Chapter 20
(Future)
Redpaw finally got his warrior name. He was now known as Redspots. His friends were also now known as Moonrush, Darkclaw, Nightstorm. Dawnpaw was given a warrior name, but since she never got to have an assessment, she would never become a warrior and would be a queen for the rest of her life until she joined the elders den. She was now known as Dawncloud.
Speaking of Nightstorm, since they had time before their vigil, "Well Nightstorm, what are you going now that you are a warrior that is a father and not an apprentice that is a father?" Redspots teased.
"Well I will definitely spend more time with Dawncloud and my little boy, Firekit!" Nightstorm responded.
Redspots purred at his friend. He would make a great father for that kid! Redspots thought.
After Dewdrop's death, Silentstar appointed Lightstream as the new deputy. Speaking of Lightstream, "You four ready for your vigil?"
The four new warriors nodded their heads. Something that bothered Redspots was where he had the side of neck get cut open.
Twigbranch, Darkclaw's former mentor, Sorrelstripe, Nightstorm's former mentor, and Strikeclaw, Moonrush's former mentor, looked at the three warriors with pride. As per usual, Dovefeather gave Redspots a look of hatred before leaving to the Warrior's Den. Sucks for her that I will be joining her shortly, Redspots mused.
"C'mon Redspots! We start our vigil in like three minutes!" Moonrush called out.
"Coming!" Redspots called back.
Unbeknownst to Redspots, someone was watching him. Silentstar quietly sat on the highrock looking down on the red tortoiseshell tom.
~^~
Darkclaw sat at the entrance of camp watching for anything. After recent events, nobody knew when Shadowclan would attack again. The sad part about the whole situation was that ShadowClan had a low amount of warriors, but still managed to kill Dewdrop before they were defeated.
Darkclaw had to be prepared for anything. No one knew what would happen next. It was the first time in moons since any ShadowClan cat had attacked the Thunderclan camp. It hasn't happened since the Shadowclan/Riverclan occupation of Thunderclan's territory. Darkclaw shuddered at the thought.
Darkclaw looked at his right. Moonrush and Nightstorm were looking around nervously. Darkclaw looked to his left and saw Redspots slowly moving his head to inspect his surroundings. Also cause Darkclaw knew that Redspots neck was still a concern according to Flowerfur and Briartail and they had told the red tortoiseshell not to move his head drastically.
Darkclaw looked up again and noticed that the sun was beginning to rise. It was only a matter of time before they would end their vigil
Once their vigil was done, the four former apprentices entered the camp and were met with Lightstream and and Silentstar, "I see you all are done with your vigil. Go get a piece of prey, then get some sleep." Lightstream mewed.
Darkclaw and the others nodded at the new deputy and went to the fresh-kill pile.
"And you know you can now speak right?" Lightstream yelled.
Redspots responded, "Naw! I completely forgot! I just heard prey and sleep and then nodded my head!"
Lightstream laughed, "You know there are just some things you shouldn't admit!"
Redspots smirked, "It seems I didn't get in trouble. Looks like we got a fun and good deputy on our paws!"
Everyone just smiled. Even though the death of Dewdrop hurt, especially since he was deputy for a short amount time, Lightstream would make a great deputy, and everyone knew that.
Everyone grabbed a piece of a prey. Nightstorm grabbed a dove, but leaved to share it with Dawncloud and Firekit. Moonrush and Redspots both got a water vole, and Darkclaw just got a robin and started to eat.
Once Darkclaw was done, he went straight to the warriors den and noticed that there were four empty nests that were clearly just made.
He saw Hollypool look shyly at the ground. That is rather odd? Why would Hollypool look at the ground like that? Darkclaw decided not to worry about it, "To whoever made me and my friends nests, I say on their behalf, thank you!"
And with that, Darkclaw went into the nest and as swiftly as a robin could fly, he fell asleep. It didn't take his friends long to join him and they all went to sleep.
~^~
Frostpelt began to walk around the Riverclan. She was now a warrior! And so were her brothers, Creekstream and Cloudfall!
They would still tease her about Redpaw on a daily basis. And they wouldn't stop!
"What are you doing Frostpelt?" Her father, Flamestar, asked her.
"Nothing, just tired today...I'm guessing you have already heard of Shadowclan's failed attack on Thunderclan..." Frostpelt asked.
Flamestar sighed, "And I hear that poor Dewdrop was killed. He had became deputy only five moons ago...What was Shadowclan thinking? They just disrupted the peace...I know Ravenstar...I doubt this was his judgement...I am sure that this was just some warriors that still want the days of Redstar to return..."
Frostpelt had heard the stories. Riverclan was once an ally of Shadowclan and they did horrible things together. They killed many Windclan, Skyclan, and some Thunderclan cats. They even killed their own warriors if they dared to defy Shadowclan and Riverclan and apprentices would die from the severe training that they were put through.
They didn't just kill clan cats, they killed many rogues, loners, and kittypets that were unfortunate enough to not get the message that Windclan territory was taken by Riverclan, and Skyclan territory was taken by Shadowclan.
