"Icestorm!" Hawkpaw stared at her with wide eyes, then looked at Beetlepaw, pleading, "Save her you have to save her!"
Beetlepaw touched his tail tip to Hawkpaw's shoulder, "She's lost to much blood, the wound on her neck is to deep to heal, I'm sorry." Hawkpaw looked at Icestorm, greif twisting his heart.
"H-Hawkpaw...you were a great apprentice...I know y-you'll make me p-proud." Icestorm chocked out, her storm colored eyes gazing into his.
"Icestorm, don't leave me, I still need you as a mentor..." Hawkpaw said, his throat sour,
Icestorm laughed slightly, "You'll be a wonderful warrior Hawkpaw" her eyes flickered and her head lolled back as she let out a sigh. The light faded from her eyes and Hawkpaw lowered his head, burying it in his old mentors snowy pelt.
"Hawkpaw." A gentle voice said, "Its time to go back to camp." He looked up to see Cloverpaw, her gaze sympathetic.
She walked beside him, and he helped the other warriors carry his mentors limp body.
It felt as though a thorn had made its way into Hawkpaw's heart, and it aches more then his wounds.
Hawkpaw was glad for Cloverpaw's reassurance, it made the pain less intense.
Time went by in a blur, his mind clouded in hazy realization of his mentors death.
"Just keep walking." Cloverpaw said, her voice full of gentle understanding.
As soon as they got to camp Hawkpaw collapsed beside his mentors body once more, blocking out the startled gasps and wails of anguish.
He looked up when a small voice said, "Hawkpaw, mind if I join you?" He turned his head to see who the cat was, a small silver kit with round blue eyes stood there, "I'm gonna miss the games she always played with me." Rainkit shuffled her paws.
Hawkpaw surprised himself and smiled, "I can play those games with you if you'd like."
Rainkit perked up a bit too, "Really, thanks!" Hawkpaw purred a bit, then the kit settled down next to him and they both held the vigil for Icestorm side by side.
