Chapter 9: Two Sides, One Family
Long after the final bell of the school day rang, two teenagers roamed the long silent hallways, anxiously waiting for 4:50 PM. Mark looked at his watch nearly every 3 minutes, counting down each second. His nerves were getting to his mind like usual, asking Luke hundreds of questions about the surprise attack.
"Luke, what's the plan again?"
"Luke, what do we do if a teacher asks why we're here so late?"
"Luke, we're not going to die, right? Right?"
"Luke, it's 2:30 PM. We only have two hours and 20 minutes to get ready. That's not enough time for me!"
Luke started to get annoyed after the first five questions, he replied to every question with a groan. Thankfully, all of the teachers and staff had to meet in the conference room to discuss how they were going to improve the school's academies for this year. In reality, it was a meeting where every worker sat around a round table and watched the principal give a speech that no one listened to.
To pass the time, the two paced back and forth in front of the walls filled with lockers. For fun, Luke decided to pick the locks and see what was inside. The human told his friend to stop and focus on the task at hand. The demon ignored him and pulled out school supplies and useless junk out of the lockers. Luke began to become amused in rummaging through the worthless materials and found a hand full of interesting objects. His favorite thing that he found was a flask of whiskey hiding in a sweater's pocket.
"After we kill those sons of bitches, we can celebrate!" Luke clutched the flask, showing Mark, who was still uninterested in his antics.
"I'll just take this." Mark disregarded Luke's desire to drink, instead collected the 'Magic: The Gathering' cards from the pile that Luke declared as the "Nerd Shit" pile.
Mark glanced at his watch once more as he discovered that the time was finally 4:50 PM. The demon and human were now about to meet Heaven's army leader and warrior. They knew that they must be prepared for their surprise attack. If not, it would cost them their lives.
*******************************************
The door opened with a creaking sound to the empty library. Endless rows of books and textbooks stood tall, casting dark shadows on the ground as the bright sun set on the horizon shined, peeking through the windows. The eerie absence of noise caused Mark's hands to shake while handing a sharp dagger. Neither of the two spoke, they searched the rows of novels for the historical documents section.
At every sign they looked at, their hearts stopped for a beat. It had been just a few minutes since they entered but felt as if those minutes were years. Lucifer seemed tense as his eyes quickly read every sign and his breathing became heavy.
One of the rows in the hidden corners of the library was a section that read "Historical Documents". Mark and Lucifer sneaked behind the front of the bookshelf. The pair stared deeply into each other's eyes, taking one last final breathe before thrusting himself into battle.
"Breathe in." Mark told himself. "Breathe out."
They ran into the corridor of historical documents and were greeted by the cold ends of two revolver guns. The girl closest to the two teenagers had long silky blonde hair and light blue eyes. Her whole body was shaking and visibly nervous. There was a certain deja vu to her that Mark was unsure about. Behind the blonde girl was her companion. From the second, Mark laid his eyes on her, he knew who she was.
"Amy?"
"Mark?"
The siblings dropped their weapons and watched each other in awe. They couldn't believe that the person they planned to fight was their sibling. Mark and Amy would always disagree and bicker about every topic but they never were physical with each other. Their eyes blinked, hoping that magically another person would appear instead of the family member they grew up with.
Lucifer and the blonde girl watched as their warrior abandoned their mission, they also remembered each other too. The blonde girl's eyes widened out of shock.
"Luke?"
"Angelica?"
All four of them, laid down their arms, unable to believe the situation they were all in. The group was silent until Angelica spoke, "I knew there was something suspicious about you when we met at the party. I should have never been such a fool as to be attracted to a man like you."
"The daughter of God, Angel, was attracted to me?" All of Luke's worries and troubles disappeared, attempting to turn the conversation into smooth talk.
"Stand back, son of Satan! I am prepared to shoot you at all costs, Lucifer!" Angelica held up the gun, still shaking out of terror. She was unsure what to do but she knew that she needed to protect herself and her warrior, Amy. Under the angel's breathe, she was mumbling a prayer.
The siblings panicked, begging Angelica to lower down the gun so they could all talk. Luke was as calm as ever, laughing away the seriousness of the event. "Shoot me." He said to her. "Shoot me, get it all over with. Isn't that what you want?" Luke put his temple to the end of the gun. "Pull the tigger, Angelica." The demon taunted her, knowing well that putting more stress on Angelica would break her.
The angel began to tense up, hearing the screams of the warriors begging her to stop and Luke's taunts did not help.
"I....I cannot. Please forgive me, Father." Angelica gasped in-between breathes.
"I knew it." Luke's signature smirk appeared up his face
"How about we all calm down?" Mark told the group in the calmest voice he would muster.
"Yeah, I mean, sometimes I do want to punch him a few times because he can be a stick in my ass. But, that doesn't mean I want to kill him!" Amy yelled out, partially insulting her brother.
"There must be something we can do about all of this." The dirty blonde exclaimed.
"No!" Screamed the demon and angel in unison.
Angelica began to rant, "I appreciate and admire your desire for peace, human, but this war must happen! Heaven will be victorious in this battle-"
"Over my dead body will Heaven win the war! Hell will beat your little 'pure' weak asses any day!" Luke interrupted, his red eyes filled with fury.
