into my moss nest and stared at the bramble wall of the den. Alex came in a few seconds later. He sat next to me and rasped his tongue over my ear. "It's alright, John, it isn't your fault." He soothed. The last thing I remembered before slipping into unconsciousness is his rough tongue rasping my ear. I snapped open my eyes to find a white and brown tom sitting in front of me. Everything surrounding us was black with red mist rising from it. The cat had a red aura surrounding him and he stared at me through narrowed eyes.
"Well, if it isn't my fag son." He sneered. Only one cat would call me that.
"Dad?" I asked uncertainly. He bared his teeth in a snarl.
"I disowned you a long time ago, fag! You have no right to call me 'father'." He hissed. I felt the fur on my hackles bristle, but I tried to relax and correct myself.
"My apologies, Henry." I jeered. I sat on the hard ground and took the time to get a good look at my surroundings. "Where are we exactly?" I asked, suddenly curious. He flicked his tail.
"Hell." He replies simply.
There was a knowing glint in his eyes that made my pelt prickle with unease. "Did you do something to Eliza?" I asked suddenly. His whiskers twitched in amusement. "What did you do to her!" I screeched. He suddenly began to fade. "No! Come back here and answer me!" He continued to fade into nothingness and only the amber glow of his eyes and his scent lasted for a heartbeat longer before disappearing completely. Suddenly, something jabbed my side. It repeatedly jabbed me until my eyes snapped open to find Alex's paw prodding my side.
"A-are you alright, John?" He asked, concerned. "You were screaming about Eliza and someone named Henry in your sleep, is something wrong?" I stared at him in thought, wondering whether I should tell him or not.
"I dreamt that I was with my father. He said we were in hell. I think he knows something about Eliza sudden behavior, but he disappeared before he answered me." I said all in one breath.
"Did he hurt you?" He asked, sniffing me over.
"I'm fine you furball. Why do you care so much anyway?" I asked, only half-joking. He stopped sniffing me and sat directly in front of me. He opened and closed his jaws a couple times before he said something.
"It's because I love you, John. More than just a friend. I care about you. Eliza is just jealous, and jealousy can drive people to do stupid and dangerous things." He murmured. "Yet, love is like that as well. Love can also drive you to do stupid or dangerous things for the one you love and care about. Believe me, I know from experience." I stared at him in shock. He actually cares?! Mouse-dung. Why was I so oblivious!? "I-i do too." I stuttered. His whiskers twitched in amusement and he tapped my nose before slipping out of the den. "It's dawn, John." Alex called as he disappeared through the entrance of the den. Connor, Evan, Jay, Laf, and Herc weren't here. They're probably outside already. I stood up, stretched, and shook scraps of moss from my pelt.
I slipped out of the den and spotted Connor working with Evan. They're cute together. Connor had a live mouse pinned under his paw and was explaining something to Evan. Peggy was going around, checking everyone for injuries. Aaron and James sat murmuring by the prey pile. I padded over and selected a plump mouse, settling down near Peggy's den. Soon after I had began eating the mouse, Alex padded out of her den and sat next to me. "Hey." He said, rolling his shoulder.
"Hey. Is your shoulder alright?" I mumbled through a mouthful of mouse. He nodded and rolled unto his back.
"Washington wants us to bury the cats in a few minutes. Dawn has to stay here, but she wants to pay her final respects to them." He said, yawning. I nodded and gulped down the rest of my mouse. Dawn lay by the bodies, pressing her nose into each cat's cold fur. Once she had finished, she limped over to us and gave each of us a solemn nod. Herc and Laf came over to us, Jay trailing behind. "Ready?" Alex asked.
We all nodded and padded to the bodies. Washington stood by the bodies, looking grim. He saw us and flicked his tail toward the bodies. Alex picked up Midnight by the scruff and dragged the body towards the entrance. Washington grabbed Moonrise's body and dragged her over to Alex. Eventually, we were trekking through the forest, Jay was trailing behind, making sure we were brutally attacked by Thomas and his cronies. We came to a spot where the soil was soft, perfect for digging. Herc and I dug two holes while Laf and Alex worked on another two. Jay dug one by himself while Washington glanced around, sniffing the air every few seconds. Once we had finished, we dragged the bodies and put one in each hole.
