2 | Wolf attack

CHAPTER TWO
Wolf attack

--

SCOTT MCCALL SHOOK HIS HEAD AT HIS CHEMISTRY NOTEBOOK, TURNING TO SPEAK TO STILES. He thought over what he was about to say before voicing it to his best friend. "What if it was my blood on the door?"

"Could have been animal blood. Y'know, maybe you caught a rabbit or something?" Stiles suggests, looking up from his Chem work.

"And did what?" The oblivious boy asked.

"Ate it." Stiles answered with an eye roll.

"Raw?"

"No, you stopped to bake it in a little werewolf oven." The sarcasm in his voice highlighting the stupidity in the question. "I don't know, your the one who can't remember anything."

"Mr Stilinski! If that's your idea of a hushed whisper, you might want to pull the headphones out every once in a while." Mr Harris announces to the class, a smug grin on his face. "I think you and Mr McCall would benefit from a little distance, yes?"

"No!" The buzzcut boy whines, but then proceeds to follow the teachers direction to his new seat, as does McCall rather begrudgingly, move next to a girl in the front.

"Let me know if the separation anxiety gets to be too much." Harris says almost cheerfully, the principle then walks into the classroom. Silent for a few minutes as he looks around the students through his small glasses, turning back and gesturing for someone to come in.

Stiles' interest is immediately captured by the new arrival, the short, chocolate haired boy was stood with a shy smile, his slightly tanned arms folded against each other in an anxious manner. The boy didn't have his journal in his hands, he seemed to be lost without it.

"Class, we have a new student, please welcome Nox King." Harris finally announced after having a short, hushed conversation with the principle. The young boy, with all the attention on him, mustered a small wave to the class. "You can have a seat next to Lahey." Said curly haired giant raised his hand, Nox quickly scrambling to sit down.

It just so happened, that the new boy was seated right in front of Stiles. The buzzcut boy kicked the seat in front of him, gaining the smaller boy's attention. "Hey!" He said in a hushed whisper, a smile on his face.

"H-hey." Nox smiles back, getting out his Chem books, Stiles could see that in his bag was the roughed up leather journal, and once again his curiosity peaked.

"You two know each other?" Lahey asked from his seat, looking between the pair in confusion.

"Y-yeah... we.. erm met at the game.. The other night." The tanned boy says, his antisocial behaviour was evident in the way he spoke. Even Lahey spoke with more confidence than this kid.

"Yep! He was writing in a journal, seemed interesting." Stiles answered, giving the King boy a pointed look. The boy sputtered, shaking his hands profusely.

"It's nothing t-that interesting!" The boy stammered, avoiding eye contact and looking back down at his Chem books. Stiles huffed, figuring he won't get anything out of the newcomer about his journal.

The giant boy and the small King spoke in hushed whispers for the rest of the class, the pair seeming to get along very well.

"Hey, I think they've found something!" The girl next to Scott stood up and made her way to the window, the rest of the class following.

"Is t-that about the bus incident?" The new boy asked Isaac nervously, who just nodded his head and walked over to get a view of the window. Stiles couldn't help but notice the look of panic on Nox's face as he rushed to get a view of the window.

A stretcher was being pulled to an ambulance, it looked as if they had found a body.

"That's not a rabbit." Scott says to Stiles, worry taking over his face.

The man jerked upwards in one fluid movement. The sudden, horror-like action cause most of the class to erupt in screams. However, Scott takes a few steps back.

"This is good, this is good. He got up, he's not dead." Stiles tried to reassure his friend, his own voice slightly shaky at the realisation of the situation. "Dead guys can't do that!"

"Stiles." Scott looked to his best friend, shock all over his face at the scene that just occurred. "I did that."

Unbeknownst by the pair, Nox watched the two converse, being thankful for the pair's terrible whispering. The dark chocolaty haired boy sighed out in relief.

--

"Hey Nox! Come sit with us!" Allison shouted to her fellow new kid, gesturing to the empty seat across from her. The new kid froze, tray in hand, before deciding to quickly take a seat next to the Stilinski boy.

"What's he doing here." Jackson sneered the question.

"He's cute, that's why." Lydia shrugs from beside her boyfriend, a smug smile on her face.

"Erm thanks?" The ravenette rubbed his neck, a bashful look on his face. As he picked at the cafeteria mashed potatoes, he looked up at the crowd. "So what d-do we think happened?"

"I hear them saying it's some type of animal attack." Danny states grabbing a luscious green apple. "Probably a cougar?"

"I heard mountain lion." Jackson states, his dumbass response earning an eye roll from a few.

"A cougar is a mountain lion." Lydia states, Jackson sends her a look, to which she puts a dopey grin on her face and in a giggly voice she asks "isn't it?"

"Yeah, it is." Nox roles his eyes at the toxic fumes basically radiating from that relationship. "B-besides... It looks more like a wolf attack."

Scott's head shot up in panic as Stiles quickly butted into the conversation. "There are no wolves in California, haven't been in nearly sixty years!"

"Been a lot of alleged sightings though." The boy shrugged, eating a red apple from his tray.

"Who cares? The guy's probably some homeless tweaker who was gonna die anyway."

