chapter 10
Stergis had set aside his fury with the warlock brethren for the time being. He was overly curious about the cries for help my the mystery woman. If there were people trapped somewhere, that's horrible. He had been working night and day trying to figure out who this woman was and where she might be. He wondered if she were human, elf or possibly a female demon? Maybe some kind of shifter, like a she wolf?
He had no idea but was bound and determined to find out. He checked his majestic mirror with no luck. Then he researched wind magic and found nothing. He tried white magic. Then he attempted astral messaging, rune magic and crystal magic, it did nothing to help. He went on like this for days and nights. He tried conjuring a few evil spirits to help him. It seemed like he wasn't going to figure it out. If he spent the rest of his life trying, he'd never find the answer. That night pure exhaustion took over as he slept. He heard the voice again. It was getting stronger and more frequent. As he fell into a deep sleep, he heard the voice again. She had a beautiful voice.
"Help me, I'm lost." He heard it a few times, then a few minutes later he heard it again.
"Southern stream near the elder oak tree, there's a portal." His eyes widened with recognition. He knew what she meant.
"Please come find me."
Stergis jolted upright from a dead sleep breathing hard and covered in sweat. It took him over ten minutes to regulate his breathing. He got out of bed and made himself a magical tea to help him sleep. It took over an hour, but the drink finally did the job.
Ravenessa had been sleeping in a lot more lately, she had been through a lot in the last few days. She was frusterated over screwing up the travel spell, getting lost and there wasn't a damn thing she could do about it. He magic didn't work and she couldn't figure out why. The only bright side was her friend George. He had offered to introduce her to some of the others and she couldn't wait.
This place would bore the sanity out of anyone long before it would cure you. She had stopped taking the magic pill when her dwarf buddy told her to. George reminded her of a wise old shaman from her home. It was a comfort to her. She tried another meditation and nothing worked. The dark sorceress kept trying different ones from memory but nothing happened. Out of frustration and anger she gave up and waited for their social hour so she could brainstorm with George. There had to be a way out she just knew it. She had only to find the answer. After a lot of time thinking of what to do she headed to the social room to wait for the dwarf. She found a table close to the door to make it easier on him, his legs ached from arthritis, some kind of disease in this reality.
Even in the short time she had been here, she noticed his walking had gotten worse. It was like he was aging daily. She knew what the problem was, he needed to get home and soon. If it had been any other being in the universe she wouldn't have given it a second thought. She would have told them to deal with their own problem. This was George, he was different. Her dwarf would get home, he had to.
She promised him and she would keep that promise, though she didn't know how she would do it. It seemed like an eternity but she finally saw George slowly open the door and hobble over to sit with his friend the sorceress. It took him a few minutes to catch his breath, then spoke to her.
"Ravenessa dear there you are." He spoke.
"Hello George, I'm glad I got to see you."
"Did you meditate?" He asked curiously.
"Yes I did but I got nowhere with it. If there is a way into this realm, there must be a way out." She admitted with a sadness to her.
"You're right, there has to be a way out." He spoke in a soft tone.
Her eyes widened as she finally had a damn good idea. She grabbed George by the shoulders, and gave a wicked grin. "George if there is a way in then there must be a way out."
"Yes of course dear what are you getting at?" He asked puzzled by her excitement.
"If there is a portal in there is one to get out."
"How do we find it?" He asked.
"I'd start looking near the portal you fell into. There has to be one somewhere close for so many of us to end up here." She stated.
"One more thing sweetheart, how do we get out of this hell hole?" George asked flatly.
"I'm working on that plan." She answered him.
She wished that she could just do a spell and whisk them all home now. She knew that wasn't going to happen. She spent most of the evening with George, he had introduced her to a few of the others that made the same mistake. The first was an older woman. She was in here because she could hear voices all the time
. It wasn't anything dangerous, it was the other people in her home world looking for her, calling her back to them. The whispering voices told her to tell the doctors nothing. She did as they asked. Then George took her over to meet a few others from their world. One guy was a troll in their home land. A younger guy was a shifter, normally a gargoyle. She felt bad for them, all were trapped here between the realms. They were now the lost children of magic ways.
That night Ravenessa went to sleep much earlier than normal, as if divine intervention had willed her to do so. It didn't take more than a few minutes for sleep to claim her. She began to dream of her home again.
