The Lady's Tears
((By DantezMaritu a youtube commenter))
Some men grow up to be honorable. Whether they are born into nobility and inevitably pursue the calling of the Lady, or as lowborns fight rank and file against corruption, they pursue the good and chivalrious in life. Some men do not, however. These men chose the easy way, robbing peasants and sometimes even daring to confiscate taxes meant for a good cause. Although pursued, these bandits somehow always managed to push through and disappear from the lawmen. One day, their leader, Grégoire Bureau, set his sight on their biggest target yet. A shrine of the Lady, filled to the brim with gifts, offerings and wealthy worshippers. Such a place would surely get them enough gold to survive through many winters; perhaps even landing themselves some estates in the Reich! As they entered the shrine and started butchering and looting, the men froze. The shrine around them disappeared; instead, they all saw the Lady. She was crying. Crying for them. For their dishonorable lives, for all the lives they took, all the suffering they caused, all for a bit of coin and weakness in their hearts. As the vision faded, the men were devastated. Such a sight would change all but the cruelest. After a moment of respite, Grégoire and his men travelled to Castle Bastogne. There, in front of Duke Bohemond himself, they confessed their crimes, laid down their weapons and told him of their vision. Grégoire offered his men and himself for battle, or to be slain on the spot. And after giving it a thought, Duke Bohemond agreed to accept them. The new regiment called themselves The Lady's Tears, so they would never forget the sight that turned their path towards honor. And their new hope is only falling in battle, hopefully redeeming themselves, or at least protecting their betters.
