Chapter 1: Trouble Lurking In Diamond City
((NOTE: Thanks for your feedback :) This story has been edited to include line-specific dialogue))
Although I do live in a fortress, away from home, I'm just like any other typical 19 year old... In some ways yes and in some ways no. Like everybody else, I like to play games. I have two from the WarioWare series, Game and Wario and WarioWare Gold. I enjoyed playing those games overall but then there was also something about them that really bugged me. What on Earth was 5-Volt doing to 9-Volt and 18-Volt? And then another question popped into my mind... Was that really 5-Volt... Or was it someone else who seemed to be just claiming her identity? I was going to find out sooner or later.
Once I was done playing a bit of WarioWare Gold, I went back over to look at my dream journal and try to make a further analysis of what was in my dream last night. I was playing games but then this Grey 5-Volt thing was watching over me. I looked up at her and asked:
Karla: "What are you doing?"
but she only disappeared. Keep in mind that this was a dream though, and so Grey 5-Volt came back as one of the most horrid nightmares ever. A shroud of dark grey filled the skies, no more blue in sight at all. After a menacing growl, I see a green arm come out from the side and grab me, their arms now completely wrapped around me and squashing me up against a body. I look back and up to see 18-Volt pouting his lips as he is trembling and then he looks up into the sky and yells,
18-Volt: "Leave her alone! She ain't doing nothing, nothing!".
And then I look up and all I can do is silently tremble in fear myself.
Karla: "What could this dream mean? Then again, maybe I am thinking too much of it and it's nothing. You know, as 18-Volt said, she ain't doing nothing".
But apparently it was something, more than what I would ever think. Sindo came in, supported by his walking stick as his age was catching up to him.
Sindo: "Err, madame! You know how you told me 18-Volt likes you in those dreams? I've got somethin' to show yer".
I knew what was up next, it was a look into that crystal ball of mine.
Sindo: "That poor lad is in danger... And that's not even his own mum!".
Karla: "So she's afflicting 9-Volt and 18-Volt?".
Sindo: "In real time mah friend, in real time...".
I didn't even have to look at the crystal ball to know what was going on. I was shocked and I realised that if the crystal ball was showing this, then the world of Diamond City does in-fact exist in real life.
Sindo: "It's time for yer to finally meet that 18-Volt guy in person, and 9-Volt too, and stop that Penta-Volt from causin' any more doozies. That key to that door? Yer elements... All four of 'em".
I was now staring blankly at the crystal ball, hardly focusing anymore on the current scene that was playing.
Karla: "So I'm off to America?".
Sindo: "Yes indeed young chap, you're off to America to see yourself shine".
Karla: "Are you coming as well?"
Sindo: "Err heh heh, no, I'm not. My old bones can't take it anymore. Heck, more travellin' will jus' turn me into some sort of useless bag o' wood shavin's".
Then Sindo and I arrived into the main foyer, where I continued to ask the old wise guy some more questions on what I was to be facing.
Karla: "Is Selvian going to come?".
Sindo shook his head.
Sindo: "Err heh heh, nope, not him either. You see, we believe this is somethin' you can do on your own. Go there, and you'll be makin' so many wonderful new friends".
The fact that no one was going to be joining me, meant that there was now going to be some uncertainty of where I would make my temporary living quarters. Sindo could see in my eyes, that look of perplexing confusion.
Sindo: "Think you'll be sleepin' in the cold would ya? Oh! Ha ha ha ha... You jus' locate that Mr. Volt and you tell him that you need shelter. Trust me on this one, he'll give it to ya".
Then again, I wasn't too convinced that 18-Volt would be letting someone like me into his house; in dreams, we know each other so well but in real life, he knows absolutely nothing about me or that I even exist at all.
Sindo: "But? If things go wrong, then you'll need a way to communicate with us! Remember that ol' magic diary o' yours? Take it and use it"
Sindo: "Oh, by the way, what are yer goin' a wear? Make yourself stand out alright, look extra special".
As odd of a choice as it was, I decided that I was going to wear my summer uniform from back in high school, which has been sitting in the wardrobe for one and a half years but then I thought that I would really stand out with it on in Diamond City, only I would wear the dress and not the blazer, it was July currently and so the hot weather would already be blazing up in the northern hemisphere.
