The Legend of Madeline Du Bois, Servant of the Lady: Bloody Aftermath
((By Robert Claus A youtube Comenter))
Madeline rode across the battlefield, littered with the broken bodies of Dwarfs and Men. This had been a terrible fight, so many lives had been lost. The peasants had proven their worth and valor, and died in mass for it. Even the carrier's of Sir Pierre were slain, though Madeline was quick to secure the reliquae and have it taken back to her quarters. She would have to find pilgrims worthy of carrying his body into battle. In the distance, she could see Chilfroy surveying the carnage, as the Duke circled above. Administrative failings aside, the man truly was a champion of the Lady. Even her unicorn, Louis, appeared sedate. Usually he was filled with a righteous and noble fury, but today, even he had had his fill of honorable bloodshed. In the distance, he could hear some groaning. Curious, she had Louis lead her there. She beheld a Dwarfen warrior, somehow still alive even after being run down by the Grail Knights. "Mercy lass, all I ask for is a drink to ease my passing." The Dwarf told her. Madeline got off Louis, and walked over to him slowly, pulling out her wine pouch. She opened the pouch up and eased some of it into his mouth. Oddly enough, he didn't spit it out, though he did complain. "Augh, wine, couldn't you have brought some fine ale?" He asked her. "I drink wine, if I knew you were going to complain I would not have wasted it on you." She replied. "Don't mind me, we Dwarfs love to grumble, about anything really. I take it when I pass my ancestors will be grumbling at me for dying on the field of battle, without siring any heirs." He said with a forced grin on his face. "At least you have something to look forward too." "You're far more merciful than I thought you would be." He pointed out. A sad smile came across Madeline's face. "It may be the prerogative of the victor to be magnanimous, but for a damsel of the Lady, it is our duty. I see no reason to kick you when you are already down. You have lost, and you are dying, now is the time to show mercy." "Will you stay with me till the end?" He asked her. "I promise it won't be long." "If that is your wish." She replied. Madeline gently sat next to him, in a most ladylike manner, and waited for the end to come. And it came, far sooner than she had expected. They did not talk during this time, all he wanted was some company for his passing. And when the light of life left his eyes, she gently closed them. As she got up, she used her magic to have the earth swallow his body. Once it was down a suitable amount, she planted a seed above his grave. Utilizing her life magic, she forced the seed to sprout open and grow into a healthy young oak in a minute or two. This oak would serve as his grave marker. She did not know his name, his clan, or even who he was. All she knew was that she was there to comfort a dying man who did not want to pass away on his own. She was able to afford that little mercy.
