Chapter Eight

Sparrow bounded forwards, still slightly disheartened, "Why are you here?" He tried asking politely, although he prayed to his ancestors, ever since the attack, he doubted it really existed.
A sad aura seemed to lurk around the young soul, making the others uncanny as he began to speak, the strangest thing was, he could understand but not distinguish yapping from meows that a little-claw might make.
"Hope no longer resides in the woods; a distant travel will harbor safe from the flood." He murmured.
He wrinkled his snout in confusion, why did this little pup bother say anything? They were traveling anyway! Flood?? And adding to his confusion, the Little-Claw made her way over to Falcon and mewed something unintelligible; but the pup nodded in understanding, and shifted his sight towards his older brother once more.
"She says you better not get any funny ideas, or... You'll have one less eye to see with." The brown spirit barked uncomfortably, before flicking his tail and speaking in the odd meow-like voice, "I need to go. May the Spirit-Wolves light your path."
"You cannot just leave like that!-" Sparrow blurted out, but it was too late, he had vanished into thin air.

POV Switch
Locustkit stared in shock, these wolves could speak, that spirit spoke, so maybe Sparrow couldn't, but this meant something! They weren't completely and utterly savage beasts that killed for fun! Maybe... Maybe this meant he could really help her? That if Falcon hadn't lied, this might be a spark of hope for the pair, a blaze that might help her take back IvyClan and restore the peaceful place to the proper era, not one filled with canines and packs, just cats and clans. She rose to her paws excitedly, hunger momentarily forgotten as she dug her claws into the earth apprehensively. This didn't last long however, for the dusty colored male had scooted a hare towards her nervously, his eyes intent. As soon as the food came into vision, it was all the white kit could think about.
She pointed tentatively to the furry rodent, hoping to convey a sense of questioning. She hadn't been sure whether he caught it for her or himself, not that it'd matter in moments, the mismatched eyed she-cat would attempt to eat it despite any circumstance. Thankfully though, Sparrow nodded, and in assumption, she plunged her snout into its flank ravenously, letting the warm, succulent scent envelop her nostrils with contempt. Locustkit purred as she ate, thankful for even the most distasteful morsel, but this was actually decent! Sure, it wasn't the rabbits, mice or squirrels from back in the meadow... but it was prey. The thought of the former days brought back all her awareness to each action, and quickly pulled away from the nearly half devoured critter, glancing up at the one who caught it and nudged it towards him with her paws.
She couldn't believe she was blind to his own needs, even though technically, she would be more hungry than him since he was bigger, right? Regardless, the white furred kitten stepped back and watched Sparrow consume the rest quite quickly, faster than her even; which was surprising when you considered her monstrous appetite. She watched silently now, as he feasted and swallowed, her heart experiencing a twinge of guilt, noticing it even then, wouldn't be much for a larger creature such as himself.
Sparrow rose to his paws hurriedly and turned his gaze towards the even more barren landscape ahead, the faint blue silhouette of a peak could be seen, unfortunately overshadowed by a large cloud impending slowly towards them. There would be plenty of time for them to experience sunshine, but they would be heading into the storm, and the shade across the horizon signifying heavy rain. Not the most convenient traveling weather, but the trip still needed to commence. If the male wolves sense of purpose wasn't enough to drive her, it was the odd words spoken by his kin. The scent of the distant trouble was present, the exact same as the morning dew or nighttime mist, who knew water could be so stressful!
His dusty coat ruffled under sight of the kitten, both getting to their feet to continue the trek towards the summit far off in the distance... Not today, but someday, there was hope of arriving, and the sense of important surged both on like a tug in their belly. Not to be understood, only followed.
This was the beginning of a journey.

A/n, sorry for the short chapter! No real excuse, it just felt right to end the chapter here.
