WARS OF THE 20TH CENTURY: LETTER FROM THE FRONT
(Father's letter from "The Letter")
I don't know if it'll arrive,
but this soldier from afar
writes you from the front line
so you'll know where I am,
fighting for you
and our land.
I never knew why this time
has to be so violent,
why we had to make war,
when I never wanted to climb
into this chaos, into this uproar.
But for freedom,
against the cruel,
I do everything—
may that be clear to you.
This is written from the front,
so far away,
a thousand miles from my home,
though the situation
is turning grim every day.
Blood everywhere,
I don't know what's there—
I feel dizzy and pained,
unable to break through the chain.
They call me to fight,
only to tell you,
I don't wish this on you,
my child.
