-Briarlight's POV-

Briarlight stared around the den. Icecloud was fast asleep and Jayfeather was sorting herbs silently. Leafpool was no where to be seen... An awkward silence filled the room. Briarlight was tempted to say something to him but she didn't.. So the uncomfortable silence continued.
Briarlight decided to be first to break the silence.

"Is Icecloud any better?" Briarlight meowed quietly.

"No better, no worse." Jayfeather mumbled.

"Hm..." Briarlight searched for something else to say. Jayfeather sighed and suddenly padded over to Briarlight and crouched down next to her.

"I don't want to sit in silence anymore. What do you want to talk about already?!" He meowed impatiently. Briarlight held back a giggle. 

"Ummmm I don't knooooww." Briarlight meowed mischievously.

"What's that supposed mean?" Jayfeather meowed playfully. Briarlight laughed and batted her paw at his ear. Jayfeather let out a fake snarl and pounced.

"Roar!" Jayfeather mewed making his voice high-pitched as possible. Briarlight laughed uncontrollably. Jayfeather batted his paws gently at her face. Briarlight only then realized that Jayfeather was on top of her and it probably looked like....... Jayfeather seemed to realized this too. He scrambled to his paws but still remained crouched down so he could be at the same level as Briarlight.

"You look ridiculous!" Briarlight purred. Jayfeather's fur was messy and sticking up all over the place.

"You don't look any better!" Jayfeather laughed. Briarlight nuzzled closer to him. Jayfeather nervously shifted his paws. Briarlight could smell his sweet breath as she rested her head on his shoulder. Briarlight moved her muzzle close to his. Jayfeather suddenly pulled away.

"Icecloud is waking up..." He muttered. Briarlight tried to hide her disappointment. Fox dung! I was so close to getting that kiss...

"Maybe we can talk.... somewhere else.... away from the rest of the clan... maybe sometime soon." Briarlight purred with a flirty tone.

"I'm a medicine cat still..... A-and I've always thought of you as just a close friend...." Jayfeather meowed quietly.

 Icecloud suddenly jerked her head up as though she had just woke up from a nightmare.
Jayfeather grabbed a bundle of catmint and padded. Briarlight watched him go and felt longing drag at her paws.

"Something wrong Icecloud?" Jayfeather asked.

"Nothing. Nothing at all." Icecloud replied quietly. Briarlight dragged herself out of the den to grab a piece of prey but the same thing clung to her mind the whole time. Just a close friend.... We'll see about that.
