30 - The finale
A rupture of moonstone-yellow light appeared in the carnal-black sky. Brazier-red blood sprayed from the Angels' wounds. They were clobbering and clubbing against their shield wall under a sunless sky. A windstorm of fire arrows was skirling and sizzling through the bitumen-black sky. Angels and blood drinkers were blubbering and choking as the battleground became slimy with intestines. Their weapons were clanging and clangorous under the seething, spite-filled sky. Their bones were fracturing and rupturing as a throng of blood drinkers hurtled into the Angels. The ground was burnished with entrails and a sickly odor rose up from it.
A fountain of blood soaked Julian's face. It tasted vinegary. Julian's pushed his sword from the blood drinkers chest and the blood drinker fell on to the ground and vanished. Julian jumped onto a blood drinker who was twisting Paulo's head and Julian slashed the blood drinker's head. Parisa fired the blood drinker and it vanished into the smoke of the fire.
Julian gave a hand to Paulo and supported him to stand up.
"Are you guys alright?" Parisa asked, walking toward Julian and Paulo.
"We are alright," Julian said. "Paulo, it's too dangerous to battle solo. Team up with Parisa."
"I'll team up with you," Paulo said, curiosity in his voice.
"I have to find Cael, he's nowhere to be seen." Julian said and placed his hand on Paulo's face. "I have to tell you something. I'll tell it after all this nonsense."
"I'll be waiting, brother." Paulo said.
Paulo had no idea how he became able to forgive Julian and accept him as family, But for his surprise he did. The dark black eyes of Julian felt so comfortable for him.
"We have to do a lot as brothers." Julian said and walked away from Paulo and Parisa.
"Follow me, Paulo." Parisa said and Paulo followed Parisa.
"Is this the finale?" Paulo asked from the Parisa.
"Yes, Paulo. This is the end of the war of hearts." She said.
Aiden's wolf head bumped Basilia's hand and she started slightly, and then placed her hand on his head.
Aiden, his large amber eyes worried, looked up and she met his gaze shortly then looked at her nose where it rested on her knee.
One of the other wolves lets out a rumbling growl and Aiden looked over at the light gray and cream wolf with raised ears and half raised hackles.
"Is that someone from your pack?" Basilia asked.
Aiden lets out a rich, low, warning growl, his lips pulling back to show large, dagger like fangs two inches in length and as white as ivory. Larger than the leading wolf of the pack, Ivan, the betrayer.
Ivan turns his ominous golden gaze on Aiden, his snarl pulling his lips away from his razor-sharp canines again as his ears flatten.
"What is he doing here?" Basilia asked, twirling her fingers creating air waves around them.
"Stop!" Alicia yelled as Aiden rose and stood with his back to Alicia, watching the other wolf with ears perked forward and Aiden's lips curled back.
Alicia whines from where she was, her fist tightly holding a sword and a worried look in her gold eyes as she watched the beginnings of a fight between a true alpha and a betrayer who serves for Roop.
"Who the hell is he?" Basilia asked from Alicia.
"It's Ivan, he's seduced by Roop." Alicia said as she ran toward them.
Ivan walked across from Aiden and his hackle rise at the same time, his tail quivering and bristled. The battle ground was silent for a short instant before he lets out a loud snarl and takes a slow, threatening, step forward, lunging for Basilia without warning.
Aiden leaped into him, making him fall back against his mate and shifting his attentions to Aiden.
He lunges for Aiden's throat and Aiden bolted away with Ivan in hot pursuit, leading him away from the mates; jumping onto a large plywood tree and turning to face Aiden's pursuer with his body crouched low and his teeth bared in a snarl; like a formable shadow with gold eyes.
Before Alicia could reach them, a blood drinker threw a rock at Aiden and Aiden fell on the war ground. Ivan took advantage of this and jumped onto this but before he could Alicia jumped onto the Aiden and covered him. Ivan fell on to Alicia and he bit Alicia's neck.
"No!" Basilia screamed and created an air sword and cut off Ivan's head and his head fell on to the blood soaked ground.
Their swords gleamed in the cool moon light. Julian knew that only one would walk away from this. His opponent's sword was stained with blood. They were the blood of his fellow angels. At first Julian failed to believe his eyes which witnessed Cael Angelo Fire murdering angels and now here he is fighting against Julian. Julian shuffled to the side and awaited in attack, and possibly, inevitable death.
"Why are you doing this?" Julian asked, trying to find the color of Cael's eyes to make sure whether he was seduced by Roop but nope they were Fire red.
Cael charged with a mighty cry. Julian dodged to the side with one fluid move. Cael swiveled in his direction. His menacing eyes were blazing red and his dark hood made the rest of his features indistinguishable. Cael thrust his sword forward, only to be met by Julian's sword. Both swords met in the air with a resounding 'clang'.
"Do you love my Ever?" Cael asked, speaking for the first time in the battle.
Julian stared at Cael in horror. Cael had the opportunity to use Julian's loss of concentration to destroy him but instead he spoke again. "Your love is her destruction."
Julian's sword fell on to the ground. "What do you mean?"
"You love her and she loves you. God did everything because he didn't wanted history to repeat. He didn't want to see his children getting destroyed because of love." Cael smirked and stepped closer to Julian. "I am Roop. I wasn't sent here to punish the Queen. I wasn't sent here to destroy Angelic. I was sent to Angelic to destroy you so that another child of God won't end up being a murderer." Cael said.
"What do you mean?" Julian mumbled, his eyes about to water.
"If you didn't fell in love with Ever, if Ever didn't love you back, Angelic would have been a happy peaceful land. I am so sorry Julian Roosevelt. Love is destruction and Roosevelts aren't born for love." Cael said and pushed his sword into Julian's stomach.
A sudden gush of pain jolted throughout Julian's body. His stomach ached, his arms lost tension and his legs began to weaken. "Ever." He murmured as he dropped to the ground. His world. The world he filled with love, hopes and happiness collapsed. As his world of love turned dark he saw his beautiful Ever.
Ever landed on the ground, staring at Julian was laying on the ground dead. She sucked at the air like it had suddenly become thick and was now almost too difficult to draw in. Ever ran toward Julian. She raised the sword of life and placed the point of the sword of Cael's forehead and his forehead began to bleed. As the blood drops flowed down through his forehead, he fell on his knees and his chest rose up and he struggled for air as dark black sparks radiated from his body into the sunless sky.
Ever fell on her knees , hoisted his body to her lap and stroked his dark black hair. Her eyes watered with tears.
The blood drinkers gained consciousness. They stopped battling with the angels and tried to remind what really happened to them. Everyone gathered around each other, trying to settle the arosing conflict among the blood drinkers. Joseph ran to his dead lover. Basilia and Aiden were weeping kneeles on the ground next to Alicia. Alexander was late when he found his sister, she was dead and Joseph had his arms around her, crying.
Ever never got to tell Julian she loved him one last time. She didn't get to hold him close, before he slipped away. She never even got to look into his loving, beautiful face, which always brought her so much happiness, before he died.
It happened quickly and quietly while Ever was away, destroying some unimportant blood drinkers. He had always been there for her with a smile shining in his bright black eyes; and now he was gone. Forever. Ever's anger slowly dissolved to sadness as tears embraced her eyes. Waves of pain washed over her, and her body convulsed to meet each one. He was gone, his light consumed by death's empty darkness. All she had left of her was the fading image in her mind.
Across them was Cael. He was laid on the ground. Although he was unconscious, she knew he was alive. She placed her other hand on his chest and cried. Tears streamed down her face.
The battle ground became a symmetry of loved ones.
