chapter 11
Stergis was busy in his underground lair working on a few potions. He was also trying to figure out the voice he had been hearing lately. He knew it wasn't madness far from it. He had even conjured a few shadow dancers to see if he could locate the origin of the whispering woman. The shadow dancers revealed only that it was coming from a different reality than his own. That information made him want to find her even more, he was curious about the voice and who it belonged to. He started to research other realms and then conjuring up dark spies to help him find her. He also couldn't fully understand why he felt compelled to help this maiden whoever she is. He wasn't much on helping anyone. He also felt the brethren now were no longer a threat. They were even. They destroyed his world, he simply returned the favor. He felt this whispering mystery held more of his attention.
"Help, I'm lost and I don't belong here. I'd do anything to go home." Whispered the voice through the winds. He didn't know if it would work or not but he tried to answer the mysterious voice.
"Where are you?" He asked, then repeated the question.
"In the human world, a mental hospital." The voice replied.
"Who are you?" He asked hoping to get enough information to help her.
"The dark sorceress Ravenessa." The voice disappeared in the cool night air. Once he had enough information, Stergis planned to find her. He needed to do this. He wanted to save this sorceress. Lost in thought, he suddenly had a moment of vrillance. He started checking his supplies. He then headed for his magic cauldron. He began mixing ingridents and chanting with a force of energy that even he didn't understand. What was this force pulling him to a woman he hadn't even met? What if it turned out to be nothing? Could it possibly be a trap set for him? It couldn't be, his enemies were not that bright. He was being pulled to her for a reason. He just wished he knew what that reason would be. All he knew is that it felt like an obsession. If it is this strong, he had to investigate. He had to figure this out. He went over his journals, he wrote down everything. Stergis needed to make sure he had everything he would need for the journey to the other reality. First he was making sure that he knew a way back home. He hoped that he wouldn't be gone for too long, he hated to be out of the lair more than he needed to be.
He liked his lair of darkness, he enjoyed his quiet and peaceful sanctuary. He loved his solitude, ever since the death of Veronia. It was so foreign to him, being worried and worked up over a stranger like this. As the hours seem to pass with unimaginable speed, he began to clear his thoughts for a moment and then he started to pack for this little quest. He thought for a long time about what he might need. Once he had a cup of spirit ale, he grabbed his things and headed into the forest to find the magic portal.
Back in the forest Richard and Daniel were on a nature hike when suddenly they heard the whispering in the winds. Richard gave him a pleading look.
"I still think that it's a trap." Daniel firmly told Richard.
"What if it's not a trap? What if there is some poor woman out there trapped or hurt and we do nothing? What, out of fear, wer'e the warlock brethren." Richard spoke with a passion and fury he seldom showed before now.
"Two of us are dead." Daniel replied in anger.
Then Daniel heard something, turned to look and saw something dart past them in the enchanted forest. It looked to be human, or close to it. He motioned to Richard to follow in silence, through the thick trees and fallen rocks. They followed the guy in the woods with caution. They had no idea where they would end up or what they might be up against. For the time being, the guy or whatever he was didn't seem to notice that they were following him. The warlocks were hoping to figure out where he was going before it led to trouble. The two warlocks peered at him from afar as the fellow stopped at the southern stream near an old oak tree. Richard wasn't sure if he should say anything to the fellow out near the stream, but before he had a chance to do so the guy vanished right before their eyes. It was unbelievable. Daniel was astonished by what the two of them had just seen.
"Daniel, did that man just disappear in front of your eyes too?" Richard asked, slightly in shock. Daniel nodded yes to his friend.
"What was that? " Richard asked with a curiosity like a child.
"I don't know but I'd say we should investigate and see where it leads." Daniel suggested, witch made Richard grin. His battle instincts were ready for any kind of an adventure. The two of them nodded to each other and headed to the same spot near the stream where they saw the other guy. They didn't know what to expect from this, if anything at all. The two warlocks stood in the exact same spot and suddenly the ground was no longer there, they were thrown into a vortex at maximum speed. They were surrounded by a bright white, blue and purple light. By the time all the colors melded together, the two of them were dropped in the strangest place they had ever seen.
It was more than a little foreign to them. This was the largest village they had ever laid eyes on. It was gigantic and full of people in a hurry. It seemed like they were all late for something. Both Daniel and Richard began to feel intimidated by the mass of this place. They were trying to adjust to being in this strange new world when out of the corner of his eye Daniel spotted the stranger from the woods. The fellow was weaving through the crowds of people.
"Richard there he is, we need to follow him." Daniel commanded and his friend did as he was asked. The two of them ran at lightning speed to catch up to the stranger from their forest. The stranger still didn't seem to know he was being followed. Richard and Daniel both wanted to know who this fellow was, where he was headed and why he would travel so far away to get to it. They had almost caught up to him when the stranger darted around a sharp corner. They didn't care how or when but they were going to catch him. What if this guy was one of those demons? What if this fellow knows how to stop them? Daniel began to wonder, he then told himself to focus.
Being the true warrior that he was Richard had no intention of letting this guy go until he got some answers. Like why this guy has been lurking in their enchanted woods to begin with. Just before the strange fellow tried to turn another corner, Richard snatched him off the ground by the back of his neck, almost like he were a kitten.
"Now sir if you don't mind we have a few questions for you." Richard spoke in the most sarcastic tone he could come up with. Daniel just then caught up with his only remaining brethren.
