Chapter 2: Meet The Aussie Larrikin
It was now nine o'clock when I finally awoken, feeling as if I had recovered from everything that went on in the early morning. I walked out of the airport and thought to myself,
Karla: "Should I take a taxi or should I walk into the centre of town?... Eh, I'd rather not spend any money, I can tolerate a half an hour walk".
I also thought that by walking, I'd be more likely to spot the WarioWare characters and speak to them straight away. My suitcases were on wheels and so I had no problems lugging them about as I headed into the city.
Just on the border of the city, I recognised two characters and they were Dribble and Spitz who owned the local taxi business. At first, I was hesitant to speak to them; my elixir had worn off, taking my previous confidence with it. Then I thought,
Karla: "But they know 18-Volt, you ask them because it could be now or never".
Little did I know that I was talking to myself very loudly as Dribble turned his back from the conversation with Spitz and he goes to me,
Spitz: "Hey there, you lookin' for 18-Volt?".
I was certainly caught unaware. In hesitation again, I said
Karla: "Ah, oh yeah... Do you know where he could be?".
Then Spitz turned and looked at me as well, both of them slowly shaking their heads. They knew where 18-Volt was but the answer wasn't quite going to be a good one for me.
Dribble: "Aw shucks, sorry ma'am but he's at school".
My eyes widened in shock.
Karla: "What the? At school!?"
but then suddenly stopping myself. Not realising that Dribble and Spitz could here me, I said to myself,
Karla: "Of course he's at school you dim witted dodo. You own the WarioWare games, you know he's in the 4th grade!".
Rather than Dribble looking at me in shocked, he looked at me at amazement and then Spitz pointed at me.
Spitz: "Ey, are you a citizen from the real world?".
I nodded indeed.
Dribble: "Wow, that's cool! So are you a fan or somethin'?".
I explained to them that although I was a fan, I had a much bigger purpose and Dribble and Spitz were marvelling at the stories they were hearing. Dribble kindly said that he would pass word onto 18-Volt the next time he saw him but then he asked me what I was going to do for the rest of the day that 18-Volt was at school.
Karla: "Well, in the meantime, I've got some interrogation work to do"
Spitz: "Hehe, on a mission, good luck".
Dribble: "Yeah, good luck! But don't you think those suitcases would be weighin' you down?".
I thought to myself...
Karla: "You're right, what if you have to run after Grey 5-Volt? You need to have the arms in place to hopefully catch her and arrest her"
Dribble and Spitz laughed at what they heard me saying to myself again.
Karla: "Oh, you guys heard what I said hey? Um, just don't tell 18-Volt or even 9-Volt what I'm doing, I want it to be a surprise".
Dribble: "Don't worry, we won't. We'll just tell them that there's a girl in a blue stripy dress that's lookin' for 18-Volt".
They then offered me to keep my suitcase in their taxi business office for the day, with me coming back to collect the suitcases just before nightfall.
That's not all that Dribble and Spitz were going to do for me. They realised that I had come from Australia and didn't have any of the correct money on me, so they asked how I was going to survive.
Karla: "Eh, I don't know... I guess I could survive on my magic elixir for a day... But then I want to keep it for the really desperate times".
That's when Dribble and Spitz then actually gained the most horrified looks on their faces...
Dribble: "Say that again!?".
Karla (thinking); "whoops, I said too much...".
Rather then having me explain myself in the middle of the street, they invited me to go back with them to their office and I would do my show and tell there.
I put my suitcases into the back room of reception and then waited for Dribble and Spitz to come and join me, after they had finished with their current phone call. It felt like ages but apparently the call had only lasted for five minutes.
Dribble: "Now show us what you've got!"
Karla: "The magic stuff only occupies one suitcase" I said as I unzipped the suitcase which I wrote the number 2 on.
Karla: "You see that blue stuff in there? That's one half of the magic elixir and then the other half lies in that packet of dehydrated salt".
Spitz: "Dehydrated salt? Never heard of that before".
Karla: "It's just really finely ground salt that has less minerals in it than normal salt, but I don't want to drink the stuff now, it does some very weird things... But I'll show you some other stuff!"