*** Two Days Later ***
On Tuesday the 17th of July 2018, at four o'clock in the morning, their local time, I had finally arrived at the Diamond City airport, no one familiar here to pick me up and be a host for what I was going to experience. It was confirmed, the first thing I had to do was look for 18-Volt and I was going to have to do this on my own, also keeping in mind that Grey 5-Volt could be lurking about. No matter how much sleep I had on the plane, it was odd to have arrived at a such a dark hour of the morning and I still felt tired from the jet-lag. Still, I had to collect my two suitcases from the conveyor that was coming from the plane. I had brought to burgundy coloured suitcases with me, one and a half for practical real life things and the other half of one for some magic stuff.
Finally, after about more than half an hour of waiting, the suitcases came and I went over to be checked by the arrivals security. Every time I went through a detector or spoke to an officer, I was scared because I was hoping that they would let me through despite the portion of my magical luggage. At one stage, the officer near the drug detector gave me a weird look and pulled me over, apparently there was an illegal substance in my suitcase. I thought to myself, "I've never gotten into such trouble in my life".
He then pulled me over further into an interview room, looking at me like he wasn't going to take any nonsense.
Karla: "What's up?"
Officer: "What's up ma'am? You don' ask me wassup, dat's what I should be askin' you! Now, explain to me why you've got dat blue liquid in ya suitcase:".
I wasn't scared anymore, I new just what to do.
Karla: "Well, indeed I can show you... If you let me take it out of my suitcase and mix it with the magically dehydrated salt I have in there as well".
Officer: "And dat's what I was gonna ask-chu next! Why the powder? Why do it?".
Karla: "It's not cannabis mate, neither is it ice. Co-operate and we should all be fine".
Time has passed and it has not been constructive, but what do you expect when these American officers think they're the real deal and don't want to co-operate with you, even if you truly aren't a criminal? After about another half an hour of arguing and me not backing down, the officer finally agreed to let me show him what the blue solution and the dehydrated salt was. He locked me in the room but did return, bringing a glass and a stirring stick with him.
Karla: "Right, now... Just watch and learn, that's all anyone has to do"
So I made the solution, picked it up, and drank it. Just like that, my throat dried out and eventually, I was breathing fire.
Karla: "It's drinkable, a magically concocted type of flammable petrol. Now you'd better get moving because I'd hate see you consumed in the flames you just saw".
The officer was lost for words and rather than referring me for some further sentencing, he was backing into a corner of the room with his hands up. But then I too had a change of heart and decided to tell the officer what was going, with the hopes that he would truly see that I'm no bad person at all.
Karla: "Have you ever noticed a strange vibe about Diamond City?"
Officer: "Ah... No ma'am?".
I could tell, just by looks, that the officer was creeped out by something other than just me.
Karla: "You see, I'm here to stop whatever's going on. If you want results, then you've got to tell me why you're feeling the way you are, because there is someone out there, causing your mind to become so uneasy".
Officer: "Uh, why so many wise words all of a sudden?".
Karla: "Oh oops, all the puns? It must be from the elixir".
Officer: "Well, would ya believe if I told you dat dere's always dis grey, shadowy woman, starin' at a bunch of kids? Of course when I've been on duty, I tried to stop her and ask her why she does that but den she vanishes and the police have never caught her".
I knew what he was going on about. I winked at him and reassured him.
Karla: "Well, that's about to change. You can keep me as a criminal but then she will still be desolating your streets, or you can decide to trust me on this and see her gone in a matter of weeks, if not less hopefully first".
I certainly didn't need all the time wasted, trying to deal with a police officer but then again, I was satisfied with the results. He even escorted me through the rest of security and gave me some words of wisdom for when I was to have an encounter with Grey 5-Volt. So then I could finally enter the main lounge at six o'clock in the morning and set myself onto a bench to get some more rest for a few hours, leaving a note beside me that said, "Please don't wake me, I'm a tourist that has just gotten off a flight. Of course, she has jet-lag", otherwise all the American locals in the airport would be prodding me, asking what my business was.
