Warden Chilfroy de Sauveterre
((By Nathaniel Hieber a youtube comenter)
Warden Chilfroy de Sauveterre was aware of the corruption that one found in the lands of vampire counts. However, it wasn't until he journeyed with Duke Bohemond into the land of Templehof that he witnessed such corruption first hand. Reanimating the dead to walk amongst the living, perverting the very idea of life with dark magic and malicious intent, people living less like humans and more along the lines of cattle. These lands needed to be purged of all vampiric corruption, and it is for that reason that Chilfroy's liege had declared a crusade against the vampire counts some time ago, with Templehof being the first foe to feel his blade. During the most recent fight, the paladin used his skills to hold the attention of whatever enemies he could. Crypt horrors were no easy foes with which to fight against, and more than once the warden was hit with blows that would have destroyed a regular soldier. Due to Iron Grove's regenerative effects and Chilfroy's experience with his weapon, he was able to hold his own and force enemies that could have laid waste to other parts of Duke Bohemond's army to remain where he was. To Chilfroy, that was why he was on the battlefield at all and why his liege had called him away from his post to fight in the field. This hadn't completely prevented many of the peasants Chilfroy had trained in the preceding days from dying at the hands of the vampire count's undead minions. From Chilfroy's point of view on the field, men were falling left and right all around him, and it was usually because they were outmatched by the enemy's calvary and monsters. Chilfroy knew that it was standard Bretonnian strategy to allow peasants to die in place of knights. As a warden, though, Chilfroy would have preferred that the battle had been fought in such a fashion to allow as little lose of life as possible. The only positive on the peasant's performance was that they had stood their ground until only a handful of people remained in their groups due to the training Chilfroy had given them. It wasn't as useful as the peasants actually living to fight another day, but the paladin knew that the only thing he could really do was to fight harder and fight harder so they might live. As Chilfroy struck down another skeletal warrior in front of him, he noticed that the rest of the undead force began to disintegrate. Looking around, the paladin saw the the same phenomenon was happening across the battlefield. Chilfroy would later learn that this was because the unholy magic wielder that had kept this army together had been slain, no doubt by Duke Bohemond's hand. There was a sense of relief from the warden as he realized that the fight was now over, but there was also a much more melancholic feeling within him. Looking back on the battle, Chilfroy felt that he could have fought harder to better protect the peasants around him. These battles were becoming very costly in terms of lives spent, and the warden was one of the only individuals who could fight with little fear of loosing his life. There was no excuse for him not to have fought as hard as he could to ensure the survival of others. Chilfroy reasoned that at least some of the peasants here could have been saved if their paladin had fought better and had been more skillful. After he had helped out as much as he could around the camp later tonight and met with those few peasants that remained, Chilfroy planned on spending some time training to improve his own skills. It was the least he could do to ensure the safety of those around him.
