Chapter 8 Preview

"Hello?" Oakstar yowled into the endless forest surrounding him. "Yellowflower? Birchpaw? Blue? Any cat?"
"Hello, newly initiated Oakstar." A calm voice meowed. "Do not fear me, for I am one of StarClan. My name is Silvereyes." The Tom meowed.
"Alright then. Why have you called me here then, oh StarClan cat?" He said, using a more polite tone.
"No need to address me royally," Silvereyes sighed. "My days of that are long over. I am merely here to show you your enemies and why they have acted so harshly when they were happy in the beginning. However, I do not show you all. That is nigh impossible."
A small white she cat stood on a huge rock overlooking a river. She looked down at a massive group of cats that pooled beneath her to listen to her words.
"The traitors have rebelled!" She screeched." So, my cats, we must be prepared for the worst. These loners will kill us all!" Gasps of dulled shock echoed around the camp.
"Now, Troutstar and my mother have spoken. They are now officially mates, and that makes me next in line for leader. Any oppositions?" No cat opposed her, not even by a twitch of a whisker. Until, that is, a silver tom marched up to her and declared, " Rosepaw! What is the meaning of this? Troutstar, not you, is the leader of this clan!"
Oakstar looked at the Tom, studying his unique milky white eyes. It took him a while to realise the cat was blind. When he did, he frantically looked around at the other cats. They had eyes, all right. Eyes glazed over with an indifference that ran ripples through Oakstar's pelt. What is wrong with these cats?
Rosepaw glared at him. Then she bared her teeth and said sweetly in a whisper as she itched closer to him, "Not anymore. Not anymore, Silvereyes. Troutstar, daddy, kill him." Oakstar could only look on in horror as Troustar's glazed eyes narrowed with barely recognised anger. Padding forward, he took one swipe at the Tom's throat, and then he was on the ground, blood pooling around him. Choking, he said, "I know who you are Rosepaw. White as snow and drunk on power. You are a..." Troutstar slashed at him again, and he died in seconds. Blood pooled around his huge claws.
"She is a what?" Oakstar would have screeched if he wasn't busy enough watching the she cat jump back up on the rock.
"As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted," Rosepaw said as Dewmint started to drag the body away.
"No no no!" She screeched again. "Put that down." Her mother's glassy eyes told Oakstar that she was controlled too.
"Tonight, we slayed a traitor in out midst. Good job, father, I suppose I should say. But tonight, we have succeeded. We shall feast upon the flesh of our enemies!" Rosepaw stepped down again as Dewmint, Troutstar, and her began to nibble away at the carcass.
"Tonight, we show great loyalty to me- I mean, to RiverClan!"
Oak was too busy throwing up in disgust to see more. What have I just seen? This StarClan cat.. he was killed recently! This is the Silvereyes!"
, why was I shown this... abomination?"
"Because we StarClan cats have no idea why they act this way or what has happened, but we do know- only BranchClan can stop it before this spreads to every cat and we turn to a dark age of cannibalism and endless slaughter." This echoed around in Oakstar's head for a while before the black dust of sleep caught him unaware.
Oakstar woke to the sound of Bluefeather's claws clicking against the side of the Monster he was sleeping in.
"Can I come in, Oakstar?" She asked, seeing that he was awake.
"Of course." He was troubled by the dream, and wanted someone to talk to, so Bluepaw especially was welcome to pull him out of the depths of this thoughts.
"Birchpaw wants you to give a naming ceremony today, " She said. Oh. She's not here just for me. Of course.
"For whom, may I ask?"
"Sootkit. He had reached six moons when we arrived, but never got the proper ceremony in the events that followed. Um... Oakstar, are you okay?"
"Fine,"He muttered, leaping down from the dampened, black fur that Twolegs used to line their monster's stomachs. It didn't bother Oakstar much, and he made sure all those wary cats were assured that the monsters were dead and would never wake up and run away with them inside. However, many of his cats from the original clan wanted to sleep in brush dens they had made, and he had no objection to that.
"And yes, Bluepaw, I will name this cat." And a couple more, too. It had been at least a moon after the cats had come to him for help, and he was glad to say that he had most everything sorted out. Really, his Deputy, which he had chosen to be Ivyfoot, since she had previous experience, would have to do the most.
Walking out into the clearing he quickly jumped atop a shining barrel and called his variation of what Birchpaw had told him to say. "May all cats old enough to hunt prey and move rubble gather to hear my words!" As his cats quickly surrounded him, he felt a strange protectiveness and pride for them. He saw Larkfoot and Patchtail quickly groom Sootkit and nudge him nearer to the barrel, eyes shining with love.
"Today..." Oakstar hesitated. What were the lines again? Distracted, he rushed on, "I now name you as Sootpaw." Birchpaw, who was sitting close to the barrel, grimaced, and Oakstar remembered some more.
"And your mentor will be Yellowflower." The creamy she cat's chest inflated with pride. Birchpaw backed behind Oakstar and whispered, "Now have them touch noses." This is harder than I thought. Does Birchpaw even know what he is doing?
After completing the ceremony to Birchpaw's satisfaction, he then called, "Birchpaw." Birchpaw huffed angrily. "I suppose I didn't do that right, but it is fine. Now, I name
