Today was the day she would leave her twoleg nest. She had to or else she would starve. Without waving goodbye to Socks, Mittens dashed over the fence and ran into the woods. She could hear leaves crunch beneath her paws as the unfamiliar smell of the damp forest air filled her nostrils. Light peaked through the trees like a spotlight at a disco. The forest was dappled with Autumn hues. She glanced around in awe - it was beautiful. As she trotted further into the woods, the sounds of prey scuttling through the leaves overwhelmed her. Sniffing she could pin point a mouse, she ran after it in a very ungraceful manner and leaped at the prey missing it by miles and thumping onto the floor. "This is going to be challenging" she mumbled to herself
Padding deeper into the forest she sniffed again not catching any scent. Groan. She flopped down on the leaves tired and hungry, until she sniffed out a unfamiliar scent. It was strong, very very strong. Fuelled by hunger, Mittens ran after the strong aroma; it smelled fresh she was lucky. As she came closer and closer to her prey, she began to become desperate running through the leaves. They rustled. The wind whistled in her ears. Her tail streaming behind her. A white fluffy tail poked out of the bushes. She pounced on it's tail. A load snarl was heard from the other side as a face poked through the bushes.
It's face was triangular, it had a long snout and eagle eyes. It glared down at Mitten's eyes staring down full of hunger and anger. Oh no. It was a fox!
She shuffled backwards as the fox closed in. Snarling and growling. Terrified she turned around and ran her bell jingling furiously. She glanced behind her she was only about a tail length in front of the fox.
Bam! She fell. Into the thorns. Her pelt was stuck in the claws of the thorn bush. She writhed and squirmed but she couldn't free herself. The fox began to close in.
