Chapter 11
Foxflame was dreaming again, that much he knew for sure. He bolted through the forest, he didn't know why but for some strange reason fear gripped him like icy claws. It wasn't fear for himself though, it was fear for something else, it plagued his mind, but he didn't know who, or why. He yelped, skidding to a stop, sinking his claws into the ground to stop himself from smashing right into a white furred tom.
The tom growled at him bitterly and shoved him roughly out of the way, "Out of my way furball." Foxflame was shocked and even appalled by the StarClan cats behavior, thats when he realized that this cat didn't have stars in his fur. This cat had shadows that swirled off his pelt and around his paws, and a soft trampling noise met Foxflame's ears before more cats spilled after him, most of them ignoring him, and a few pausing just to snarl, or sniff rudely.
Foxflame pinned his ears, bewildered at what was happening, without fully thinking through his idea, he leaped in front of a tortoiseshell she-cat, "Whats going on here?" The she-cat hissed furiously and spat, "If I wasn't under truce I would shred your pretty pelt, StarClan and the Dark Forest are holding a meeting mouse-brain!"
With that she shoved past him, and Foxflame whirled around to see her tail disappear through the ferns. "What are you waiting for, your invited as well Foxflame." He jumped and whipped back around on his tip-toes, his spine arched in surprise as he stared at a familiar cat. He gaped at the tom, and it took a heartbeat until he was able to affectively use his voice, "Sp-Sparrowstrike!'
The black warrior grinned and nudged him, "Go on now before the meeting starts without you!" Foxflame snapped his jaw shut and nodded, hesitating briefly before plunging after where the dark cats had gone, their rotten scent almost impossible to miss. He slowed his pace as he heard voices ahead, poking his head through the brambles he saw the dark cats huddled in one part of a starlit clearing, the other end filled with StarClan cats, a fine line of space between the two groups.
Foxflame awkwardly padded over to sit next to a tabby StarClan cat, looking up at the large tree before them, its leaves were the color of rich newleaf green under the starlit sky. A blue furred she-cat strode up to the tree and leaped up gracefully to one of the largest branches, and a large ragged tom, covered in scars clawed his way up to a different branch. The two cats from different parts of the afterlife nodded to eachother and meowed at the same time, "Let the meeting begin!"
The she-cat swept her icy gaze across the cats in the clearing, "Let us get straight to business, StarClan knows what you Dark Forest cats are planning, and I strongly disagree." Foxflame had absolutely no clue what was happening, and a harsh, raspy laugh carried through the clearing, the ragged tom stared defiantly at the blue she-cat, "Of course you disagree Spiritstar."
Spiritstar bristled and meowed, "You know that Shadowspirit is good at heart, even if she is gifted, you won't be able to get help from her without using you-know-what, Fangstar." The dark forest cats bristled from where they were, and Fangstar smirked, "Oh we are going to get her to help us, after all, you know we cannot make it down to the forest without the death-bringer's power! Of course we will use the DarkStone!"
The StarClan cats flinched at the word DarkStone, but all Foxflame could think was how they were talking about Shadowspirit, was she alive?! Spiritstar unsheathed her claws, "We will not let you use the DarkStone, you can only use it once and it would be wasted if you did!" The StarClan cats yowled in agreement. "Your a fool Spiritstar! You cannot stop us!" Fangstar growled loudly.
Spiritstar spat angrily at Fangstar, her icy gaze settling on Foxflame, "Foxflame you are here to tell me, I know you have seen both sides of Shadowspirit," He flinched as the memory of her delivering the cruel kill-blow to Mintbreeze, the darkness in her eyes, "tell us, is she good at heart? No cat knows better then you."
He gulped as countless eyes turned to him, burning his pelt, I don't know whats happening, but all I do know is that they need me to say whether or not I think she is good, and I have to tell the truth. Foxflame stood, surprised at how steady his voice sounded as he meowed, "It is true that the last time I saw Shadowspirit, I saw a darkness in her eyes that scared me truthfully, but afterwards I saw true grief for what she had done. I believe every cat has darkness in them, although some more then others, I think she is good in heart, because it takes a good cat to feel grief, sadness, pity, mercy, she truly felt bad for what she had done, I believe Shadowspirit is good."
Fangstar smirked, his gaze burning into Foxflames, but he returned it calmly, not flinching even as Fangstar growled in a gravel-like voice, "Your a fool, she will be the death of you, she will be darkness." Foxfame dug his claws into the earth and meowed levelly, "I may be a fool, but at least I have a sense of loyalty and compassion." Fangstar looked taken aback, as if no cat has spoken to him in that way. Spiritstar dipped her head to him, a hint of admiration glimmering within her gaze, "Well said young Foxflame." The forest around him began to slowly fade, leaving him looking around in shock for a moment before he spiraled into darkness.
Foxflame groaned and blinked open his eyes to voices all around him, "He's awake! Hey Foxflame can you hear me?" He blinked the blur of sleep from his eyes to see Fawnpaw gazing down at him with a concerned face, turning his head he realized he was in the warriors den, and a small crowd of cats stared at him from outside the empty den. "Yeah, whats wrong did I sleep in or something?"
He sat up, feeling awkward under the stares of the cats who crowded outside the den, "Uhhh, something the matter?" Fawnpaw blinked, sniffing his pelt, her eyes bright with concern, "In your sleep, you were twitching and no cat could get you to wake up, so they came and got me, by the time I got here you went still." He tilted his head, dread tugging at his thoughts, "W-What do you mean?"
Her eyes were dead serious, "I mean, you were dead Foxflame, you stopped breathing, your heart stopped beating for a while, you were dreaming, what happened in your dream?" He stared at her in blank surprise, then raked his brain for memory before answering truthfully, "I know I was dreaming... but I-I can't remember what about, I really can't."