What the two clans did, resulted in their downfall.
"I met Ravenstar when I was still an apprentice and Swiftpelt and Leafpaw needed some marigold that was in Shadowclan territory as Windclan was busy dealing with some rogues that had attacked them." Frostpelt explained, "I doubt he gave the order either."
"Who would do such a thing?..." Flamestar pondered.
"Flamestar!" A voice yowled. It was Rainwhisker.
"What is it Rainwhisker?" Flamestar asked with concern. Rainwhisker was quiet cat who had never yelled up to now.
Rainwhisker was clearly worried about something, "It's Ravenstar! He and a couple of Shadowclan warriors, queens, kits, elders, and their medicine cats are here! It's like he brought his entire clan except that two-thirds of his warriors aren't with him! Something isn't right about Shadowclan!"
Flamestar pondered a moment. Frostpelt could tell her father was still digesting the information, "Tell Ravenstar, Sleakfur, Shadowreach, and Silvermoon that I am over here. And let Silverpelt, Swiftpelt, and Leafpaw know to come here as well."
Rainwhisker nodded his head and left to do what he was told, "Frostpelt," Flamestar turned his daughter, "You should get going. I'm sure your brothers Creekstream and Cloudfall would like to hear my decision. I need you to be there to calm them down when I say to the clan my decision, cause I already know what Ravenstar wants."
Frostpelt turned tail and left the area to go find her brothers. She was scared for what would happen. She was so confused about the whole situation and didn't know what was going to happen. Dear Starclan! What if Shadowclan had a coup and those that were loyal to Ravenstar were kicked out?!
~^~
(3 moons later)
Flowerfur began to pad around the catmint farm that was beginning to grow, "Can't wait for them to be able to be harvested so that we have something to deal with greencough! We should also get ready for some burdock and marigold." Flowerfur turned her head to Briartail and Scratchclaw.
Briartail faced Scratchclaw and sighed, "It is nearing leaf-bare...We need all the herbs we can get or else we will have a sickness outbreak, and with having less warriors since after we attacked...*sigh*" Flowerfur could tell that Briartail was exhausted with all the herb gathering. They did need all the herbs they could get...
Flowerfur couldn't allow for a solemn day, "Well look on the bright side, we do have enough herbs to prevent any sickness outbreaks! We have enough burdock for greencough and whitecough! Chamomile for severe shock and nervous breakdowns!" Saying breakdown put Briartail and Scratchclaw in a solemn mood. Of course saying that reminds them of the time they had no chamomile for poor Sparkbolt. He had a nervous breakdown and then entered severe shock which killed the golden tom. Pebblestream didn't feel upset a bit and it led to Redspots's poor treatment. Flowerfur knew Pebblestream was using Redspots's birth as a cover up for not caring about Sparkbolt's death.
"Well ignore what I said, we have enough herbs this time around! All we need are poppy seeds and catmint and we are set!" Flowerfur exclaimed enthusiastically.
Briartail and Scratchclaw just sighed, "Well we should get going. I hear that some kits will be getting their apprentice names soon!" Scratchclaw tried to sound enthusiastic.
"Sounds good...Lets just hope we don't have to deal with another medicine cat. Thunderclan already has three again!" Briartail mewed.
It didn't take the medicine cats long to return to the camp and get everything organized and put in certain areas. They finally managed to relax when Lightstream and Silentstar walked inside.
Lightstream spoke first, "You might want to hear this!"
"What is it?" Briartail asked.
Silentstar cleared his throat, "We got news that Shadowclan has fallen...a third of their warriors went to Riverclan alongside Ravenstar, Sleakfur, Shadowreach, Silvermoon, and their only apprentice. The six warriors remaining warriors decided they no longer wanted Ravenstar as leader and want to bring back the days of when Redstar was leader...They were the warriors that attacked us, and they weren't alone. They had the aid of rogues that also helped them chase Ravenstar, and those that were loyal to him, out of their own territory."
Briartail gasped. Scratchclaw looked like his eyes were gonna pop out. Flowerfur didn't know what to say. She wasn't surprised that the clan collapsed. It isn't the first time either. Darktail tore the clan apart. They were pretty divided on the reality of Starclan and when Redstar appeared, their loyalty was even further shifted. Flowerfur was honestly surprised they lasted as long as they did.
"What are we going to do now Silentstar? We can't just let this new force get in the way of everything we've worked for! For peace! Harmony!" Briartail yelled.
"...We are are talking about a group larger than the population of all the clans combined! The reason we won was cause they didn't send a lot of warriors to fight! They only brought like seven percent of their entire force! This is something we have never seen before! This group is larger than the Dark Forest and Darktail's Kin! This group is so massive that attacking them would result in our destruction in a matter of m i n u t e s!"
The way Silentstar said minutes put chills through Flowerfur's spine. The whole situation was nerve racking!, "So they kill Dewdrop and nearly kill Redspots, and we aren't really going to do anything? Not even prepare?! No defenses at all?! Not prepare a bit and just let them attack us?!" Flowerfur questioned.
"..."
"...Not a bit of preparation?"
