I got Screechthorn! What about you!

And I might as well...

Screechthorn blinked open his eyes and found himself in a forest. Mist swirled around the tree trunks. He gasped and staggered backwards, panic rising in his chest. Where am I? He could barely see a thing. Everything was hidden in the dark shadows. He could see no moon. No stars.
The shape of a cat stalked from the darkness. He could make out the glint of glowing amber eyes. As the cat approached, he saw that it was a gray she-cat with thin, patchy fur.
"Who are you?" Screechthorn whispered. "Where am I? What is this place?"
The she-cat slitted her eyes. He braced himself for her claws to come flying at his muzzle. But to his surprise, she didn't do anything. "Shadowedstalk," she muttered. "And where do you think you are?"
There was a hint of challenge in her voice. Screechthorn let his gaze wander around the forest. Suddenly, he remembered a place he had only been told nursery stories about...
"The Place of No Stars," he whispered. "The Dark Forest."
Shadowedstalk tipped her head. She stared at him, her amber eyes cold.
"Does this mean I'm dead?" Screechthorn asked.
The gray she-cat snorted. "Of course not. I'm the only dead one." She paused. "Well, there are others, of course, but— never mind that! It's time for your training to begin!"
"My training?" Screechthorn repeated, puzzled.
"Are you a mousebrain or something?" Shadowedstalk hissed. "Your battle training! Haven't you heard anything? We select cats to train in strong battle skills! At night!"
"But why me?" Screechthorn asked, shrinking against the muddy ground. "I didn't ask to be here!"
"Nobody cares whether or not you wanted to be here," Shadowedstalk snapped. "Just shut up and pay attention!"
Screechthorn fell silent. He had a feeling that if he said one more thing Shadowedstalk would snap his throat. He followed her as she maneuvered through the trees expertly, not even hesitating as the scenery changed from a wet marsh to a rocky slope. He felt lost and dazed, but he could do nothing but trudge after Shadowedstalk.
Finally she drew to a stop and turned to face him. They were at the banks of a creek. The water was slow and looked as if it was thick and muddy. He instinctively stepped back, glancing warily at Shadowedstalk.
"Step in," she ordered, jerking her muzzle at the water.
Gingerly he padded into the creek. His paws felt sluggish and heavy. Shadowedstalk stared at him expectantly. He swallowed and waded deeper.
Without a word, Shadowedstalk waded in with him. Suddenly she lunged, jumping straight for his throat. He gasped and slithered away, slumping into the water and dragging himself away. Shadowedstalk raked her claws down his back. He shrieked. He knew that she was just a spirit, but the pain was so real. He twisted, snarling, and clawed at her throat. She dodged, looking as graceful as ever even in the water. Her fangs glinted and she dove for him again.
He blocked her with his foreleg, wincing as she bit down on his paw. He scrambled onto the far bank, his ears flattened, ready for her to attack again.
Shadowedstalk stood panting in the creek. The water swirled around her legs. "You did well," she meowed, lifting her chin. "Still much room for improvement, but we'll work on it. We'll work on it."
As she spoke the last words, the Dark Forest faded from Screechthorn's vision. He closed his eyes as it melted into darkness, knowing that he would be seeing it for a long time...

**NOTE** Please do not write a random story about the Dark Forest in the comments (again, unless you completely want to.) I don't want to make you waste time typing up 500 words because you thought that's what I was asking you to do!