As I went on with my show and tell, Dribble and Spitz were looking less and less freaked out, and rather more fascinated with what I had and who I was. As I was throwing stuff out of my suitcase;
Karla: "This is my magic pen, this is my dream journal, this is my magic journal, and this is my egg floss... Oh dear, you don't need to see that".
Dribble: "That's just ordinary floss".
I nodded in humiliation.
Karla: "That's why you didn't need to see it. It's just my bloomin' tooth floss with a case that's the shape of an egg".
Dribble and Spitz laughed
Dribble:""Well I think everyone could do with a handy packet of egg floss, especially for those with the canines like me".
Once I was done with my show and tell, Dribble and Spitz then asked me how I was going to carry my essential items around, things such as money, water and food. "Err...", I stood there pondering,
Karla: "I'm actually not quite sure what I would want to do with that. I certainly didn't think about bringing any small bags within these two big bags".
It seemed to be okay though, Dribble and Spitz told me to wait as they went to get something for me. On arrival, they said to me,
Dribble: "Hey uh, we seem to be great friends already, why don't you take this as welcome gesture from us?".
I was lost for words and actually quite surprised that Dribble and Spitz were showing such great hospitality when I had only met them for an hour or two.
Karla: "Are you sure?"
Dribble: "Yeah! Welcome to Diamond City! And we put some bucks in there too so can go and grab some lunch and other small goodies. You pack what you want in there and then we'll be back to lock your suitcases up".
Then they left me for a while to attend to some more phone calls and fill in the books for their taxi accounts. Meanwhile, I got busy packing and transferring some of items over from the suitcases to my newly owned backpack. I thought to myself,
Karla: "I never go anywhere without my magic journal"
which was in simpler terms, my waking life journal and this was one place where I could communicate with my guards at any time, the message would be relayed straight to Sindo at the crystal ball as soon as I signed the page off. As I was only going to be out for the day, I figured that my dream journal could remain in the suitcase.
Karla: "There isn't much else I need to take",
I thought but then I remember that I could encounter Grey 5-Volt at any moment, so I had to ask another favour of Dribble and Spitz.
I quietly crept into the front reception area, only to find that they were inundated with another phone call and this time, it seemed like a stressful one, with Dribble talking and Spitz sitting beside him, giving him all these cues and prompts. I wanted to get going as soon as possible and so I had to find a way to get Spitz's attention.
Karla: "Uh... Err... Urgh...",
I mumbled, not sure of what to say as I also did feel bad for interrupting. Thankfully though, Spitz turned to me and asked what I wanted, so I asked him for a glass and a spoon. He seemed fine that I wanted a glass but he asked me why I wanted the spoon; he probably thinks I wanted a glass of water.
Karla: "Remember that magic elixir I told you about? I want to make some", then Spitz finally and happily complied with my request.
Spitz got me to follow him into the kitchen as he said he wanted to see me make it. I thought it was okay and that he wouldn't be too freaked out because he saw my other magic tools along with Dribble beforehand. I quickly ran back into the room to get the storage containers of blue solution and dehydrated salt and then rushed back into the kitchen. As I ran past Dribble, he had just finished his phone call and so was like
Dribble: "Whoa, what's with all the need for speed indoors?".
I suddenly stopped and stood still, thinking,
Karla: "Uh... Just gotta get moving".
Dribble: "Is that to make the magic elixir you mentioned to us earlier?".
Once I confirmed this, Dribble wanted to see me make it too and so joined me and Spitz in the kitchen.
Both Dribble and Spitz were left speechless when I had finished making the magic elixir and told them everything there was to know about the special solution.
Dribble: "You're not gonna drink that now are you?".
Karla: "No Dribble, otherwise your head office would actually be up in smoke. I'm going to store this in a small bottle and drink it if I get into trouble with any shadowy figures".
The last piece of advice Dribble and Spitz had offered was to go and try out some of Mona Pizza for lunch. Although Mona was in high school, I would apparently be meeting some other friendly faces like Joe the manager. Then after that, Dribble and Spitz waved me off as I walked off into the town to utilise my day, yelling out to reassure me that they would pass the word to 18-Volt.
