Chapter 11
(Future)
It had been 7 moons since the gathering. Redpaw and his friends had their assessment today.
Darkpaw, Nightpaw, and Moonpaw looked siked for their assessment. "This is your chance to show Thunderclan that you're not a mistake!" Darkpaw exclaimed. Redpaw couldn't have asked for better friends, "Let's do this guys!" Redpaw purred.
The mentors, Dovefeather, Strikeclaw, Sorrelstripe, and Twigbranch, were walking into the bushes after giving the apprentices the order to start hunting.
Redpaw spared no time. He headed straight for the old twoleg den that was full of mice. Redpaw realized that wouldn't be a good idea. I need to go to a place that is challenging for me. Redpaw headed straight for the territory near the stream separating Windclan and Thunderclan. Redpaw knew that Darkpaw and Nightpaw would've went to the old twoleg den anyway.
Redpaw had made it near the stream. The red tortoiseshell sniffed the air for any prey. He could sense a few critters. Rabbit, dove, pigeon, mouse, and...cat? Redpaw figured it was just Dovefeather or the other mentors. Redpaw continued to hunt, but kept an ear out just in case it was an enemy cat. Redpaw had managed to catch the rabbit, mouse, and dove he smelled. The bushes started to rustle.
Redpaw looked around and asked, "Who's there? If you're my mentor you're not hiding that well. If you're an enemy cat, then I'll let you know that a Thunderclan apprentice isn't somebody to just attack. I can put up a fight!"
Redpaw stayed put for a moment. No answer. Redpaw decided to turn around. Just as he expected, as he turned away a cat came out to attack him. He was the former apprentice of Lionstar, now Lionstripe. He immediately attacked the attacker's muzzle, causing them to stumble, then proceeded to attack from the side and slid under the cat and raked their belly, causing the cat to screech in pain.
"I asked who's there coward!" Redpaw hissed, "You didn't answer and waited for me to turn my back!" The cat was still dazed at the attack. Redpaw dug a hole for the prey, and lead the cat to the Thunderclan camp. They'll know what to do, Redpaw thought.
"Who's this?!"Silentstar yelled.
"This cat tried to attack me while I was doing my assessment after I heard a rustle in the bushes!" Redpaw yelled back. Redpaw knew he shouldn't yell at the leader, but he was done with being treated as if he came from the Dark Forest.
Suddenly Strikeclaw and everybody else ran inside the camp. "Redpaw!" Strikeclaw yelled. "Yes, Strikeclaw?" Redpaw asked cooly. He wasn't mad at this cat. "I smelled your scent mixed with anothe-" The white tom stopped talking once he saw the tom and the bleeding nose and belly, "Nevermind."
Silentstar just looked at the tom that attacked Redpaw. "Why are you on Thunderclan's territory, let alone interfere with one of Thunderclan's apprentices assessment?"
The tom was a brownish-orange color. "My name's Swelick. My son needs food. I had to resort to stealing." Understanding crossed Silentstar's eyes. Redpaw looked at Silentstar, "If you want me to grab one of the prey I caught, I'll go do that now."
Silentstar looked at Redpaw, "You will stay here. I'm sure Strikeclaw can get it." Redpaw was having none of that mouse-dung. "So what you're trying to say is that you don't trust me to grab a piece of prey for a starving cat? What type of leader are you if you can't trust an apprentice to grab prey!" The grey leader stared him straight in the eyes, "It appears you've been getting aggressive with your tone."
"Gee, I wonder why?" Redpaw replied sarcastically.
"Fine! You will get the piece of prey, but why should Strikeclaw go with you?" Dovefeather looked straight up ticked. "Why can't his mentor keep an eye on him?"
The leader thought about this for a second. "I guess you're right." A smile spread Dovefeather's face, "Go now before I change my mind." The two didn't need another warning.
"I have to leave real quick!" Dovefeather exclaimed. "Why?" Redpaw asked.
Dovefeather mewed with strange uncertainty, "Because I have to 'go'"
Redpaw didn't need to hear it a third time. He just nodded while Dovefeather left. When the she-cat didn't come back, he decided it was a good idea to look for her. "Dovefeather! Where are you?" Redpaw asked this five times before she came back. "I'm right here mouse-brain!" The grey she-cat hissed. Redpaw rolled his eyes and continued to where he put the prey.
Swelick was happy when he got the prey. He started to look uncomfortable around Redpaw all of a sudden, which confused Redpaw at first before he figured someone exaggerated Redpaw's birth to look like an omen for his future. Redpaw let it go before Silentstar made an announcement, "Today is a momentous day. Our apprentices have past their assessments." Redpaw realized what was happening and stepped forward.
Before he got to the center somebody pulled him back, "Not you!"
He knew that voice immediately. Of course you don't want me to be a warrior Dovefeather. Redpaw just sighed. He knew he couldn't do anything.
"Why isn't Redpaw allowed to be a warrior. That isn't fair!" Redpaw turned too see Nightpaw, Moonpaw, and Darkpaw all having their backs arched and looked angry at Silentstar's intent on not letting him be a warrior, "He deserves to be a warrior just like the rest of us!" Nightpaw spat. Silentstar sat wide-eyed at the apprentices trying too support him.
Redpaw saw his mother, Pebblestream, looking at him in disgust, and then looked at Silentstar, "He is an omen of Thunderclan's destruction! You can't let him be a warrior!"
He saw Strikeclaw and Lionstripe sit up, "Shut up you disgrace for a mother! You should be the one treated horribly, not the poor kit of the disgraceful mother!" Strikeclaw hissed. Pebblestream was taken aback by the remark. Her brother, Rockpelt, came too her aid while her other brother, Dustclaw, joined on Strikeclaw's side.
