* Eh, like of lot of these, depends on your story and each character. If your leader/deputy is complex, having the MC constantly interacting with them is a great way to establish character. This is a way to make "deputy betrays leader" stories more impactful as well. The MC likes the deputy and admires them, which puts a twist on the bare formula. Just don't leave the other characters in the dust. If your deputy/leader aren't too complex or emotionally pivotal to the plot, they'll get spotlight on characterization based on their positions alone.