"Actually I just found out who it is." Stiles states as he places his phone in view of the table, a news report of the investigation on the screen. "Check it out."

The news reel plays and the victims picture and name was released.

"I-I know this guy!" Scott says, the shock evident on his face.

"Yeah, he's the bus driver who drove me into town." Nox added, his head down poking at his food. "He was pretty superstitious."

"Yeah, I knew him when I used to get the bus when I lived with my dad." Scott said, the crowd looking at the pair in shock.

"Let's talk about something more fun, shall we?" Lydia asks, though it wasn't up for debate.

Nox's phone buzzed on the table, Stiles looked over, utterly surprised to see that the boy had recieved a text from Derek Hale. The young King snatched up his phone, sending a harsh look in Stiles' direction. "Sorry, I gotta go, cya!"

The boy rushed off, throwing his food in the bin on his way out.

"Oh, well bye!" Danny calls back, half waving to the boy who couldn't see him. "Wonder what that was about?"

"Probably some nerd stuff, he seems like the type." Jackson laughs, although no one laughs along with him.

"Anyway," Lydia starts in her cheery voice. "What are we doing tomorrow night?" She turns to Allison and Scott, who look at her in confusion. "You said you and Scott were hanging out tomorrow night, right?

"Erm, we were thinking of what we were going to do..." Allison starts, looking at Scott for help.

"Well, I am not sitting home again watching lacrosse videos, so if the four of us are hanging out, we're doing something fun!"

"H-hanging out? Like the four of us?" Scott stutters over the information, looking between Stiles and Allison for an indication of what was going on. Stiles just facepalms as Scott turns to Allison. "Do you want to hang out like, us and... them?"

"Well, yeah, I guess, it sounds fun." She answers, looking to the other couple.

"You know what else sounds fun? Stabbing myself in the face with this fork."

Stiles raised his eyebrows in mock surprise at that statement. He turns his head and looks to the empty seat beside him, noticing a particular bag on the floor.

Nox's bag. The one with the journal.

Stiles looks up, noticing the conversation was very clearly no where near to affecting him, so he sneakily opened the bag taking out the journal and placing it in his own, zipping the bag back up just in time to see Scott lie his ass off.

"In fact, I'm a great bowler."

--

"You're a terrible bowler!"

"I know! I'm such an idiot!"

"God, it was like watching a car wreck, I mean, first it turns into the whole group date thing, and then out of nowhere comes that phrase."

"Hanging out!"

Stiles had his head in his hands as he walked, having two bags on his back meant he had to keep re-adjusting the straps.

"You don't hang out with hot girls, okay? It's like death, once it's hanging out you might as well be her gay best friend, you and Danny can start hanging out." Stiles snarks, adjusting the straps once again.

"How is this happening, I either killed a guy or I didn't."

"I don't think Danny likes me very much."

"I asked Allison on a date, and now we're hanging out."

"Am I not attractive to gay guys?"

"I got first line and the team captain wants to destroy me, and... I'm gonna be late for work!" Scott rushes off, Stiles reaches out for him, remembering what information he had to share with the wolf boy.

"Scott! Wait- I've got the... weird kid's journal." He sighed, slumping his shoulders. Both bags fell off his shoulders at the actions, Stiles letting out a frustrated groan.

--

Hours later into the evening, Scott was long into his shift at work, leaving Stiles to investigate the King boy on his own.

The buzzcut boy was sat out in the woods, just a bit a way from his jeep. He sat cross legged on the floor, staring at the journal in front of him. He grabbed the thing and tried to pry it open, failing miserably.

He had been doing this for about an hour, trying all different ways to open the book, unlocking the latch, pulling it open, breaking the lock. The hell, is this thing super glued shut?

He stood up, book in hand, letting out a frustrated cry as he roughly threw the thing a couple feet ahead of him, the fading light making it just about visible amongst the dirt.

"Stupid thing, just another crazy gimic from another psycho." Stiles huffed as he walked back over to his jeep, about to get in when he was stopped by a distinctive sound.

Click.

He looked back over to the leather journal, and sure enough, the book was open on the ground. Stiles quickly ran over to the book, skidding on his knees, not caring for his dirtied jeans.

He looked over the book, the page that had opened. Detailed drawings of a creature, more specifically a wolf. The heading was in some sort of language the boy could only decipher as gibberish, as were the rest of the words.

"Epicyon Haydeni? The hell is this kid on?" Stiles muttered to himself, his eyes scanned over the pictures, being the only thing he could really read. At the bottom of the page there was a scale, the wolf creature standing next to a human... It's as big as a horse.

Stiles was looking over the pictures on the page, about to turn to the next page, his hand skimming to the corner ready to grab it. His eyes noticing a very distinctive inscription under one of the picture, seeming important.

"Vinculum fratris, perenni cremer igne seorsum."

A slimy feeling coated his hand, making him turn up his nose in disgust. Looking over he saw a clear like substance had dripped onto the back of his hand, reaching to wipe it off, more dripped onto his sleeve. The hot breath of a large creature hitting the back of his neck.

He froze, slowly turning, eyes wide and fearful. I'm going to die, I'm going to die.

He came face to face with the luminous red eyes of a gigantic beast.
