Chapter 12
Foxfang padded over from the warriors den, his orange pelt ruffled from sleep, he smirked slightly and Lightningstrike felt his ears get hot, "You two's vigil is done, if you think you guys can take care of yourselves you can go hunting."
Lightningstrike dipped his head and Rainfern laughed, "Thanks Foxfang." Lightningstrike followed Rainfern out of camp, and they padded toward the empty forest border, "There may be some voles and mice in the shade by the border."
They padded side by side, their pelts brushing as Lightnigstrike scented the crisp cold air. As they neared the border a Rainfern froze, he scented a familiar scent and perked up, padding across the border.
"Ivy are you eating Nightshade again?" Lightningstrike asked with a grin, turning the corner to see the silver and brown she-cat.
She turned and laughed, "Nope this time its deathberries."
Lightningstrike laughed and touched noses with her as a friendly gesture, "Its good to see you old friend, I must say I've missed your company the past few days, how had your moon been since I saw you last?"
Rainfern stood there, her mouth open in surprise and her ears pinned back, "Who is this?" Lightningstrike stepped back, "Ivy this is Rainfern, and Rainfern this is Ivy." Ivy dipped her head, narrowing her eyes.
Her long tail lashed and she grabbed Lightningstrikes scruff, shoving him toward a tree, "Get your tail up there this instant Lightning!" He thought about arguing, then decided it was better not to, and he scrambled up the tree, disappearing among the branches.
Ivy grinned at Rainfern, "Just give us a minute." Then she followed him up. Lightningstrike looked at her, "What's your problem?" Ivy hissed and lashed out at his face, hitting his jaw with sheathed claws.
Lightningstrike shook his head and looked at her, "Why...?"
She hissed, "You fool! Your putting that poor she-cat in danger!"
Lightningstrike tilted his head, "I would never let anything hurt her."
Ivy growled, "Its not any thing you have to worry about, you can protect her from everything, but what about yourself?!"
Lightningstrike huffed, "I would never hurt her, she's to special to me!" Ivy hissed, "You think your father is just going to leave you be?! You fool your father will never stop until you suffer a worse fate!"
Lightningstrike stared at her with wide eyes, "I-I won't let anything happen, it will be fine."
Ivy's gaze softened, "I know you love her, but you will suffer greatly for this foolishness, it won't take long for you to know about your father, not long at all."
Lightningstrike shivered at her words, "Thank you for warning me my friend, I will be careful, I swear." He leaped back out of the tree, after a quick farewell, then padded back to ThunderClan territory, "Lets continue hunting."
Rainfern stared at him, huffed, and padded after him. It was silent as they padded along, until Rainfern lost it, "Why don't you just go back to that rogue you've been spending so much time with! Just go and be with her if you like her so much." She stomped off, "Rainfern wait its not like that!" Lightningstrike said, but she was gone. He growled, cursing himself. Oh now don't blame her dear boy for your mistakes, after all you should have listened to Ivy.
Lightningstrike froze, his heart racing at the voice, don't act so surprised son, you knew I would be back, and its a pity that your precious Rainfern hates you so much.
Lightningstrike growled but the voice continued, she hates you, she lies to you, she breaks your heart, and will over and over and over until you cant take it anymore, I can help you, it just takes a simple slash of the claws to end this.
No! No, I would never hurt her! Lightningstrike thought. A strange sensation creeped over him, and it felt like he couldn't control himself anymore, he tried to fight back, but it was as if he were a prisoner in his own body.
Fine! If you cant kill, I'll just show you how much fun it is! He watched, trapped inside his head as Shadehawk forced took control of him, padding toward the stream.
Sunleap was ahead, drinking water from the stream, and Lightningstrike felt horror like a hole in his stomach. He stalked behind the old cat, and Sunleap turned to look at him, "Oh young Lightningstrike, good to see you again, wait...your eyes, were they always such a bright orange? I thought they were yellow..."
Lightningstrike lost control of himself, Shadehawk taking over. Lightningstrike laughed, "Your to smart for your own good, but that can be fixed, cant be smart when your not alive can you?"
Sunleap narrowed his eyes, "I may be old but I can tell when a cat isn't himself Shadehawk, I knew you when you were a kit. Lightningstrike, fight back, you can do it!"
I'm trying! He screamed in his head, but it was no use. "There is no Lightningstrike now, only Shadehawk!" Lightningstrike lunged, causing Sunleap to stagger back with a fierce strike.
No! Stop please! Lightningstrike screamed in his head, but he was forced to just watch as he lunged, sinking his fangs into the elders neck without mercy.
Lightningstrike watched as the elder went limp and he pushed his body into the current, watching it float away before rinsing his pelt.
The strange feeling faded and Lightningstrike could control himself once more, now you know what I can do, boy so don't forget it! Shadehawk growled with a dark laugh.
(What do you guys think, is Shadehawk better dead or alive? Comment what you think!)
