*Jayfeather's intro*
Briarlight is my only real friend who isn't kin. She's sweet and she seems to understand me. She's a really good friend. She encourages me and makes me feel better if I'm discouraged. But Briarlight is only a friend. Nothing more... right?
*Briarlight's intro*
I've grown really close to Jayfeather since that tree fell on me. Maybe that incident was actually a good thing? Well, anyways, good or bad, it was my destiny- my fate. And maybe, just maybe, my destiny involves Jayfeather.
*Jayfeather's P.O.V*
Sorting herbs isn't easy when your blind. I can only rely on scent and touch. I was having a hard time for some reason, fumbling with the herbs and realizing that I'd put them in the wrong spot. "I give up!" I growled. Why am I messing up like this? I asked myself. Was it because Briarlight just came back from gathering herbs and walked into the medicine cat den with me? I sighed. I knew the reason to why I couldn't concentrate: it was because I've been meaning to tell Briarlight that I love her.
*Briarlight's P.O.V*
When I heard Jayfeather growl, I stopped sorting the herbs I'd come back with. "Are you okay, Jay?" I asked. "I just can't concentrate, that's all," he meowed casually. But this wasn't casual. He was usually really good at sorting herbs. "I'll help you." I offered. "Sure," Jayfeather nodded. We both got to work sorting the herbs he had, and the ones I just brought back. Once we finished, Jayfeather sighed. "Thanks." he said. He stared at me with his blind blue eyes, obviously lost in thought. "What is it?" I questioned. "I just wish I could see... I wish I could see you."
*Jayfeather's P.O.V*
"How come?" Briarlight asked. "Why do you want to be able to see me?" I shuffled my paws. "I wanted to be a warrior, and I can't do that if I'm blind. And I want to see you because..." I trailed off. I sighed again. Then I looked up. "Briarlight, I have something to tell you."
*Briarlight's P.O.V*
What does he want to tell me? I asked myself. "Briarlight, you've made my life much better than it could have been. You live up to your warrior name. Even though I can't see, you brought light to my world. And... I love you." Jayfeather meowed confidently. I'd lost the words to respond. It was all just a big shock! Jayfeather loves me! But he wasn't finished. "And Briarlight, I know it's against the medicine cat code but I would like you to stand by my side as my mate." I was even more antonished now. When I didn't reply, Jayfeather's face fell. "D-do you love me?" he asked. I hesitated. Then, I flung myself at him and buried my face into his chest fur. "Yes!"
Two moons later
*Jayfeather's P.O.V*
Briarlight's body convulsed into violent spasms as she gave birth. Please let her stay with me! Please let her stay with me! I prayed to Starclan. Finally, two little kits were suckling at her belly.
*Briarlight's P.O.V*
I had two kits! And they were Jayfeather's! I was so happy! The two little creatures suckled at my belly happily. I licked them vigorously, helping to clean them. Jayfeather sat next to me, a smile spread across his face. "What do they look like?" he asked me. "Well," I started. "The largest one, is a light brown tom with darker brown tabby stripes," Jayfeather nodded. "And the second one, the smallest, is a gray tabby she-kit- like you!" I purred happily. I heard rustling at the entrance of the nursery and Millie padded in. "They're so cute!" she meowed. "What are they're names?" she asked. I stared at her. "I uh, haven't thought of any yet," I replied. "Oh, guess you'll need to discuss it with the father? By the way, who is the father?" she questioned. I looked down at my paws and then my kits. "I can't say," I answered simply. Millie opened her mouth to speak but then closed it. Jayfeather got up and padded over to Millie. "Well anyways, Briarlight needs to rest so I'm going to need you to leave." he ordered. Millie cast a glance back at my kits and I, but then turned to leave. Jayfeather sat down again. "Thanks." I purred.
*Jayfeather's P.O.V*
"What are we going to name them?" I asked. "Hmm, how about Thornkit for the tom?" Briarlight replied. I nodded. "Good name. And for the she-kit?" Briarlight let out a mrrow of laughter and meowed, "Featherkit." My heart leaped. My own daughter was named after me! "They're opening their eyes!" Briarlight exclaimed. I stood up and padded closer to Briarlight, so that my head rested on her back. "What color?" I asked, and the added fearfully, "Are they blind?" It took a few heartbeats for Briarlight to respond but then she purred, "Thornkit has Amber eyes and Featherkit has blue eyes..." she hesitated. "And they're not blind!"
I defiantly ship them. That's all I can say.
