Prologue/Chapter Zero

Four individuals.  A war looms over the world. One so great that it threatens to tear apart society and humanity as they know it. The one piece of information that these four individuals do not know is that all of them are to become heroes. Heroes that the world may seldom see and may never remember. This is not important to our heroes as should be the case. These four individuals see something different in the world than what most see. They see hope for the world and they are willing to save it. These young people have no idea what is coming in their future.  Together, these four must save the world from something terrible. Save the world from itself.

Jack Kelly runs around New York City as fast as he can with a large trench coat draped over his shoulders to hide the pistol holstered to his hip. He has to admit that spy life is the best life. Infiltrating gangs for this underground agency has been Jack's job since his earlier years of being a Newsie.  He gets a new name and a different look every time he infiltrates a gang. So he won't get caught, Jack doesn't actually infiltrate gangs very often even though it is in his job description. Spy is his name and sneaking is his game.

Diana feels the pain from the most recent punch rippling across her face as she lands flat on her back. Antiope continues to deliver blows to her bruised and beaten body. Diana finally rises to her feet. She wants to be a great warrior but her mother has refused to allow it, until now. Diana trains harder than many of the other women do. She works alongside them and fights them off with just as much skill as if she has done this her entire life. Something cracks across her back and she falls, her long hair laying out in the grass next to her. There she lays, breathless and ready to take on the world. A princess never goes down without a fight.

Steve Trevor lands on his feet as he jumps off the small sand dune in Maine. His bare feet hit the ground and he nearly tumbles over the rocks and into the ocean. The delicate petite feet of a pretty girl land next to him. The young woman smiles up at him and Steve gently wraps an arm around her small delicate shoulders. Both stare out at the ocean, watching the peaceful swells as they rise and fall. If only things could stay like this forever. Steve thought it was going to until the young woman playfully shoves him into the ocean. He shouts and falls into the gentle waves. The young woman laughs and Steve smiles as he surfaces. He could pay countless dollars to hear that laugh for the rest of his life. Nothing in the world can keep him away from her. Steve would be more than a boyfriend or husband could ever be for her, he would always be her big brother.

Katherine looks around twice just as her father is hurrying out to his carriage. A huge story is about to break. Why couldn't it have happened sooner? Katherine was trying to find some way to get a reporting job and she was struggling. Ever since the Newsies strike, her luck had dried up. Everyone thought that she was about to become a wonderful reporter. That's what everyone thought, but that's not what happened.  Katherine's boss had pulled her out of the social papers only to give her no new stories whatsoever. Her supervisor, Bryan Denton, had told her that he would give her his next big assignment that was in the city. To make matters worse, the Newsie that Katherine had befriended back when the Newsie strike was going on had disappeared. Katherine hadn't heard from him or seen him since then. She thought they had something special. Katherine wouldn't have admitted it to anybody, but she felt different about the Newsie. Almost safe. It took a lot for Katherine to trust a man, having so many just pursue her only for the riches and not for genuine love. No, Katherine needed someone like that Newsie. She remembered his name too,  Jack Kelly, the one and only boy who held Katherine's heart. And now, he was gone. Maybe she should look to Nellie Bly. Maybe it was time to become an investigative reporter.

He sits with his feet propped up on the desk, his dress shoes shining in the faint light. Turning to his assistant, he smiles and hands her something. She looks at it and nods. It will undo the world very soon. When she looks up, the mastermind stops her with a finger in the air,

"Not yet. The time has not come. But it will come soon and the world will be ours."

"When?" the young woman asks nervously, "I really don't think we have time to wait."

"I thought you were to find the solution hidden away in that cave," her boss replies, pulling his pocket watch out of his blazer and watching it swing back and forth.

"Yes but..I haven't been able to find it yet," she says softly, a thick accent seeping through her speech.

"You disappoint me, my dear. You do realize the consequences of this, don't you?" he asks.

"I haven't been able to locate the map that supposedly shows the way. How am I supposed to locate the artifact?" she asks incredulously. Her boss wipes his face pettily with a small handkerchief he keeps in his blazer pocket.

"You have to find it. It's the key to winning the world," he says eerily.

A/N: Well..here we go. This is gonna be a Newsies x Wonder Woman Crossover with kind of a Lara Croft/Sherlock Holmes kind of vibe. So, I hope it works. I think it'll be a fun read once it gets going. The characters from Newsies and Wonder Woman will certainly be more than just vehicles for the story. The stories from their fandoms will play into it but I thought kind of a Lara Croft/Sherlock Holmes vibe would add some mystery and some globetrotting into the mix which just seems kinda fun to try on these characters.

Anyways, I know it's super short but I kinda wanted to gradually introduce the story and kinda get everyone's feet wet. I'll hopefully do this one in chunks too. Maybe...we'll see. I think I'll have time to do it..it's just about finding the motivation. I'm excited for this book though. I think it'll be fun.

What did you guys think? Is this going to be an interesting idea? I think having it be kinda like a Lara Croft story with a bit of a mystery and a war going on will kind of help things out. There's going to be a fair amount of traveling to find something, a mystery to solve who's behind the eventual takeover of the world, and then the war ups the stakes because of how many people are dying and there's all these secrets operations going to try and solve this case and Diana's trying to rescue humanity from itself and so on.

I hope you guys enjoy this book. Thanks for commenting, voting, reading or doing whatever it is you do. It means a lot to me.