Lightstream just sat there. She clearly agreed with Flowerfur's points but didn't want to anger Silentstar. Silentstar was once a quiet cat. He made it clear that he didn't want to become leader. It wouldn't surprise her if he just retired from leadership and had Lightstream become leader.
"You are right Flowerfur...We should at least keep our defenses up. We don't want any more cats to die. We got very lucky that only Dewdrop died. We are low on warriors after certain events led to more events..." Silentstar reluctantly agreed.
Lightstream soon spoke up, "Should I get some warriors that we can spare to start making some defenses?"
"Yes...Please do that..." Silentstar sighed. Flowerfur knew this situation was stressful for him. Leadership was difficult. It's just sad that Silentstar didn't even try to understand why Lionstripe made his decision to back down from leadership. Lionstripe was too old by the time he reached his last life. It was better for the tom to retire. Silentstar is young and more than likely had enough lives to keep the clan going, "I need to go now. I have an announcement to make."
And with that, Silentstar left and climbed to the top of the highrock and yelled out the words that everyone pretty much is tired to hear.
~^~
All cats that were old enough to hunt went into the clearing. And so did little Firekit. Redspots was proud of Nightstorm and Dawncloud for being great parents despite their young age.
"Today is a marvelous day. Today is the day that we name a new apprentice amongst us. That would be none other than Firekit! Firekit, come forward!"
Firekit did as he was told. Redspots looked and saw the back of Firekit's head was recently licked to perfect flatness, Firekit, you have quite the impressive mother. Rumor has it that no mother is able to do that, Redspots mused to himself.
"From this moment until you gain your warrior name, you will be known as Firepaw. Redspots." Redspots looked up sharply, realizing what was happening, "I entrust you Firepaw as your apprentice. I know you will teach this young cat the ways of the warrior code and teach him what Lionstripe had taught you. And do a much better job at mentoring than Dovefeather could ever wish."
Dovefeather looked up angrily. At the end of the day, despite Dovefeather and Silentstar being similar in age, and them both not particularly liking him, if he had to choose who to be as his mentor, he would've chosen Silentstar anytime.
Redspots smirked, he wanted to say what he wanted to say so badly, and he did it with pride, "Of course Silentstar! Anyone could be better than her! A kit that was just born would have much better results with mentoring!"
Redspots could see that the normally serious Strikeclaw had a hard time keeping himself from smirking.
Redspots glared at Dovefeather, making it clear that it was payback for the mouse-dung she put him through and that, at the end of the day, he won.
Redspots looked at Firepaw and the two touched noses, "I'll make sure I will teach you the best moves, and teach you some wits." Redspots winked at the ginger tom and Firekit smiled.
Pebblestream didn't show the same hatred she did previously. The red tortoiseshell tom had tried to save her life, almost at the cost of his. Her fox-heartedness was replaced with relief that she was wrong. Redspots felt like he could possibly manage to make a mother-son bond with her one day. It was only a matter of time, and multiple times of talking to her, "Congrats Redspots...Please continue to prove me wrong...As embarrassing and humiliating it is...it feels rather...good...to know that I was wrong the whole time...I can see that you may save this clan one day and bring it back to what it once was..."
Redspots felt like he was going to tear up. All his life he was neglected by Pebblestream and it felt great for once to feel like she didn't hate him anymore, "Isn't Thunderclan as fine as it is right now? Don't worry. This clan will be fine without me doing something drastic. Thunderclan will thrive. We will never collapse like Shadowclan. As much as we have had our differences, Thunderclan has always resolved them. This clan is as good as it can get even with the lack of warriors. Anyways, I should probably get going. I'm thinking of showing Firepaw around the territory if it is safe enough."
Pebblestream said her goodbyes and the two went their separate ways. Redspots could hear Lightstream instructing the apprentices to make a nest for their new denmate and they didn't object! Redspots could tell she would make a fine leader one day.
Redspots looked towards Nightstorm and Dawncloud. They are going to miss not seeing Firepaw all the time... Redspots looked the other direction and saw Hollypool and Darkclaw talking to each other.
Hollypool, Lionpelt, Goldenpelt, and Mousetail are the only children Lionstripe had with- Redspots mind was abruptly cut off when he saw Flowerfur continuously stare at him. She's been doing that ever since my neck was cut! That's three moons straight now! It's nothing but a scar! He wanted to ask why Flowerfur keeps looking at him, but he didn't want to. Might as well surprise her later on.
Redspots began to yawn. He should head to sleep and show Firepaw around the territory tomorrow. Redspots began to pad towards the warriors den and rested in his nest, where a few more warriors went to sleep as well. Sleep tight my warrior.

So a new thing I will be doing is asking questions!
What does "Silentstar sat quietly on the highrock looking down on the red tortoiseshell tom" mean?!
Why did Redspots get an apprentice?
What is Dovefeather's issue?
Why was Pebblestream a b****?
Why was Pebblestream not even seen in this chapter?
4 out of 5 of those questions will be answered at some point!
_______________
You all are especially welcome for probably one of the longest chapters I have ever made XD