Lionstripe had a look of fear cross his face. He's been through something similar too this, Redpaw thought. Lionstripe has told him about the separation of Riverclan due to his birth. They were never the same after that. Things happened and then soon he was pulled into a war. It came to be known as the War for Peace or Power.
What broke Redpaw from his thoughts were words know cat should ever hear, "We need to kill him before he destroys the clans!" Pebblestream screeched. Without a second word, cats started to turn too him. The elders, apprentices, Sorrelstripe, Strikeclaw, Ashfall, Twigbranch, and Dustclaw went too protect Redpaw.

Frostpaw had gotten her warrior name, Frostpelt, while her brothers, Creekpaw and Cloudpaw became Creekstream and Cloudfall. She knew Redpaw and the other Thunderclan were about her age or a bit older. Frostpelt started too wonder what Redpaw's warrior name would be.
"What are you thinking about, the exotic red splotched tom." Cloudfall teased. "No why?" Frostpelt lied. She knew it was against the warrior code too make friends with cats from other clans, she just couldn't help it. Frostpelt turned into her new nest in the warriors den and fell asleep.

Redpaw was backed into a corner by Rockpelt and Pebblestream. Dustclaw was by his side. "You will not kill him! That's against the warrior code no matter the cat!" Dustclaw yelled. Scratchclaw and Flowerfur was on Strikeclaw's side, and refused to help heal cats that wanted to kill Redpaw. "You don't have to kill me! I can stay an apprentice if you really want too!" Redpaw pleaded. "No Redpaw. You have too die!" Right as Pebblestream leaped at him, Lionstripe threw himself at Pebblestream knocking the air out of her. Lionstripe looked at Rockpelt, "I may be old, but I can still fight, and I haven't forgotten the warrior code!" The old tom hissed. Rockpelt backed down knowing not too risk attacking Lionstripe. Pebblestream though, wasn't as bright.
The she-cat hurled herself torward the tom, and he stepped out of the way, making her yelp in pain.
Mind you that Swelick was still inside the camp, hidden inside one of the dens probably. I can't blame him. This clan has gone crazy! Redpaw could hear the sound of an approaching group of cats and he yelled, "Everybody stop fighting, I can hear cats approaching the camp!" All cats stopped fighting once they heard the approaching cats.
Soon everybody began to defend the elders instead of fighting them.
A group of what appeared to be Shadowclan cats, entered the camp in an attempt to take over Thunderclan when they were distracted, just to find them unified once more.
Shadowclan decided they should just continue their attack. They managed to tear down the defenses and started to head torward the nursery and elders den.
As Redpaw looked around the clearing and he could see one casualty. Dewdrop, the Thunderclan deputy, was laying on the ground motionless
Pebblestream ran inside the nursery to protect the kits and queens, but Redpaw knew that wouldn't last. Most of the queens forgot how to fight while the elders still had fight left in them.
Redpaw went to protect the nursery. He stopped a group of cats in their path and attacked them without question, sending two of them running.
While there was initially only two left, there were reinforcements immediately. He was outnumbered 5-1, but Redpaw continued too fight anyway. He couldn't let them harm his mother, even though she tried too harm him.
Redpaw was severely wounded, but wouldn't stop fighting. He had too protect them! Pebblestream finally came out of the den too see why none of the Shadowclan warriors made it inside the nursery, just to see Redpaw holding them back with all his might, but he was defeated nonetheless. Four of the warriors gave up, while the other one stayed. The she-cat that stayed started to make her way to Pebblestream.
She started to defeat Pebblestream quickly and started to prepare for the death blow.
"Nooo!!!" Redpaw yowled and slammed into the she-cat, knocking her air out, and proceeded to scratch her face. The she-cat cut the side of Redpaw's neck before kicking him off and running away.
"Redpaw!" Redpaw heard Pebblestream's yell before everything went black.
Redpaw woke up too Flowerfur examining... "Well hello there." Flowerfur looked up sharply. "How long were you awake?"
"Long enough to wake up to see this." Flowerfur looked like she was blushing. Redpaw just layed his head back down. He didn't care in the least. He had other problems to worry about. "What made you so curious? Wait, your slightly younger than me right? You got lucky your apprenticeship wasn't held back multiple times from a foxhearted mother." Redpaw sighed. "I've seen cats bleed from mouth too...well, you get the idea." Flowerfur replied too Redpaw's question, "And I guess I was lucky. Scratchclaw's a good mentor. You're also a good cat. The others don't see it that way."
Redpaw never had the chance to get to talk too Flowerfur. She had gotten her full medicine cat name, even though she was a moon younger then Redpaw. "Your rather enjoyable to talk too. Everybody else says you don't talk much." Redpaw meowed. "I don't." Flowerfur answered rather simply. "I have a feeling your enjoying this conversation." Redpaw teased. "I don't. I'm just being nice and pretending to hear you." Flowerfur replied. "Well ouch." Redpaw pretended to be hurt. "Oh shut up and quit whining." Flowerfur replied curtly. She was definitely embarrassed at getting caught. "Well I guess I was just being nice about your shyness." Redpaw replied. It was the only way to keep the conversation going.
Flowerfur just looked at him with slitted eyes. "I'm kidding! Lay your fur down!" Redpaw meowed. Flowerfur relaxed. The rest of the day continued in complete silence. Redpaw decided it was best to be quiet and avoid getting in an argument with the medicine cat. He would most certainly lose.
