Chapter 2 - The Warriors

A/N: I think I may have gotten the whole notification problem fixed, but I'm really not sure. It doesn't seem like it. Oh well.
I personally think this is a crappy chapter. But I'm just too much of a perfectionist, so it's probably fine lol.

Within less than an hour, the Kingdom of Minecraftia was a mess. Visibility was low as smoke and dust filled the air. Clouds sprung up towards the sky in every territory brought by fire from cannons on all sides. No one stopped to evaluate the situation or why any of this was even happening. All they wanted to do was defend their territories and fight. If it wasn't for all the pent-up anger and hatred towards opposing territories, no one would have returned fire. This is what they've been waiting for.

Two young Warriors walked the halls of King's Knight's Headquarters shortly after things began to calm down outside. By this time, it was past midnight, and they were told the commander of Warrior territory officially declared war on everyone else. They had also found out that they had managed to wipe out at least a third of the Creator population, but even with a third gone they still easily outnumbered the Warriors.

One of the Warriors looked up at her tall friend and his perpetually emotionless face. "Hey, Romulus," she said, poking his arm.

Still facing forward and his expression remaining unchanging, he responded with a short, low, "Yes, Athena?"

"You're going to become a King's Knight, right?" she asked him.

"Of course. And then I will take my father's place as the leader of the King's Knights," he replied.

Athena nodded, hesitating with her next question. She looked around them as they walked, checking to see if anyone was around. Just to be safe, she dropped her voice to a whisper. "Have you ever thought about how the King never does anything? He just sits in his castle." She doesn't question the King often, in fact, this is only the second time she's done it (the first being when she was younger and didn't know any better). Even though everyone who's a Warrior remains extremely loyal to the King, there's still a law within their territory that says one cannot speak of the King negatively, not even question him a little bit aloud. Certainly you wouldn't do this in the King's Knight's Headquarters, where the most loyal Warriors could be found, but Athena figured most of the Knights were still either out finishing up in other territories or returning home. She also knew that she could trust her best friend, who had pledged his loyalty to her when they were younger and has stood by her ever since.

"Athena, you should not disrespect thing King like that, especially in a place like this," he whispered back, looking at her. "You could get in big trouble."

Glad that he didn't start to lecture her, Athena nodded again, saying, "Right. I was just wondering. It doesn't matter, I guess." She shrugged, and they continued on their way through the building to find their dads to tell them that they were back and hadn't been caught in any of the pandemonium occurring outside.

"Hey, Dad. Hey, Apollo," Athena greeted when they found their dads in one of the rooms, organizing their weapons and armor. "We're alive!" She waved her sword in the air, and then threw it onto their ordered pile of weapons.

"Good. Romulus, did she get you two into any trouble?" said her father with a smirk.

"Surprisingly, no," Romulus replied, his expression still serious. He earned a light smack on his arm from Athena.

"Alright, well, Eros and I will see you two back at home," Apollo finally said after the two teens told them about everything they did, including how they met two Creators in the forest. "And don't go hunting for mobs or anything else like that unless we say you can. Now that we've started a war, we need everyone aged fourteen and up training and fighting starting tomorrow. I'd suggest you two get some sleep once you get home."

Athena and Romulus both nodded. "Is there anything else we should do before we go?" asked Romulus before they exited the room.

"You could check on the Griefer and the Troll some of the other Knights captured. Make sure they're not trying to escape. We were told they're a couple of the sneakiest and cleverest people from their territories, and that we could use them in this war. And remember that you're still grounded, Athena, so go straight home after that," Eros told them, getting a quick glare from Apollo, who obviously just wanted them to go home and sleep so they could get up early tomorrow.

"Okay!" Athena exclaimed, tossing the rest of her armor and weapons with the rest, followed by Romulus doing the same.

The prison was uncomfortably hot and dry. It seemed completely empty, and the only sounds that could be heard were the two Warriors' own footsteps on the iron floor. At the end of the top floor were the two prisoners in separate cells across from each other. The Warriors were surprised to find two teenagers rather than anyone older and more experienced. And with them being from separate territories, it was weird to find that they were twins.

"Oh my god, what now?" said the prisoner on the left as Athena and Romulus reached their cells. "Do they really not trust us to stay in--" He stopped when he got a good look at Athena, and immediately stood from his sitting position against the wall and went up to the front of the cell. "Hey there, I'm Pyro Holt; sixteen years old, Griefer, master of explosives, if you know what I mean. I can speak Japanese, which is pretty awesome, and I'm a Scorpio, if that's of any importance to you, and--" The Griefer shut up when Romulus stepped in front of Athena, glaring at him.

Athena rolled her eyes, thinking that there must've been some kind of mistake, because there was no way these two were the best their territories had to offer. "I'd shut up if I were you. You do realize you're a prisoner within Warrior territory, right? Anyway, we'll be going now. We were just sent to make sure you two aren't being stupid enough to try to escape." She began to walk away with Romulus, who kept his gaze over his shoulder and on the prisoners until they reached the end of the corridor.

"Why do you have to be so protective?!" she asked him, annoyed, as they walked down the stairwell. "You're worse than my dad. You're even worse than your dad!"

"Don't trust Griefers or Trolls, no matter how idiotic they may seem. And, Athena, I am sworn to--"

She cut him off, raising her voice. "Sworn to protect me, blah, blah, blah. I know! Why? I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself! We're not kids anymore! Can't you go one day without acting like my personal bodyguard?" He didn't say anything to reply, so she just continued to complain. This went on until they got home eight minutes later, and even then she didn't stop.

Finally, Romulus found the chance to speak. "Okay, I'll do what you want."

Athena smiled, proud of herself for actually convincing him. "Alright, so how about you go one week without being all protective and stuff over me. Just be my friend for once. And if I get in trouble, don't come in to save me; just let me deal with it on my own unless I actually ask for help. Got it?" With a slight hesitation, he agreed with a small nod.

Romulus was still unsure about this whole thing. He's always been like an older brother to Athena who'd risk his own life for her, especially since both of their mothers died. They had gone to help fight off an unusually large horde of mobs who had breached their walls, but never came back. At that time, their fathers weren't ready to raise a couple of four-year-olds alone. Since the two men's wives were always the ones looking after their children, being fathers seemed harder than their other job as King's Knights. So, being best friends since they themselves were kids, they decided they could help each other raise their kids. Romulus didn't want to lose his best friend as well as his mother, so he decided to act as a King's Knight for Athena. He figured it could also be great practice for when he becomes a real King's Knight.

Athena and Romulus finally decided to get to bed after each having a quick snack. Neither of them realized that their dads never came home that night until the next morning.
