Chapter three: Training Facility
Really? 'Happy fighting'? Why would you be happy from fighting someone? That seemed like a horrible good-bye. He could've done something like 'Good day' or something else like that. I pushed the thought out of mind. Might be better not to think about it. I shouldn't think about it. It would just make my day more worse than it already is. I had been chosen to fight. I could win, but should I? I would be taking someone from their family if I won. If I lost the same thing would happen, except to me. Maybe Mira and I could work something out. Even if we did, I don't know what would happen, then. Why would they make me fight, why? Usually we have strong fighters that almost never lose. My side has lost twenty-five times.
After everyone left a helicopter came to take us to the training facility. Although we wouldn't start training for a while. It would be at least a day, before we would start training. I was a bit nervous about training, though. Even though I did the high-score for the course, I didn't know if I'd be that good. I would at least try though, I mean who knows; I may win if I try. I don't think I should try. I don't want to hurt anyone. I won't unless I have to. Maybe they'll make me. I hope not.
Our flight wasn't too long, but I felt sick. The helicopter wasn't as small as I usually saw them. It was a lot bigger than those small ones. The color that stayed on the whole helicopter. It had four small fridges two on each side, and in the middle were big grey seats. There was also another room they added onto it which had computers and televisions.
I opened the fridge and inside were all kinds of sodas and juices, some I'd never seen before. There was also different kinds of food, like: Pizza, Spaghetti, Quesadillas, and Nachos. I picked up a Sprite and some Nachos and walked over to a television. I picked up a remote and turned it on. The lights flickered on almost immediately. Which surprised me. The televisions we had in our old house took like five minutes to turn on.
It turned to the news channel. It was showing today. I heard my name being called and I watch as I walk toward the climbing wall. Once I had climbed onto the wall, I was climbing faster than I thought I could. Like way faster. Once I had climbed onto the top I had burst into a sprint then I stopped for a moment. That probably slowed me down. Then I see as I slid under the blade, then ran through before the blade had hit the wall, then I had ducked, and last I had dove between the blades. It was cool to watch it on television. Because I never thought I would use one again.
Just then, there was a crash and the ground shook. I knew immediately what had happened. We had landed. I stand up and walk out the door. If we were having dinner now, I would be to full of food to. I never thought I'd be full again, either. A lot of things I never thought would happen again. It's just luck, not really though. I was as un-lucky as it was. It was scary just thinking about going into the arena.
Shivers ran down my spine. I want to go back, but I can't, I have to stay and play the game. I have to finish this. I have to get back to Elise and Amanda. I have to rescue my parents. Wherever they may be.
I snap back to reality when I hear, "Mira and Will follow me."
My neck turns. I see a short man with brown hair emerald-green eyes gesturing me to follow. When I do, I hear footsteps behind me.
I turn to see Mira behind. I see her blonde hair cut short enough to see her beautiful blue eyes. I quickly turn away before I embarrassed myself, and followed the man. I wondered where we were going when almost immediately he said, "We're going to show you both your rooms."
I cock my head, looking to the side as I do. I can't help but wonder why they do this? They act like it's just a game but it brings agony and sadness. Not only to yourself but family. My cousin had to go into the arena once, he lost. I will try to find him when I go there for my parents. Elise and Amanda will most likely have to stay with the baker. If that's alright with him. Otherwise I would have to take them both. Which would be okay with me. My concern was Amanda couldn't walk all the way. She'd have to be carried probably. It would slow me down but I would get there at least. Or at least get a small glimpse of it. We may get captured. But I might get to at least see them one last time. Elise and Amanda, too. Maybe I could purposely lose and bring them back? We'll see. I would be fifteen by the time I got to fight. My birthday is in a week. The week after is when I have to fight.
After a while we reach a giant building with glass windows on each floor with doors that lead to balconies. He opens the door and we step in the building. The floor was made of some tile that looked like rock and chandeliers hung above us. There was a room full of televisions, gaming consoles, and computers. Another room was grey and had knives, swords, and bows. There was a glass window so you could see into the training room. Another had paintings, paintbrushes and empty canvases. The man lead us to a hall with the rooms. Each room had a number. The man handed Mira and me key cards with our room numbers on them.
"My name is Andrew, if you need anything, tell me. Ill be happy to help."
"Thanks," We say almost in unison.
I walk towards my room. Mira's was across from mine. I wondered if this was where my cousin had stayed when he was chosen. It was a possibility.
My room had a queen-sized bed. Next to it was a small dresser with a lamp on it. There was a living room with a television and couch and a bathroom. There was also a dining room with two seats and a fridge with all kinds of food. Maybe Mira could come over.
I decide to go to bed. I was tired. I walk over to the bed and take off my shoes. Then I fall on my bed closing my eyes as I do. Almost as soon as my head hit the pillow I drift off to sleep.
