Chapter 6

Bluepaw stood up and stretched her legs. She yawned and headed outside of the den, where the night was as black as a crow's feather and the only sounds came from her paws. Padding out further to the center of the clearing, she looked up at the sky, praying and complaining to whatever deities these cats worshipped. I miss the old, raggedy pelt camp. I miss Oak. I miss all my old friends, and yet I've come further than any of them with a cat I barely know. Birchpaw, you got me into this mess, and you will help me get out.
Sprinting back into the den, she promptly pushed Birchpaw until he arose from his slumber.
"What do you want?" He groaned. "It's too early, and we have training to do tomorrow."
"Come with me." Bluepaw nudged him to his feet and away from the silent clearing into a clump of bushes that would obscure even a pure white cat. Birchpaw sat down on his tail, wildly spun around, and laughed.
"I'm not good at the whole 'balance' thing." He joked.
"It's fine. But I'm afraid one of the cats already recognized me. That Rosepaw- does she have a father?"
"In the clan? No. But apparently she had a kittypet father a while ago. The older cats say that he unexpectedly dropped dead in the camp." I can't tell him the truth now. I hate lying, but now I need to get out alive. I wanted peace here, free from this way of life. I guess that's not how life works here. Bluepaw snorted under her breath. Perfect society, Oak? Is this you idea of perfect, Murderers, liers, traitors, and evil cats? Mouse- brained tom.
"Birchpaw, where is Mossdream's apprentice?"
"Sunpaw is in her old den. He still grieves and won't come out. Thankfully no cat has been hurt yet, but I'm afraid he won't come out."
"Thats a problem." Silence. "Well, er..." Birchpaw started.
"Ill go see if Sunpaw is alright." Bluefeather rushed out of the bushes and sped into the medicine den, hoping Birchpaw didn't follow.
Sunpaw lay among a pile of jumbled herbs. Asleep, he appeared to be dreaming. But suddenly, his head lurched to the right, scattering a pile of poppy seeds. It seemed that the healer had become the sick. He needs comfort. Quietly, so as not to disturb him, she settled down beside him among the remains of the mossy bedding. Sunpaw lurched again, his pelt swirling like fire as he spurted into a fit. Foaming at the mouth, he opened his eyes to reveal golden spheres that burned with curiosity. His body inclined again to the right and he wailed, distressed.
"No!" He screeched suddenly. "She wouldn't, she....she couldn't, she can't....... She will." His unnatural eyes turned a white misty color as he turned... to look directly at Bluefeather.
"Coldhearted cats. They await you. Elements do not rest until everything crumbles to dust. Everything! They rip spires of rocks to shreads! Nothing escapes them! White as snow, clear as day, I see every cats fate!"
His eyes cleared, spit stopped dripping down his chin, and he stopped twitching.
"Kill me." He whispered to Bluepaw. "This is why I haven't left! You see now, I am mad! All I see are visions of pain and death! Kill me, Snowybreath, please! This is torture!" Wait, who?
Sunpaw screeched and sprang to his feet, but red lines of blood already spread across his face. In an instant, he woke from his trance once more, revealed his hazel eyes, and addressed Bluefeather personally now,
"Bluepaw. Your thoughts are correct; in this peaceful camp lie a murderer, a traitor, a villian. StarClan predicts they will kill one who dreams of bloodshed, one of cowardice, and one of love." He purred roughly. "You found me. I am going to die, you know. And yes, yes they killed me. So young..." Sunpaw sighed.
"No!" Bluepaw cried. "No, you can't leave me-"
"There she is!" Rosepaw screeched. "She killed our only hope for survival!" Rosepaw and cats she recognised as the warrior Mudclaw and apprentice Rabbitpaw. Soon after them came Troutstar, who stared in shock at Bluepaw.
"Why would you do this?" He demanded after a while. "I took you in, I.." He shook his head sadly.
"All cats old enough to swim, gather to hear my words!" He cried. Cats shuffled to the Medicine clearing to get a good look at the dead Sunpaw in the cAve, and Bluepaw's paws stained with blood. Snaketongue pushed Sootkit away and ran to her other son. Curled around the body, she hissed at Bluepaw,
"Traitor. Lier. Murderer." Cats echoed the cry across the camp as Troutstar howled,
"Enough! Bluepaw has killed Sunpaw, disobeyed our trust, and now we must drive her out, back to her old clan!"
"Wait!" Rosepaw looked happy to share her information. "We ran into a ThunderClan patrol this early morning. They had never heard of her! You know what I think? 'Bluefeather' and her band of rogues killed Mossdream, then sent her to finish the job! I say we kill her, then find her rogues and kill them too! They could be dangerous! We could even rouse all the Clans for this- who knows how many cats they have?"
Cats howled agreement, and Bluepaw dreaded to see that one of them was Troutstar.
"Yes." He declared, nodding at Rosepaw. "Drive out the Rouge. If you can, kill her!"
Cats ran forward at Bluepaw, who stood frozen. How did this happen? Suddenly, A band of cats lashed out against her pursuers.
"Run!" Birchpaw screeched as his paws thundered against Rosepaw, kicking her away. Bluefeather was shocked to see Larkfoot, Foxpaw, and even Orangepatch, who carried a protesting Sootkit in his jaws. Soon following them was Ivyfoot, Birchpaw's mentor, and grumpy old Patchtail, who carried a rabbit he had probably been eating. All of the cats made way for the attackers as they Sprinted past and jumped the river.
"Follow me!" Birchpaw painted, turning toward the direction of Oak's camp. The mismatched parade of old and young followed. When they stopped for air, Birchpaw looked back to see the rest of the Clan turning back. All of them had the same thought: our own clan. They wanted to kill a cat without proving them guilty, and then had the nerve to not care that we are friends, and not foes?
"Well," Ivyfoot said to Bluefeather. "We risked our lives for you. Care to explain what happened?"