We covered them with earth and sat for a moment to mourn. Washington stood and beckoned us back to camp. We ran through the forest and slipped through the entrance of camp. James, Aaron, and Angelica just padded past us and slipped out of camp. "Patrol." She whispered to Washington. He nodded and they leaped into the forest. Once we got back to camp, we dispersed into little groups. Alex stretched out in a patch of sunlight and went over to the prey pile. I dropped a vole at his paws.
"You need to eat, 'Lex." I said, motioning to the vole. He nodded and gulped it down. I do wonder where Eliza got off to.
Charles' POV
I like Samuel, he's kinda than most of the cats around here. I sat next to him as he slept. I have patrol in a few minutes, I better get going. I got up carefully, trying desperately not to wake him up. But, that failed once he shot open his eyes and stared at me. "Where are you going, Charlie?" He asked, yawning. Charlie, I like it.
"I-i have the dusk patrol." I murmured. "Go back to sleep." Samuel nodded and licked my nose before tucking his nose under his paw and quickly falling asleep. I stood rigid with shock. He likes me?! What!? I shook my head and decided to ask him about it later. I spotted George staring at me with narrowed eyes. "Hello, George." I mewed respectfully. If he saw me and Samuel, he showed no sign of it. He nodded and beckoned me to the entrance. He opened his jaws to speak, but was interrupted by another fit of coughing. Why won't you let me help you? He spat out a couple clots of blood and cleared his throat before moving to speak again.
"Thomas will definitely hear of this." George threatened before padding back to his den. I stared after him, fear shooting through me. Just then, Thomas padded into camp with a cream colored she-cat trailing behind him.
"Charles, this is Eliza. You'll show her around our territory on your dusk patrol." Thomas ordered. I nodded and flicked my tail for Eliza to follow me. I slipped through the entrance and into the dark forest.
"I'll show you around again at dawn tomorrow. That way, you'll see our territory in daylight." I sighed. She nodded. I showed her the best hunting spots and the borders. I remarked the borders and we headed back to camp. There, George sat with a smug look on his face and Thomas looked enraged. I sent Eliza to the den with the she-cats and tried to slip away unnoticed.
"All cats gather here for a meeting!" Thomas yowled loudly. Drowsy faces poked out of the dens and one by one, everyone had gather near Thomas. He beckoned Samuel and I forward. "I heard you were performing gay gestures, even though you know how much I love gays." He snarled. "Are you two in love or something?" He said, almost laughing. We shared a glance and we slowly answered.
"Yes." We said in unison. Thomas sank his claws into the ground.
"Leave. Leave and never return. I never want to see your fag faces again." Thomas spat before whisking away.
"I'm going with them." Maria mewed, padding up to me and Samuel.
"Y-you don't have too." Samuel mumbled. Maria shook her head.
"I'm coming." She said, more certain than before.
"Me too." Hamilton sighed.
"And me." Martha said, smiling.
"You aren't leaving, Maria!" Reynolds screeched. Samuel and I ran through the entrance of camp and dodged trees in the forest. Maria, Martha, and Hamilton were hard on our paws. Reynolds, George, and Thomas were right behind them. I slowed my pace until I was directly behind Martha. Then, I kicked my hind paws at Thomas and sent him flying into a tree. George raced over to where Thomas lay, dazed. Reynolds snarled at me while backing towards Thomas. He whipped around and ran. Samuel and the others had disappeared into the trees, but their scent hung heavy in the air.
I raced down the path they had took and found them waiting underneath a large ash tree. Samuel leaped up when he spotted me and purred loudly. "Where are we going to go?" Martha asked. I licked a paw and drew it over my ear in thought.
"We could go to the other side of the forest. There's another group of cats there we can join." I said. Everyone murmured their agreement and we set off in the direction of Washington's territory.
Eliza's POV
It was good if Thomas to get rid of those fags when he could. I'm sure those who followed the fags are fags too. You will have your revenge soon, Eliza. Thomas and his cats want revenge just as much as you do. The voice murmured. But, you'll need to go with Thomas to recruit more cats to destroy them with. I'll help. I smiled at the thought of having a fag's throat in my claws.
A longer chapter for you guys. Thanks so much for reading! Also, if you have group names for the two groups, please comment what they are. The one I like best will be used in the book. -S
