Will You Dance With Me? - Romaine

**I saw The Theory of Everything when it first came out, and it is painfully underrated. We have our lovely Eddie Redmayne, aka Newt Scamander, as Stephen Hawking, Felicity Jones of Rogue One fame as Jane, and the iconic David Thewlis, aka REMUS JOHN LUPIN as Stephen's professor. That's all I have to say. It's amazing.

Warnings: None. I'll revise later.**

Tremaine followed Asher as they wound their way through the dance floor, his eyes widening as he took in the flashing lights and pounding music. He stayed bound to his team leader like a child to their mom at a family reunion.

He looked around. Everyone seemed so comfortable, happily swaying to the music, their faces aglow with smiles. And then there was him. This newcomer, skinny as a number 2 pencil, hands stuffed into his pockets. He didn't know anyone except for the young man that had, for whatever reason, took him in as his Wildcard.

"Just be natural," Ash had said. "They're gonna accept you like family. I wouldn't expect any less out of my Riders."

The duo moved aside to join a cluster of people. One of the strangers cheered on the DJ, watching him as he pressed a headphone to his ear and nodded his head to the thumping bass. "That's DJ Ren," Ash explained with a point over to the man, who was probably slightly older than Tremaine. "He's a Rider, too."

Tremaine got a good look at the person that had cheered. He had curly black hair that piled into a pouf atop his head, his eyes glittering, his perfect smile never faltering for a second.

"Who's that?" Tremaine caught himself asking.

"That's Roshan Ahmadi," Ash answered. "Our Shield. THE Shield. Nobody better than him. Also the number-one MarioKart player in the world."

That's what Tremaine was up against? He was about to ask Ash to introduce him, but his leader had since been lured to the dance floor by a shorter woman with frizzy brown hair. Tremaine sighed helplessly.

     "Hello."

Tremaine thought he'd go into cardiac arrest for a hot second. There he was, Roshan Ahmadi, grinning at him with a charming smile.

"H-hello," he stuttered, smiling back. What would he talk about? What did they have in common? He tried to think.

     "Architect," he finally said.

     "Shield," Roshan responded.

     "I know."

Awkward smile. Shit. Did he just make Roshan uncomfortable? Was that how this would be?

Hours later, Tremaine found himself sitting at a table, his eyes grazing the dancers who hadn't tired yet. His main focus was his conversation with Roshan.

Roshan was incredibly smart, as Tremaine found out. He had studied arts in school - French and Spanish. Tremaine had to steel his nerves before admitting that he, himself, couldn't afford to seek higher education. He had always wanted to study science. But his funds wouldn't allow it.

It seemed as though seconds had past, but at the same time, hours. Time seemed to blur as Tremaine got to know this intriguing teammate of his.

It was among one of these seconds or hours that Ash approached the pair, the woman from earlier close behind. "It's time we called it a night, don't you think? Big day tomorrow," he said.

Roshan was the first to nod and stand up, and Tremaine mimicked him. Collecting the rest of the Riders, they hopped a limo back to their dorm.

A few weeks later, word had gotten around about a Mid-Tournament "Party Under the Stars" that was to take place. It had taken Tremaine hours and hours of panic and nerves and practice, but he asked Roshan if he wanted to go with him. Together. As a couple.

Even more justifiable to panic over? Roshan said yes.

Of course, it wasn't out of the blue. They had continued to get to know each other until Tremaine felt a warm sense of comfort that he hadn't felt for as long as he could remember. So Tremaine was hooked.

The night arrived sooner than Tremaine would've liked. He hadn't even had time to mull over every possible bad thing that could happen! What was he going to do?

He got shaky at the knees when he saw Roshan that night. He looked handsome as ever.

The party took place - as the name would imply - under the stars. A bonfire crackled, sending sparks into the misty air. A dance floor spanned along the grass field. Speakers filled the air with music. Roshan and Tremaine stood just apart from the dancing swarm, drinks in their hands.

"Do you dance?" Roshan asked.

The question had barely gotten past Roshan's lips. "No," Tremaine said with a chuckle. "No. I mean, I'm very happy to watch, but I-I can't imagine doing it myself."

"I absolutely agree."

"Seriously, I don't dance."

A pause. A smile. "No dancing, then."

Later in the night, fireworks were set off. Brilliant sparks of red and yellow, lighting up the sky for miles as they soared high into the atmosphere.

Roshan would occasionally cheer in delight at the display. It was absolutely adorable, and Tremaine found it hard to take his eyes off of him.

Once the last pop of color had fizzled from the sky, a slow song filled the air. Tremaine was misfortunate enough to meet Roshan's eyes, but he was laughing softly. Tremaine relaxed. No dancing. And that was okay.

They moved away from the dance floor, and Roshan smiled when he noticed how starry the sky was. "Beautiful," he said, his eyes scanning the dark night.

Tremaine looked, too, at once trying to scrape together some interesting particle of trivia that had clung to him since high school.

"In the beginning," came the quiet voice of Roshan. "was the Heaven and the Earth." He was quoting a piece of literature. "And the Earth was without form. And the darkness...was upon face of the deep."

Tremaine locked eyes with Roshan in a gentle moment of realization. Who was this stranger that had finagled his way into Tremaine's world? Who was this intelligent man, smarter than Tremaine deserved to be near, with a voice more soothing than a lullaby, a voice that Tremaine never wanted to stop listening to?

Tremaine's fingers grasped Roshan's hand. They gazed at each other. Their noses could've touched.

"Will you dance with me?"

It took Tremaine a moment to realize that the words were his own.

Roshan smiled gently, holding Tremaine's hand. The other came to rest on Tremaine's shoulder, their eyes not breaking the connection. Tremaine's left hand found Roshan's waist, handling him with care.

In that moment, nothing could stop them. The world fell away, nothing more existing but the beautiful newcomer in the other's arms, their requited stories of love at first sight.

Their noses touched. Then their lips, in a moment of impulse. There, under the stars, the music forgotten, they kissed under the starlight.

Tremaine's heart soared. From the moment he set eyes on Roshan, this was all he had wanted, and he was getting it. He smiled gently against the other's lips, his left arm pulling the other closer. They spent the rest of the evening together, moving as one, in celebration of their newfound love.
