Branches clashed together. The wind howled, seeming endless as it violently shook the pine trees. The moon just barely glistened through the dark sky. A loud crash sounded. thunder. Rain started to pour, latching onto pine needles and dripping on the forest floor below.
Suddenly a tree groaned and started to lean, making an eerie creaking noise. Rain pounded harder against the ground, loosening it. The tree leaned farther, the roots ripped out of its place and the tree tipped over and fell slowly, then faster and faster. The roots gave a final groan and split. The tree collapsed onto the ground over a big, wild river.
Waves lapped hungrily at the tree and pulled it in, as the tree was young, and thin. It bobbed in the river, up and down before it was carried away, waves crashing over it. But, in this stormy night, there was life. A head poked between two trees.
A mottled she-cat slipped into the trees, eyes narrowing against the rain. Seeming to know exactly where to go, the cat weaved between the pine trees and ducked beneath fallen branches in the storm. Her slender shape began to look small and scrawny as the rain pelted down on her. But she ignored it, focused on one thing. Finally, she halted at a clearing with a small stream. She sat down, tail flicking impatiently as she waited for something, like prey was going to come.
After a few more moments, a shadow appeared at the edge of the clearing. A slick shape creeped out and raised its tail in greeting. It was a white tom with black markings. The she-cat shook out her fur, sending raindrops flying and the tom had to duck in order to avoid them. Hissing playfully, the white and black cat leapt at the tortoiseshell and pinned her down, growling mockingly. The she-cat snarled playfully and pushed him off, flipping onto her paws, and crouched down ready to leap at him. But he shook his head and bounded to her side.
She sat up and wrapped her tail around her paws. "Why did we have to meet on a night like this?" the tom complained, looking at his soaked pelt. The she-cat flicked her tail over his head. "Well, we can't predict if it will be a clear night or stormy.
But at least-'' the she-cat paused, ears pricking up. "What is i-" the tom's voice became muffled as the she-cat slapped her tail over his mouth. "Listen-" she whispered quietly. Suddenly pine needles crunching became audible, and they froze. The tortoiseshell lifted her muzzle and scented the air. Nothing but pine.
She flicked her tail, signaling to the tom to follow her. She set her paws down lightly and creeped towards the noise and widened her eyes. It was another cat. She ducked down low and followed the cat. The cat was big, lean, and looked quite strong, and had the shape of a tom. And it was a clan cat. It was only possible that it was. A rogue wouldn't creep through the territory and know how to disguise his scent. Plus, the tortoiseshell recognized him at once.
what?
She followed him with the tom behind her. Soon tall shapes came into sight. a harsh tang hung in the air, along with cats, but not clan cats, but kittypets. twolegplace. She wrinkled her nose and continued to stalk the tom. her eyes glowed with confusion.
What would a clan cat be doing here?
Suddenly, a small she-cat with round ears leaped from a fence. the two cats wreathed around each other, purring. So there is another forbidden romance, eh?
