chapter 4
The next morning Jim was up ready and packed for the long journey. He noticed their young friend wasn't there. He probably wasn't out of bed yet. Jim hated to wake a sleeping warlock, but they needed to get moving to Zeta's castle. The three of them went to Yorku's cottage to get him moving. Jim went inside and shook him a little.
"Get up, we have to get going." Jim told him in a firm tone.
"I'm awake." Grumbled the half asleep warlock, shielding his eyes from the sunlight.
"Yorku, are you feeling okay?" Jim asked a little concerned for his friend.
"I'll be fine. I think I'm just exhausted from the last few days is all." He explained to Jim as he got out of bed and got his things packed for the long journey.
Jim just simply nodded, even though he was still worried. Yorku looked thin, weak and pale, but he let the thought go. They had bigger things to worry about right now. It didn't take more than fifteen minutes for the young warlock to be up and ready to go. They walked out of the cottage, Richard and Daniel were waiting for them. The warlock Brethren started heading the long journey to the witches castle.
'Are you guys ready for this little nature walk of ours?" Jim asked trying to make conversation. None of them were all that talkative. Richard knew this would be more than a little nature walk. When Jim made thr traveling plans it was never a short walk anywhere. The four of them hiked east through their forest. It was full of creatures scurrying or flying everywhere. They even saw a few faries zipping through the forest, a gnome gathering fire wood and the birds were up high above them, singing and making a large nest.
It was really interesting to see. Daniel smiled as he looked above them. As they walked for the next three hours, the warlocks went through the forest, thinking about their current mission. Who sent these demonic beings? Why would anyone want to do that to anyone. Once they had walked through the next two villages, the brethren all agreed to take a small break. They were already getting worn out but they had to keep going. They had questions and with any luck Zeta would have some answers. The four of them found a nice elm tree to sit under to rest.
"So, Jim how further is it to zeta's?" Richard asked.
"We still have a long way to go before we reach her enormous castle." Jim answered him. After a few minutes the four of them got up, ready to go see the witch. The four of them walked through a few more villages. The townspeople were very friendly, nice down home folks. Several times someone would stop to see if they were passing through or in need of any assistance. It was nice to see people so nice. The villages were a lot like their own, but with different shops and markets. There were a few booths selling pottery and hand made quilts, jewelry and little trinkets here and there. It was a nice place, then as they got through another village they saw a huge mystic forest and it was filled with nature sprites, fairies and trolls.
They even spotted a hobgoblin. It was a very long walk through the forest, but for the most part an enjoyable late afternoon. As they reached the edge of the forest they could see the most breath taking, enormous castle. Daniel was more than impressed with it. It looked like something out of a dream or vision. It took them a while longer to reach the huge iron door of the castle. Jim knocked on the huge door. He and the others waited a moment. Slowly the door creaked open and there was a short little fellow, possibly a dwarf.
"May I help you gentlemen?" asked the dwarf looking fellow.
"Yes, we wish to seek council with Zeta."
"Come in, I shall go get her for you." Spoke the little fellow as he wobbled down the hall way. It took him less than ten minutes to get his mistress. She was tall and slender but with the right curves, she had the face of a porcelain doll. She wore a soft blue dress that looked ravishing on her. Zeta had long flowing hair the color of a raven. Her eyes were a dark honey shade. Daniel thought he was going to be lost in those soul piercing eyes of hers. He looked away quickly before anyone noticed him staring at her.
"Madam Zeta thank you so much for seeing us." Jim spoke with kindness and an affectionate tone.
"It is my honor, you are my guests this evening. You are well known around here. I have heard of the work you do. There is a demonic attack on your land?" She spoke with confidence.
"Wow she is good." Richard blurted out. "Yes zeta, we have a demon problem and need your help. I'm Jim, the loud mouth over there is Richard. This young warlock is yorku and-" That's when Zeta interrupted him.
"You must be Daniel. Your potions are famous around here. It is great to meet you." She tried not to blush when Daniel smiled back.
The warlocks followed her down a long hallway with exquisite stone marble floors. Zeta opened a large mahogany door. When they stepped in to the library it was amazing. The entire room was a fully stocked floor to ceiling library. It was full of nothing but books on magic. She had everything from dream magic to demonic possession.
Daniel felt as if he would faint at any given moment. He loved this room. If he were to drop dead he would choose this room to spend eternity. He adored this room. Zeta could see it in his eyes. She walked over to him and gently whispered in to his ear, "When this is all over I'd like to have you come back for a private tour of the castle."
"I would absolutely love to." Daniel whispered back to her with a delighted smile. Then he went over with the others to research everything they could find on underworld demon attacks. A crinckled and very old piece of paper fell out of the book Jim was reading . He bent down to pick it up.It read ancient protector. He took it over to the witch to ask her about it.
"Jim I believe you have just found what you are looking for, a demon hunter. That spell is to conjure him." Zeta explained to him. She was proud of them. Most can't find what they seek. The library has it's own enchantment. If one is not pure of heart, they won't know where to start.
"Before I help you conjure the hunter, you must know if you mistreat him, you'll pay with your lives. His rules, not mine." The four nodded in agreement, and Zeta began to gather the magical items she would need to perform a conjuring ritual. The warlocks stood back and watched her perform the incantation. Once the ritual was performed she closed the circle and thanked the guides for their help. Suddenly a silver and black mist appeared before them in the library. When the fog dissipated the demon hunter stood before them. He was twice the size of the average person, covered in thick black and silver armor. He looked like an over sized warrior, ready to take out anything that stood in his way.
His name was Garutu, demonic warrior. There was no creature living or dead that was better equipped for this mission. The warlocks were confident that they had the upper hand in this battle to save their home land and restore peace. They thanked Zeta again for her kindness, hospitality and help. The warlocks all said good bye to her, and headed out with the demon warrior. They walked late in the evening through the forest to save their home, their friends and their way of life.
Garutu was a quiet creature. Daniel had tried to say hello but all he got was one phrase out of him. "Kill the demons. Protect the people." Daniel gave up, becoming silent through the long walk back. Jim felt the same way as the demon warrior, he just wanted to get rid of this demonic infestation and be done with it.
Daniel and Richard were a few feet behind the rest of them, discussing Madam Zeta, her castle and that exstensive library.
"You like her don't you?" Richard asked him.
"I'm not sure, I can't stop thinking about her." Daniel replied to his friend.
"I'm happy for you. So did you talk to her?"
"Yes, she offered me a private tour of the library and her castle." Daniel told him with a great big smile.
"When will you go see her?"
"I suppose whenever we get through this demon issue, when things are calmed down." Daniel replied to him.