The two began to argue and shouted at each other. Their loud voices rang through the library, the world seemed to rumble at their bickering. While Mark tried to be the peacemaker of the situation, Amy could care less.
"Isn't the whole reason you got us as your warriors is because your armies were shit and no one could beat the other army?" Amy exclaimed, the other three stared at her in silence. "I mean, that's what Angelica told me when we met." She pointed over to the shorter girl to her left.
Everyone's eyes gazed at the blonde girl. Angelica stood in fear again, unable to reply. She could only shutter out, "Well.." and "Um..".
"How did you two meet?" Mark asked his sister, who was on her phone typing.
She continued to text and only gave him half of her attention, "She came to cheer tryouts and tried to audition. She was so horrible. This girl could barely touch her toes, let alone do a split. Hold up, I think I have a video of it saved on my Snapchat memories."
After two seconds on her phone, Amy turned her phone screen around to show the group. She pressed the play button on the video, it showed Angelica in an echoey gymnasium attempting to do a split on the floor. Her face reflected how much pain she was in and struggled to impress Amy. In the end, Amy and some other girls could be heard laughing in the background as Angelica ran out to avoid any more humiliation.
The angel's cheeks blush pink out of embarrassment while watching herself fail. Mark felt bad for Angelica, wishing that his sister and her friends wouldn't be so cruel to her. Luke and Amy laughed with each other, pointing out jokes and replaying the video over and over again, having a great time enjoying Angelica's discomfort.
"I beg of you, may you please stop the video?" Angelica desperately spoke out to the taller brunette.
Amy chuckled one last time before stopping the video, "After that, my cheer coach told me to go after her to make sure she was alright. I found her in the locker room, that's when she told me that I was chosen by the Lord for Heaven's Army. I was like, 'That's great. Lord bless everyone. Kumbaya.' and she somehow bought it and thought I was sinless."
"She sounded very believable!" The angel defended herself as best as she could.
"It was so funny to see her face when I told her that I drink, vape, party, and have sex." Amy grinned over to Angelica, who was ready to freak out due to all the 'sins' Amy has committed.
"Well, if that's true about your armies, then I think we should make a compromise between all four of us." Mark took charge of the situation and spoke out to the group. "We can all discuss about this peacefully, right?" He glanced over to Luke and Angelica, the both of them finally listened to him instead of fighting with each other.
"I am more than willing to discuss peace in any situation. I must thank you for this...um." Angelica was searching for a name to call the human male.
"Mark. My name's Mark." The dirty blonde said to the angel.
"Thank you deeply, Mark." Angelica smiled wholeheartedly.
Luke agreed with his friend, "Fine. I'm up for it."
Angelica turned to the trio next to her, "Come, let us go somewhere more fitting of such a conversation."
"Can we go to your mansion? It has a good wifi and it's near the beach. I really want get a tan." Amy pocketed her phone away and her eyes lit up with she said the word, 'mansion'.
The demon and his warrior were in shock. Mark knew how much those mansions near the water cost, they were nearly hundreds of thousands in dollars. Those houses could even be millions if built in the rich, fancy neighborhoods.
"I knew that Heaven had a lot of money but I didn't know God was loaded!" Luke voiced, hoping to see what an angel's home looked and what was inside.
"Perfect idea, Amy! I will be glad to have all of you at my house to talk about the matters of peace." The angel was ecstatic at the topic of having peace for the war.
Angelica lead the group out of the library into the parking lot. She looked all over for her car until they reached the end, where a large oak tree stood, guarding over multiple of cars. The angel pulled out the car keys from her dress pocket and pressed the unlock button.
A beautiful white BMW beeped, there was no spot of dirt or filth anywhere on it. The paint job on the car seemed brand new and it sprinkled like a diamond in the sunlight. The metal rims on the tires looked untouched and perfect like the rest of the vehicle.
"Shotgun!"
Luke and Amy cheered and raced to see who could get to the car first. The demon opened the passenger side door and slammed it behind him. He stuck his tongue out to Amy, who was pounding on the window, yelling at him to let her in.
"For the devil, you're even more of a dickhead than I thought!"
"I'm glad to be better than your expectations, bitch!"
Luke flipped a middle finger to Amy, making her more pissed than before.
While the two were being childish and called each other every name in the book. Angelica gave Mark the car keys, "You can drive, correct?". Mark nodded as his reply to her.
"Wonderful, can you please drive? I do not know how to drive a vehicle and whenever I allow Amy to, she gets lost easily and passes red lights sometimes." She got flashbacks to all the moments, Amy drove in her car and wished to forget it even happened.
"Of course. I promise to be careful, you have a really nice car after all. I don't want to wreck it." Mark awkwardly chuckled, trying to hide the fact that he was going to drive a brand new car that was worth more than his life.
Angelica thanked Mark before heading into the back of the car, sitting next to Amy. Mark got into the car and started up the engine.
"Everyone has their seat belts on?"
"Yes."
With that, Mark drove off and listened to Angelica's instructions carefully. This was difficult to do while Luke and Amy turned on the radio's volume as high as it could go, putting on rowdy rap music. Angelica's quiet voice could scream so loudly but the music blocked it out. The two troublemakers sang along to lyrics horribly, skipping words they didn't know only to yell out the chorus. Angelica prayed for every curse words the two shouted out. Though, Mark prayed for the car ride to be over soon.
